That's what i meant when referred to the "sarkari department" a.k.a Customs department. What I can't figure out is that people who ordered stuff using courier service, attracted custom duty of 37.5% while people who ordered the same product using postal service attracted no custom duty. Any ideas on the reason for this discrepancy?

folks, all these threads got me interested in doing some search of my own and I found the following link. Shows you how to exercise the right way. Maybe useful to some if not all. By the way, I'm surprised nobody really touched upon the motivation aspect. Nobody can deny the mind-body connection, especially, in something as demanding as body building. You can eat the right food and you can even learn to exercise the right way, but if you lack the motivation or the drive to achieve what you want, its not of much use. It is true of most things in life and body building/weight loss is no different.

Good point. We can try to list the reasons for demotivation.. Here's what I think
1. Want to grow too big too soon or loose too much too soon.
2. We like the idea of going to a gym instead of the going there for the real reason: working out
3. Not seeing the results which we set out for
4. Comparing the weight you lift viz-a-viz comparasion with what others lift
5. Lack of gym buddies
6. Lack of clear knowledge

:s

One word, convenience

I don't want to sit and eat that big piece of meat or 20 eggs when I can get the same thing in purer form in one glass. Yes 60g protein in 2 minutes is amazing with the lives we live.

1.Agreed- everything takes time and some people dont realise that. They want to be a Arnold in a month from a 200 pound heavy duty. i think this is the biggest reason.
2.Agreed- i know some guys who go there to check out chicks, common give me a break!
3. Agreed
4.- Agreed- Most common scenario.
5. Disagreed- why do you need gym buddies? Its not a place to socialize. You are there to work out not gossip. Period.
Moreover i always believed your trainer is d best buddy in d gym who will only open his mouth when you need guidancestupid:
6.-Agreed- however in the age of internet its easily available.

My way of motivation is simple. i had set myself monthly goals. If i dont achieve them i find it why and then correct it asap and then back to the goal.

+1.eating good and healthy is a must. Supplements is a help which busy guys like me need at times. It has worked for me in the past and it is working now.

Earlier today wanted to reply then decided not to, anyway here goes :

Congrats and I mean it!

Good old days are just that. Good old. Life isnt that simple anymore and
peoples objectives have changed, fitness and bodybuilding are 2 very different things.

Did you mean to say that you have never taken any Food supplements? Because Multivitamins, vitamin C, calcium are also 'supplements'.... you get my drift.

Fitness & Supplements do not share as strong a correlation as Bodybuilding & Supplements.

"Better physique" again depends on the goal, these days the bodybuilding look is out and the Abercrombie&Fitch model look is in... if you mean your more fit than a lot of people in your gym then yeah!

Just as a disclaimer, supplements are the least important of gym/fitness/BB regime, would allot a 5% to it in the matrix.

P.S : Where do you workout?

I havent seen a gym for two months now, and I " have a better physique than a lot of the people at your gym right now"clap:

(only kidding. I'm a fat slob.)

EDIT: @s0uljah: A bodybuilder/fitness-athlete would give it 30%. meh. I would give it 30%. The rest is inside/within you (no pun intended.)

EDIT2: wheres 1-T? he was to get some big daddy protein in June...

The trouble is that the good old days (agreed they were good in this rgeard atleast) of eating right are, in most cases, not practically applicable today.
I'm not sure about Canada, but atleast here in India, you can bet that the average citizen even who knows about eating right, doesn't eat right on a regular basis! I don't know anyone who eats a balanced diet with all organic vegs. and fruits today, not even in our household where both my parents were Nutrition specialists!

Working out can still be carried out, even if you don't have access to a gym. And for that matter, it is all the more common today than it was in the good old days (or atleast back in our childhood)
But eating right, ie. balanced diet is practically impossible with the kind of lifestyles we have today, unless you take time/patience out to consuming more of raw vegs. and unpeeled fruits in your diet everyday. That too, organically grown ones, which we rarely get today in the first place. Which is why I feel it doesn't really work when people insist that we eat more of vegs. and fruit given the kind that we get today.

I would have to agree with your statement. I've actually seen better gains while NOT being on supplements.

I remember as a kid, my mum used to feed me Vitamin B pills and cod liver oil capsules. But after I came to Canada, I've never taken any kind of supplements, not even those ones.

What I believe in is maintaining a perfect balance in your body. Your body (or everything inside of it) was not designed for pills, protein shakes or whatever it is you guys take. If you can eat and drink right (fruits, vegetables, lean meat, water, etc.), you can at least hope to maintain that balance, and live a disease free life. Remember natural foods are better than synthetic ones.

I understand that a lot of people including me have a sedentary lifestyle, especially at work (I've to spend hours sometimes in front of the computer making engineering drawings and reports amongst other things), but working out at the gym kind of "makes up" for that lack of activity.

I'm not too crazy about organic foods, and they are also ridiculously expensive, but I do tend to stick to the basics when it comes to my diet. Maybe living in Canada helps, because people here are supposed to be health conscious, but I have seen a higher percentage of obese people here than in India.

@s0uljah: I work out at my local gym. Cardio + weights. Although have been spending more time with weights lately.

Guys,

What are some websites on which you can purchase supps in India?

Try lbnutrition.com but you wont find all the products as you would find on bodybuilding.com.

I forgot to add another point which is similar to one of the points made here earlier; and that is about going in with an open mind/ no prejudice, and trying to keep your mouth shut and ears open more often. I have noticed so many guys in my gym who come in like they are getting into a disco. Giving hi-5s, hugging their mates (i get sick in the stomach seeing them hug a hair ball who is all sweaty not because he worked out, but mostly because he ran his motor mouth so long, his body needed to cool off), and then there are sly remarks about some hot chick on the thread mill. The list goes on, but the funny part is I have seen some guys, who, after exercising their mouth for long, try to flex in front of the mirror ! I mean come on !! If talking alone could give you a good physique, we'd have Mr. Olympia's in every "nukkad" of this vast country. And the Nakhra show these guys put up would put Ekta Kapoor's "rona-dhona" show to shame. I won't even get started on that.

Anyway, the point I wanted to make is, body building is an art form, and like any other art form, it needs dedication and the conviction to take qualified advice and implement it as if your life depended on it. Period.

^
Add to that list the guys who leave a mess in the locker rooms.
Keep their clothes hanging on the locker doors instead of storing them inside.
Bring a lot of sand in because they don't wipe their shoes.
Come dripping wet out of the showers and leave a puddle.
Talk on cell phones loud.
Leave sweat stains on the machines because they don't wipe up after use.
Don't use a towel.

Just a bunch of points.
So that someone who does it and reads it here may realise that its not good manners.

And how is that different from anywhere else in the world?

Stop whining, do your weights and go home. Don't waste time getting offended by idiots, there's too many of them out there...

i normally goto my peaceful society gym as its empty but dont mind going to other gyms- dont generally get involved with all the glib talkers - and just concentrate on my workout - if my partner is not around take support from the trainer or adjust to workout where i dont need support - no point getting offended by others - its their life - everuone has different reasons for coming to gym - i do my stuff and thats it :)

Hey. I have no issues with anyone in the gym.

It would just help if people understand that they should leave a place cleaner than it was.

Simple things that would take no extra time on their part.
Bring a towel to wipe up between sessions so no sweat is left on machines.
Keeping clothes inside rather than on the lockers.

For some reason this totally freaks me out.

bblost, good manners in a gym evade everyone but the most dedicated and thoughtful people. What you could do is tell these people to wipe the seat/machine after they're done with it. Nobody does it to annoy everyone, most are simply oblivious to other people's annoyances. Plus, if I ever forgot to wipe the dumbbells after I was done and someone told me about it, I'd be very ashamed and would never repeat it again.

Try talking to them once, they're not doing most of it on purpose.

Also, happy birthday :)

We have 3 boys with bottles of diluted dettol and wiping clothes running around whenever someone finishes and moves to another machine. We have majority of people with small personal towels, apart from all these, I find certain areas soaked in sweat. With the virus-related diseases making its rounds all over the world, we might ideally go to a public gym with nose pad, full covering gloves, thick towels, eye-wear and a thick chaddi that could protect your bum from absorbing someone else's 'doubtful' sweat into your body ! Time to request reebok, addidas, puma, nike etc to increase the thickness of their gymwear items, may be they are not implementing global-warming situation into their designs !:)
