Many of such category members have been banned from the forums too. So my suggestion to you is. Contribute. Give something to the forum. Only if you give something you can expect to get something back,

Valid point, TSK1979, but what I suggested was that one's membership status changes with time as well as the number of posts, &/or either. You would need a basic 15-20 posts to even qualify for change. The point I'm trying to make is that I have been trying (like most other members here) to preserve the sanctity of the information & the forum, not clutter it with absolutely pointless two-bits. Only if I had a genuine question to ask or a point to make would I post.

My motives are not entirely philantrophic, to be honest ;) - I just bought myself a car & have started fooling around with it. I'm dying to upload snaps since the past one month in the BHP Garage sector, as well as sell the alloy wheels & tyres from my previous Esteem, but I simply can't, because of my status as a Newbie even after 15 odd months of membership.

Elf,
We are working on tweaking the membership level requirements. Will get back to you soon.

hey mods, don't you think that the TBHP-meets section is better off under the Buckle Up - Street and Travel Experiences forum?
Because, every tbhp meet, which usually involves a long drive together somewhere, is invariably is a special experience shared together. What do you think?

Godspeed.

Alok.

ghostrider4385,

Interesting point, but not all meets & meet reports involve a drive.
If it aint broke, dont fix it. is my take on this one. Lets see if any other mods have different views.

Hey mods,

Two suggestions:

1. Can you PLEASE make this thread a sticky!

2. Is there any provision in this software, which enables the author of a thread to edit any of its posts, disregarding his status on the forum, i.e., bhpian or senior bhpian?
This would make it easier for him to make minor but important changes/updates in his previous/old posts, like updating links if one has become outdated, etc., instead of troubling you mods with every little thing that we could manage ourselves. I think this seriously needs to be considered.

Godspeed.

Alok.

I agree with the sticky part, but not the second part. Currently editing is allowed for 20 minutes. With 20min limit being removed misuse can be rampant. For example I post and obvious flame. Somebody reacts and couple of days I edit my post which leads to showing that person in bad light, it would appear that the person had not reacted to my post but simply made an offensive comment

I am not sure if someone has suggested this before or not... or if there is already a way to do this... but still, here goes.
Is it possible to have a preview kind of feature (a la MS Outlook) for the latest post in a thread? I mean, when i click on "New Posts" (which i do all the time), it would be nice if i get a preview of the last post in the threads that show up. that will save me the effort of clicking on threads that are hardly worth a look ( for example, posts that have just "welcome to the forum... read the rules" in Intro, or "I agree." , or "happy birthday" ).
I hope i have managed to explain properly to some extent what i am trying to say here.

Cheers
Amitoj

Point noted Tanveer. Makes sense. I had not thought about it that way.

Godspeed.

So you mean we should give a fresh member the authority to edit other peoples opinions? Impossible.

Right now, a thread preview is available where you can view the first couple of words in the opening post. However, the new posts feature is not available.

GTO, I either didn't really understand what you mean by the above, or you haven't interpreted my post right.
My idea was, give the AUTHOR of the thread a little leeway so that he may be able to edit minor stuff later on, like updating links, pics, etc. in HIS (this should have been mentioned instead of "it's"; forgive my choice of words)post, if your software permits you to.
And I don't think I have mentioned newbie (done on purpose) anywhere in the post. I said bhpians & senior bhpians.

Hope you understand my suggestion clearly now :).

Godspeed.

Apart from custom tags like [img8] [b*] etc., is it possible to enable limited HTML? This way those of us familiar with html could easily add images etc., Since limited tags are supported it wont mess around with the general site layout.
I find <a href="some address"><img src="img" parameter1 parameter2 etc.,></a> style of linking in images more flexible as lots of other parameters about the image can be changed. Same for links. If its possible to be enabled in the forum software, why not do it!

Hey there is something wrong with the "Views" column when you do a "New posts". If i view a new thread for the first time, the number in that column does not increase by 1 for a while. what does this mean??

Amitoj,

It takes some time to update, but it does. (Hit refresh on your browser and not only the back button).
Also, a lot of counts on this forum are updated on the hour.

And also, how about getting a hobby or something else to keep you occupied :p

Then you should have said author of the post instead of author of the thread. Even editing the post can be easily misused as tsk1979 mentioned. If a member says something bad and others protest it, he can easily go back and modify his post and make the other members sound very harsh for no reason.

1) A member can edit his/her post for a short amount of time.
2) A member can never edit others opinion even if he/she is the initiator of the thread.

Ofcourse, mods are the only ones who are allowed to do both.:) But that power comes with lots of responsibility.
