I am driving to Kabini tomorrow morning. I read that there were blockages near Mandya, Mysore yesterday. What route is best considering the situation now? Is it better to take the kanakapura route?

Thanks NPV. I will be driving out of Bangalore and hopefully the traffic will be lesser in that direction

Unless there is some water logging etc I would still stick to an early start say 4.30-5am and take Mysore Road. Stop for breakfast at Kamat Madhuvan opposite Mysore palace and then take the Mananthavady road to Kabini.

re: Driving between Bangalore and Mysore

Driving to Bengaluru tomorrow from Mysuru. Starting at 12 pm. Came via the standard NH275 via Ramnagara, Mandya. Planning to go back via Bannur, Malavalli, Kanakapura. Hows the present road condition of the same ??? Should I do that route or stick to the standard SH17 (NH275) ??

Thanks,
Aniketh

You have to watch out for odd potholes till Bunnur. In Bannur, there is road construction for about 5KM. After that it is good and then the road deteriorates near Mysore but easily manageable. Advantage is less traffic.

If you're starting by 12pm, NH275 should be empty. The real rush starts from 2.30-3pm. Roads between Mysore and Bannur are being widened and are pretty much in shambles. This is for about 15-20KMs, rest of the roads are smooth.

I went this way near Diwali; and my experience is that Malavally-Bannur is awesome. The first pic in this post shows this section of the road.

Misery of Driving between Bangalore and Mysore on Sundays

Just got back a few hours ago. Was bored of the NH275, so wanted to try something new

Malavalli - Kanakapura

- Apart from a 8-10 Kms stretch before Bannur town, I think the overall route is awesome.

- the first few Kms till Harohalli from Mysuru have very narrow roads and a lot of undulations.

- But Purely a "driver's" route. People who love to drive will enjoy this route immensely.

- there are no restaurants at all unlike NH275. Nothing worth mentioning. If with family, I would not suggest this route or pack food to consume on the way.

- Kanakapura to Bengaluru is very heavy on traffic.

- Very few speedbreakers on the way. Only before and after average sized towns, not the small villages

- overall route traffic is much less than NH275 but compared to travelling here a year ago, it has increased quite significantly.

Thanks & Regards,
Aniketh

re: Driving between Bangalore and Mysore

Just did a trip to Coorg including Nagarhole National Park over the weekend. Started going via usual NH275. I stay near PESIT and it took me 30-35 mins to just reach Kengeri. So took the NICE road and went from Kanakpura-Malavalli-Mysore.

Like it has been mentioned already, only about 4 kms inside Bannur town is where road conditions are bad. About half of it getting ready to be asphalted soon, rest is still is the old road that is in bad shape. Apart from that the rest of the journey is peaceful with very little traffic. Rolled down the windows and enjoyed a nice drive going around 90-100kmph and still reached within 2.5 hours of so.

P.S - There a few boards of a MTR 1924 being there after AOL ashram. I could not find it at all. There are boards that say 1.5kms, 1km and 0.5km ahead and behind, but no clue as to where the actual place is.

Just before you reach ashram while coming from Kanakapura side, there is a slight uphill stretch and a sharp right followed by left curve. The restaurant is on the right hand side, 50-100 meters off the main highway between the left and right curves. It is actually in the sumeru software campus.

re: Driving between Bangalore and Mysore

For those taking Kanakpura road a word of caution :
Road has been resurfaced at multiple places between Mallavalli and Chamarajnagar. However, there are few potholes between Kanakpura and Mallavalli. Though less in count (~ 5), they are bad enough to damage tyre if not noticed. On way back hit one at somewhat high speed, luckily escaped without damaging tyre.

Post based on my trip to Calicut which I took via NH 209. Complete route update here.

Can anyone give an idea please?
Route should be fine. From the NICE road's exit to Mysore road give yourself about 2.5 hours to reach Mysore. Keep speeds in check, there are speed barricades en route and watch out for village traffic that can sometimes get you by surprise.
