Re: Bangalore - Vijayawada - Vizag - Bhubaneswar : Route Queries

If you are starting at 5 AM from Bangalore, you can reach Rajahmurdy by around 7PM. Better to go till Rajahmurdy so second day is not very hectic. We recently stayed in Manjeera Sarovar in Rajahmurdy and it was good.

What would be a better place to layover between the two ? Open to accommodation suggestions in both Vijayawada and Rajahmundry.

Came across video in youtube showing work has started on the renigunta-naidupeta section. Finally the entire Bangalore-Bhubaneswar-Kolkata is either 4/6 lane under construction

Re: Bangalore - Vijayawada - Vizag - Bhubaneswar : Route Queries

HI ,
I drove in this route on Jan-14.
Here is my Update.

Started from my home @whitefield at 5:10 Am in the morning and drove for 15 hours straight with Bio Breaks only. Reached Vizag at 9:10PM.
Reached Rajamundry around 5:30 so decided to drive further to Vizag. Had our lunch inside the car itself. Me and my better half decided to switch driving roles while the other one was having lunch.

Stayed in a hotel (newly constructed) in Vizag . It is cheap ,price for a night only 1500 bucks.
This hotel is only for lodging and there is no restaurant. you have to rely on Zomato to get your food.

The advantage you get here is that it is right next to the highway, almost at the end of the city.

Hotel name The 36 Inn

The road from SriKalahasti to Naidupeta is not that good. Could be because of the floods last year.

But a big improvement i saw was the road from Vijaywada to Rajamundry. 4 laning is almost complete and you can maintain decent speed. Last time when i drove just after the first lockdown, this road was in a very bad shape with lots of crater size potholes.

I have captured the entire drive in my dashcam. Will soon upload it to youtube.

Next day I drove from Vizag to Bhubaneswar and completed the journey in 7 hours.
Had a halt in Gopalpur dhaba and chilika dhaba. To get authentic dhaba taste you must stop in either of this place.

There is no checking either in AP Border or Odisha border.
3. Any updates on the Road Condition between Vijayawada and Rajahmundry?
It is good. You can maintain good speed.

not that I recollect.

Can't say anything untill Vizag. But There is a good dhaba in Berhampur , it is called Gopalpur highway dhaba.

Kindly revert ASAP !!! Thanks in advance.

Re: Bangalore - Vijayawada - Vizag - Bhubaneswar : Route Queries

For those traveling via Vizag, it is better to take the original highway that goes through the city instead of the bypass from Anakapalli. My friend was misguided by Google early today, and ended up taking the bypass. Though it is 70% complete , there are some terrible areas where they were thinking of abandoning their trip. Luckily, when the asked a passer-by, they were told that the horrendous stretch is only for a couple of kms more.

They were in a Creta, so imagine a low-slung sedan or hatch!!

In retrospect, they realized that they should have taken the city route, as it was around 6 am, and there would have hardly been any traffic.

Re: Bangalore - Vijayawada - Vizag - Bhubaneswar : Route Queries

Hi,

I have recently shifted from Kochi to Bhubaneswar and will be taking my car from Thrissur to Bhubaneswar in 2 days. I will be accompanied by my family driver( after too much persuasion from my parents and in-laws)
I've driven a lot between Thrissur -Bangalore -Hyderabad. This route is totalluy new to me

I plan to travel as per the below schedule

Day 1 : Thrissur to Nellore (730kms approx)
start from Thrissur at 05:00Am and reach Nellore by nightfall hopefully
Day 2 : Nellore to Vizag (625kms approx)
start by 05-05:30am and reach Vizag by 06-07pm
Day 3 : Vizag to Bhubaneswar
start by around 11:00am and reach Bhubaneswar by 07:00pm hopefully

My queries are:

1. Should i take chittur-Tirupathi or chittur-puttur-renigunta route
2. Any decent known hotel to spend the night at Nellore, or should i push the
drive further for a good stay
3. I usually fill diesel from Reliance outlets, are those ones one this route
reliable enough
4. I should be sticking on Nh-16 whatsoever then Map shows right ?
5. Anything i should be aware of while driving a KL registered vehicle

Thanks in advance

Re: Bangalore - Vijayawada - Vizag - Bhubaneswar : Route Queries

Drove from Bhubaneswar to Bangalore over the weekend. Nothing specific to report, roads were good in most parts, average in some. Took the Anakapelle bypass for Vizag and Godavari 4th bridge for Rajahmundry.

Day 1:
Bhubaneswar to Vijayawada (795 kms): 13 hrs 10 mins (including driving time of 12 hrs 25 mins)

Vijayawada to Bangalore (669 kms): 10 hrs 15 mins (including driving time of 9hrs 39 mins)

Few key points:

- Most of the flyover work is complete on the route and driving is back to being a pleasure.

- While coming from Bhubaneswar, at Anandpuran, the road bifurcates towards Vizag city abruptly. The main road continues towards Anakapelle bypass while a narrow branch cuts off towards Vizag. One has to be careful not to miss it if you intend to enter Vizag.

- The approach road to the Godavari 4th bridge has been patched up, although shoddily. 10kms of even roads before one ends up at the bridge. No risk for low slung sedans, even an E Class could make it easily.

- The Kovvur toll plaza continues to have long pile-ups although they have started using fastags. We waited a good 20 mins in the queue to cross this toll.
Do I regret it? No. After investing 20 mins, the next 40 kms is pure bliss.

- Naidupeta to Reniguta remains bad and unsafe. Let me elaborate. Most of this stretch is broken roads with a few deep potholes too. The truckers and buses avoid the bad stretches and hence, keep driving on the wrong side of the road or even criss-crossing.

I took this route in late Nov 2021 while going to Bhubaneswar and again yesterday, on the return leg. I was bypassing Vizag around 12 - 1 pm on either occasions. Regarding the road, about 25 kms is excellent 6 lane concrete road with tolls. About 20 kms in uneven/broken 2 lane road with truck traffic. That said, there are not any big potholes and route won't be a challenge for a sedan or hatchback.

If one is unlucky, one might get stuck here. While I was lucky both times and crossed this junction in 2-3 mins, I could see almost a km long pile up of vehicles on the other side.

All said and done, this bypass is still preferred by a lot of private cars and small vehicles.

Welcome to Bhubaneswar!

1. Take the Chittoor - Tirupati route.

3. Yes, there are a few Reliance bunks but haven't tried that. Yesterday, I filled at this IOCL COCO bunk: https://maps.app.goo.gl/tgteyoQUC84r9PPRA

4. Godavari 4th bridge route, to bypass Rajahmundry, is in good shape now. There might some delay at the Kovvur toll plaza but I would still recommend this route (Google suggests this route too as it is shorter).

5. No special care required.

All the best for your trip.
