Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

^^ I have heard seemingly educated people say this . Once someone told me,90 on a diesel car is different from 90 in a petrol car!

Except in this case
(check the part with "Yeh 50 aur doosra gaadi ka 50 alag hota hai.")

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

Latest funny comment I heard from a Maruti salesman a few weeks back. I had gone there to enquire about the status of my Swift booking. The sales guy attending to another bunch of customers :

customer : what is the difference between Swift Diesel and Ertiga diesel?
sales guy (after explaining a few feature differences) : Sir Swift is 75bhp power. Ertiga is 91bhp.
customer : how come? you said both use the same type of engines, right?
sales guy : sir Swift has normal turbocharger, Ertiga has a 'Super turbocharger' . That's why it is more powerful <referring to VGT>
customer : oh (nods in agreement). How about mileage?
sales guy : Swift is better sir. Ertiga has rear AC vents so it will give lesser mileage. Swift has only front AC vents so better mileage

My petrolhead friend and I could barely contain our laughter after the mention of 'Super turbocharger', so we moved a little further away and burst out laughing.

Since the same engine is marketed as DDiS with SuperTurbo for SX4, the salesman was probably confused. I wonder why the term SuperTurbo is not used in Ertiga's marketing!

I think Maruti wanted to showcase SX4 DDiS as a powerful car (compared to Swift/dzire) as its USP.
Otherwise 2 lakhs more for the same engine is little difficult to justify even if cars are different.

Eritga didn't need this as its a MPV and it has its own USP regardless of the kind of engine used

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

Quirky and funny comment just a few minutes back at my workplace - A female colleague who is learning to drive a car now made this comment when we were chatting away during our tea break. She is still on day 2 of her driving lessons and is obviously frustrated that things seem so tough now.

Me : how are the driving classes going on?
she : don't ask. It is really tough. I mean with the clutch release and all. Why do they have to make it so difficult?
Me : Its just a matter of getting used to, you'll soon find it easy with more practice sessions
she : hmm.. but why do they need 3 pedals in the bottom? I mean, why should we struggle to control 3 pedals with 2 feet?? They could have given 1 pedal to be used with our hands. Anyway our hands are free to use, apart from changing gears and using indicators.
Me : <in shock and trying hard to control laughter> :

Haha lol.

She must be controlling steering with her mind.

She would have driving gearless scooter where you control everything from hands.

Yes you did. AND buried it safely 6 feet under too!

A girl in my office got her Alto to climb all over a divider and was the fuming because her co-passenger "didn't warn her". I was puzzled and asked if she climbed the divider on the LEFT side.

She says, no- right mein hee thaa. He was sitting behind me.

So I said- you were driving and didn't spot the divider...and you expect your rear seat passenger to spot it?

She said, yeah-- he should have seen it and warned me, idiot!

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

heard this one from a 'knowledgeable' person just the other day:
diesel is a heavier fuel, hence the fuel pumps in diesel cars have to be of higher capacity. This means that the fuel pump in diesel cars draw much more power from the batteries. Hence maintenance costs of diesel cars are higher as they require more frequent battery changes/servicing!!!!!

Me to a friend - I am looking for 98 pcd alloys, they are so tough to find!
Friend to me - Why do you need alloys, didn't your car come with wheel caps?

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

Just got off the phone with a friend, this is how the conversation went:

Me: You know my Polo has a HU from stone age, only plays CD/MP3. I'm thinking of going for an ICE upgrade
She: What the **** is ICE?
Me: Oh sorry, just new music system in car.
She (Angry tone): Why can't you just say car stereo and be done with it ? Why do you have to use words like ICE and confuse me
Me: laughing uncontrollably and manage a sorry.
She: Puh! Hopeless you are and bangs phone!

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

Having a conversation with a senior in office who is looking at 15 - 30 lakh 7 seaters.

Me : What is your requirement sir?
Sir : Comfortable and reliable 7 seater.
Me : Innova will suit you to the T.
Sir : Innova top model comes at near about 17 lakhs. I will better plonk my money on Ford Endeavour base model. It comes for about 19.3 Lakhs.
Me : I think Innova will be a more comfortable.
Sir : Yes, but Ford will be more reliable than a Toyota
Me : How have you arrived at this conclusion sir?
Sir : You see Ford has been in the business of making cars for more than 100 years. Toyota only for about 60 - 70 years. Naturally Ford will know how to make engines better.

Once he has rebounded off the ceiling 2 or 3 times, he will realize his mistake! Rear seat comfort is awful compared to Innova.

This is perfectly normal. Not many people are aware of the word ICE and I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

Or you are probably pointing to angry reaction of your friend.

Re: Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

Many use the term Full Option model for the top end variant. I have thought as to what that really mean. It is an oxymoron because it in fact means that all features are optional. isn't it?
