And about the watch I own. It is an ebel gents classic model. Am not sure about how good ebel is but I know for sure that it is very expensive. Mine was a birthday gift from dad and its 1.4 L approx.
Somehow this post went off the radar. Anand, does your Ebel by any chance runs on an el primero movement? Could you pls check and confirm?

@jvh
I have no idea what el primero movement is! How do I check that. Am afraid to even touch the watch after learning its price. :(

El Primero is an highly acclaimed automatic chronograph movement first established by Zenith in collaboration with Movado 1969. Most of the Zenith automatic chronographs have this movement and so does some of the Ebels. Movado no longer have watches with this movement now. The beauty of this movement is that it has a frequency of 36000 per hour against the coventional standard ETA rate of 28800. This leads to the seconds hand beating 10 times per minute against 8 times which results in a beautiful sweeping motion of the seconds hand. Besides its more accurate within the chronometer specs of +4/-6 secs per day of deviation.

There's a description of El Primero on the dial and the back case if it really has that movement. Its as simple.

The other movement which is similarly spec'd is the Hi-beat from Seiko. Seiko have this movement in some of their high end watches like Grand Seiko and King Seiko which is an absolute masterpiece.

re: Which watch do you own?

Are HMT watches available in normal watch showrooms, or only in HMT outlets? I've been searching in Pune without any luck so far. Do they sell online?

Cheers,
Vikram

^^
Don't fall for that offer.

They are claiming this watch was manufactured in 1940s and sell for $14.99
Better to purchase from a local dealer.

Vikram,
They are available in stores which are HMT authorized. In Bangalore, these are typically Titan showrooms who are also authorized for HMT watches. Am not sure if its against the forum rules to mention an ebay seller's name here who has been exporting genuine HMTs. I do not have any interaction with him so far but going by some posts on some other forums, he seems to have a good reputation. But do keep on trying. In Bangalore, these kind of stores are typically available in old areas, not the suburbs. So, you might want to check in such areas in Pune as well.

I dont think its against the forum rules given its not your business venture. Do share the name of the reputed seller so that all members can benefit.

This link has his details. Again I don't know this person nor have dealt with him. But what I have read on the same forum is that the members buy watches from him frequently and have reportedly had good experiences.

On another topic, My Seiko Bell-matic (pics posted a few pages before) suddenly stopped working a few days ago. After a few shakes, it used to run but was stopping every 10-20 seconds later. I got it serviced for 700 bucks and collected it today. Runs like a charm now. Apparently the lubrication was not enough and my man fixed the same. He even cleaned the hands a little bit and its looking quite good now.

re: Which watch do you own?

Which watch to pick for a budget of 3k? I can stretch it max to 3.5k.

No affiliation to any brands, anything will do. Looking for something which is semi-formal for office use. It should go well both on casuals and formals.

PS: I am a noob to watch terminology; quartz, chronograph and the likes don't ring a bell to me

You can see this one. I got for about 3.5k in February, 2012. I can see advertisement of it on team-bhp too.
