Re: The "It's raining in my city" Thread!

There seems to be no love lost between Karnataka and the rains this monsoon season. While central and northern parts of the state are in the process of being declared drought hit, the Malenadu hinterlands too are facing acute shortage of rainfall.

Yesterday, we were part of an event called ಮಳೆ ನಡಿಗೆ/Trek in the Rains. It started from Kottigehara and ended at Devaramane - a distance of around 12 km by foot - passing through numerous hillocks, thick vegetation and fields. Whereas the entire trek was to have happened in the midst of pouring rain, we were blessed with intermittent showers only in the last ten minutes of the sojourn, when we reached the destination.

The forest officials who accompanied us were telling that the place has received only one third of the rains that it should have normally recieved by now.

While the northern parts of the country are facing the wrath of monsoons, we in the south are left praying to the rain gods to bless us with their bounty.

Rain rain and more rain in Patiala, Punjab.

Just had flooding in some parts of the city a couple of weeks ago and after a dry week it is pounding hard today. No electricity since morning.

In spite of some abundance in certain pockets, is it perhaps time for the majority to say that "it hasn't rained properly in my city?"

Though the map shows only -5% for the south interior KA macro region, I think for Bengaluru the deficit would be much more. I can only recall 2-3 days this season when it rained substantially. Scary times ahead for Bengaluru .

Scary times indeed! Still waiting for the April showers of 2024. It was quite cloudy today in Bangalore in the noon and now it is sunny again.

I am late to reply to your August post. The +7% in North Karnataka cannot be right. It was a dry year and farmers struggled in most of North Karnataka. Dams preserved water for drinking purposes and minimal water was released in canals, so even irrigated lands suffered.

It finally rained in Bengaluru

Had a good chunk of rains last night (since evening in fact) across the city (as testified by friends in the WhatsApp group).

Waiting for more

After an unprecedented and prolonged heat wave in Kolkata and south Bengal, it rained buckets last evening as was forecast. More is in store today.

We have had 3 days of rain already this month ! 2 days for whole of Bengaluru. The temperature is now normal like 34/33 C. Hope monsoons will get more precipitation.
Our IMD should be outsourced and closed. They dont forecast rain, then when it rains they explain how it rained and will say it will continue for few more days

Re: The "It's raining in my city" Thread!

Pathetic situation in Miyapur area of Hyderabad. I literally got drowned today in my Ciaz.
Many trees fell. Hailstorm with quite large sized hails. Haven't seen the condition of the car yet after exiting as it was raining heavily. No electricity in many areas. Saw many bikes and cars waterlogged.

Absolutely. They cannot even predict if it rains on a day or not with decent accuracy. What is the point of launching so many weather satellites if the agency cannot use the data provided by the satellites' and other weather monitoring equipment's to provide a reasonable prediction!?
