More bad news - every part of the body with ACE2 receptors is affected: article

Coronavirus Hijacks the Body From Head to Toe, Perplexing Doctors

Garvon Russell was having trouble breathing when he arrived sick with Covid-19 at a New York City emergency room. By the time he left the hospital two weeks later, he had battled the new coronavirus all over his body.

His lungs were inflamed, their tiny air sacs filled with fluid that made it hard for oxygen to get into his bloodstream. His kidneys failed with Mr. Russell in septic shock from his infection...

Pretty comprehensive article on the work going on amongst nations on study of corona viruses and a dossier on acts by China to somehow hide the info about the virus and outbreak.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Just saw this article about new guidelines for discharging positive patients.

https://m.timesofindia.com/india/onl...w/75641087.cms

Apparently, negative testing requirement for discharge had been waived off for less severe cases. Perhaps I am missing something but to a layman like me, it looks like we are giving up on the testing and containment strategy. What is stopping an asymptomatic carrier shedding a good viral load from being discharged?

I think this is in order to free up the heathcare facilities. These patients have already been tested and identified - but their cases are mild, so they will be isolated at home possibly. Going forward, with numbers expected to explode, we can not afford to have hospital beds occupied with those with no or minimal risk to their health.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Came across this on my twitter feed. I am unsure as to what should I infer from it. But it still raises some thought provoking questions.

Should not raise any questions.

The doctor is also anti vaccine, which should say something.

Thanks for sharing the link.

I have also included another fact check about her claims in my post.

But I haven't come across anything to refute the allegations around doctors expressing concerns over classifying a lot of "probable" deaths to covid. Higher numbers tend to drive up the fear factor in people's minds. And this fear is what seems to be driving policy decisions in most countries at the moment.

Like I said, I can't draw any conclusions either way, but it has certainly piqued my curiosity.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

How do Indian states fare in testing rate.

The Coronavirus Thread-screenshot_20200509204120_samsung-internet.jpg
Source as of May 7, 2020

Delhi, Tamilnadu, Andhra pradesh and J&K stand out with high testing rates per million population. TN, AP, J&K also fared lower % of positive cases among all tested samples. Which means these states are testing more rigorously beyond suspected population.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

^^ Actually TN has the highest number of tests till date, about 229k. Approximately 14k tests are done everyday. Maharashtra also has more than 200k tests. But what perplexes me is the mortality rate in Maharashtra and Gujarat. These two states together consistently have around sixty to seventy deaths everyday. What could be the reason?

Maybe patients with acute symptoms or the one in the immediate chain are being tested at this moment. If they test everyone, then the comparison will be fair. So, there are high chances of actual infected people being far more than what we know. Eventually, MHA may issue guidelines based on the mortalities as they have done away testing recovered patients. Already in some states, infected people are being advised to self quarantine at home.

Edit - Gujarat is now no longer testing family members of infected until they show signs

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

^^ I am not talking of percentages here but absolute numbers. If you take the total number of dead in India which is 2102 as on date, Mah (779) and Guj (472) alone have 1251 of them. Rest of India is 851 only.

Yeah, I understand. What I mean is that 1251 from how many infections? That's an unknown in my understanding. Even in West Bengal, you will find higher deaths vs relative cases. So chances are that some states are infected much higher. Known cases is just a number based on the tests.

Otherwise, I don't think there is any major difference in the treatment or facilities. But some Doctors here can verify. Or is this something to do with Genes, like what is being experienced in other countries?

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

^^Not treatment facilities, but I was wondering if they have a different strain of the virus perhaps. Any doctors in the forum please comment.
