I like keeping one tank and one bowl. Earlier when I was younger it was two big tanks (office & home) and a bowl. Half of the fish bowl water has to be changed twice a week.

Re: My Fishkeeping hobby

Here are some random pictures from my marine aquarium. Took me a year to set up. It's a fully custom made 400L tank (ultra clear glass from Israel) with a 100L dedicated sump. The lighting simulates an actual day night cycle which is fully automated. Both the tomato clown and true percula clownfish are a year old.

Re: My Fishkeeping hobby

Hello Fellow Hobbyists,

I have a small 70 liter fish tank, which houses a small Koi, a Gold fish and 3 dwarf gouramis.
I would run out of fish food in another couple of days and have no way to buy it amid lock-down. Need suggestions on what can I feed them that is available in the house until the lock down ends.

Once, when no one was home for 3 or 4 days, my mum suggested putting coriander leaves (cut into small pieces) into the aquarium. All the fish survived

I don't think coriander leaves are long term solution though. You can go to a larger convenience store and see if they have fish food available there. Other option is to go to your pet store, call up the owner (number will be on the store signboard) and ask for home delivery.

I once used to make homemade fish foods using spinach, carrot, chicken liver and gelatin. These boiled and cooled forms a solid block which can be cut in in small pieces in cold condition and fed to the fishes. But the catch is you need Gelatin.

Alternatively there are lots of info on the web about preparing homemade fish food. One of them is:
https://pethelpful.com/fish-aquarium...-Own-Fish-Food

This came just from a google search. I'm not vouching for it.

Just try the regular cut vegetables/fruits for these fishes you mentioned, like cucumber, carrot, apple etc. just try small size portions and see if they are liking/eating it.

This is the latest pic of my current setup, running for last 1 year. Its a low-tech, NON-CO2, simple planted tank setup. So far running smoothly without any issues. Housing a couple of Boesemani Rainbows, Neon Rainbows, Corydoras and algae eaters. Both feeding and lighting are automated on timer and I do weekly 40% water change on this tank regularly.

One suggestion, please remove the Buddha head. For you, it may be a decoration but for many it is god and they might get offended. I think it was at Dharamsala that I saw the poster, "Buddha is god, not a decoration".

And what plants are those? I too have a non-CO2 tank and would like to try the way you have planted.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I did try cooked rice and the fishes seemed to eat it, but it does not float and immediately settles to the bottom, also I tried murmura (puffed rice), they ate it too. Would give a try to some veggies and fruits as suggested today Guess they are enjoying the variety too.

Of course, I am not too much of a believer, but this is indeed true and in Thailand I saw the same message. It also conveyed the meaning that if one does not worship, they should not be keeping it at home in full or in part.

@Narayanan I see that the substrate is sand. Have you layered it on top of something else or is it only sand? I am curious to know how these plants grow in sand or if you have used a substrate.

My Fishkeeping hobby

I got a new custom made tank (3 x 2 x2 ft3) and was in process of setting up a planted tank and covid-19 lockdown came in force.
One of the big issue I faced is getting a branded CO2 cylinder here in Bangalore, like luxfer.

Any pointer, where I can get a branded CO2 cylinder ( 2-5 kg) would be appreciated.

Re: My Fishkeeping hobby

Pardon my ignorance. What is a CO2 cylinder? I assume something to do with carbon dioxide? Benefits? Thanks in advance for your answer.

Sir normally for a planted tank people provide external carbon dioxide(CO2) to improve the plant growth since the plants need them to perform photosynthesis and grow. Normally this is injected into the tank with the help of refillable CO2 cylinders and is injected quite slowly compared to regular aeration. However this is what is usually called a hi-tech planted setup while people like me dont use any sort of extra CO2 infusion and leave it to nature.

Many thanks for your explanation. I also like to keep minimum accessories. Always good to learn. When I started keeping my own fish in 1973 things were quite rudimentary.

They are Anubias NaNa and Java Ferns. They also started propagating inside the tank, with new baby plants coming from different adult plants.

Yes its the regular aquarium white sand and I dont have any planted soil substrate at all in my tank. These plants cannot be planted on soil and they need a driftwood or rocks to attach to. Those drift wood also, are the natural ones I collected from my hometown backyard, so the entire setup is minimalist one.

cheers,

Nice simple yet lovely setup. I am extremely weak when it comes to drfitwood and java ferns!
