Good choice Anil, Go head with the plan. Only one suggestion about Saint Marry Island. I feel its better to reach boat pickup point by 10AM so that it won't get too crowded and you can spend enough time in Island. Make sure you take neccessary precautions there.

Which hotel you plan to stay in Udupi since I am also visiting there in couple of weeks.

Regards,

Ravi.

I think the SHarada International is the best choice, good parking etc

Hey Anil, Sounded very much like my itinerary to begin with. Should be do-able, as I am planning to do it with my toddlers...

Looks like many Team-BHPians would be around that area in Dec.
Yes Ravi, what kind of precautions, please elaborate

Hi ST7677, yes, it is very much the same as your itinerary except for few changes. In fact, sorry for not asking permission, but, I copied your post and edited it

We are also planning with our only toddler.

May be, we can all meet at Udupi.

The Road less travelled!!

I did Bangalore - Mangalore (Karkala) last weekend and here is the route I took.

Bangalore - Hassan - Belur - Mudigere - kottigehara - Magundi -Balehole -Kalasa - Kudremukh- Karkala.

#Kotigehara to Kalasa - there are two routes, the one which directly conncects you to kalasa is in bad shape, so take a detour through Magundi and reach Kalasa, it works out to be just 5 Kms more.

Total Distance - 393 Kms ( RT Nagar, Bangalore----Karkala)

Day 3
Udupi - Kukke (62) - Sulya - Madikere (147)

Thanks in advance
Is udupi to kukke just 62Kms ??
If the route is Udupi-Karkala-Belthangady-Dharmasthala-Gundya- Kukke
I really doubt the distance then. Probably it's almost 100kms

This is very incorrect. The closest route between udupi to Madikeri is Udupi-Manipal-Karkala-Moodubidri-Bantwala-BC road-Puttur-Sullya-Madikeri. That is about 195Kms. Kukke is not on the way, you have to take a detour, and it at least 160Kms from Udupi.

Just Udupi-Karkala-Belthangady-Dharmasthala is 105Kms.

Hi,

Could you provide the distance from Kottigehara to Kalasa via Magundi. What is your take on the condition of this Stretch. Any bad stretches in between and how long will it take to cover this distance. Also how is the stretch from Belur to Mudigere.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for correcting me. In this case, will the 3rd day by more hectic, considering the extra detour that I need to take for Kukke?

It's a copy paste error, as Anil has changed his itinerary.
In my case I had mentioned Dharmasthala to Kukke (62 kms).

Kottigehara to Kalasa would be less than 15 Kms, through Magundi would be approx 6-7 Kms more. This route isnt great, strictly speaking, but is much better than the staright connect. This is your best bet!

The Belur to Mudigere stretch is decent as well.
