Just the app is banned right? The website is still available?

Yes, that is my concern.

They can't stop clearance from a particular country given the trade agreements but what they can certainly ask from buyers is proof of payment, a copy of the purchase order, or the order confirmation from the eCommerce site.

Edit - Just checked the message of Samurai- so this will be tricky, they haven't banned any webpages other than some porn sites so, technically shopping via the browser will be legal until they decide otherwise.

Re: Buying from AliExpress

The app is working if accessed via a VPN. Ive noticed, recent shipments from aliexpress are taking a lot of time to clear via the postal system in India.

The app is still working fine for me. I hope to continue using it.
Many shipments are rerouted via Malaysia, Netherlands or Singapore anyway. The only issue would be if Indian banks stop accepting payments for them or if they themselves stop accepting orders from India.

Re: Buying from AliExpress

Aliexpress/Seller is currently routing some parcels through Malaysia to India. Can someone shed some light regarding the transit time.My order, when tracked, is showing as en-route to India since 04/11/20.

Re: Buying from AliExpress

I've bought a bunch of stuff from Aliexpress since 2015, but never installed the app. I just did not feel comfortable even then, and till date this remains my only 'direct' Chinese shopping interaction. Just to be clear, GoI is not blocking online commerce with Aliexpress but only the app. Let us not mix up this crucial difference. If people still want to use the app through VPNs etc, they are free to do so.

Again, Customs checking and the rampant massive false / under-declarations are another matter altogether, and the 2 issues should not be conflated.

I never used the app but the website is partially working for me. By partial, I mean I can land at a product page via google but if I directly enter the address aliexpress.com, it doesn't open. And some of the images are also not loading. From the product page, I am able to add the item to cart and go to checkout, but can't navigate to another "similar products" links. Looks like the ISP, Airtel has done a shitty job of blocking the site.

And if someone uses a payment gateway like Paypal, how will the banks stop payments?

It is taking about 2 months now due to custom backups. The status will change very slowly and each change can take 3 to 5 weeks.

Thanks for the information. The app is working fine for me. Unfortunately Aliexpress doesn’t accept Paypal.

I had recently ordered a Bluetooth relay circuit and it came via Malaysia from China. You know what, in Malaysia they change the country of origin to MY from CN.

Re: Buying from AliExpress

So wanted to share a quick experience here on my recent order on Alibaba order.

1. I had ordered from Taochis store on Alibaba for HID fog lamps for my 2013 Chevrolet Sail along with 55W kit and wiring harness. The first shipment arrived via customs with out any duty on it.

2. The first shipment done by the seller had incorrect lenses shipped that did not fit the brackets provided along with it.

3. Seller agreed to send new lenses once the trade assurance period was over.

4. On the replacement lenses that were sent, I am charged duty+GST of INR 2250 on $23 lenses.

When asked at local post office, he said the fight may be long and not worth it. The parcel was also opened by Mumbai Custom post office for valuation. Post office guy also said this is the situation with all parcels with origin as China. Information shared here for benefit of all.
