Re: The Cricket Thread

Now this is interesting after IPL snub. Lovely to see the fire in belly at this age.

Jimmy Anderson will resume his professional playing career and could play his first T20 game in more than a decade after agreeing a one-year contract extension with Lancashire.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What is the story behind Dhruv Jurel? His stats across T20I and first-class cricket are very average, and when I see him bat, I fail to find him a special talent or gifted player.

If teaching Ishaan Kishan a lesson isn't over, they can look at Anuj Rawat who seems like a much better T20 prospect. Urvil Patel is a super promising T20 wicket keeper. Even our very own Rishabh Pant is good T20 keeper.

Shreyas Iyer is missing too - are we slotting his as an ODI only player?

Rohit Sharma is practicing with Mumbai Ranji team at Wankhede along side Ajinya Rahane - good for him. Ajinka can teach him a thing or two about test match batting. Ajinkya Rahane was the highest run scorer at Syed Mushtaq ali trophy - I was surprised.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Remember Karun Nair? He is wreaking havoc at the currently running Vijay Hazare trophy. I would be surprised if he doesn't get a call up to national side. And if so happens, it would be a terrible signal to domestic players suggesting no matter what you do, we won't give you a cap.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Gautam Gambhir has reportedly pointed fingers at young batter Sarfaraz Khan, accusing him of leaking sensitive team information. Is he the one giving out info from the dressing room or his troubled past is again going to haunt him, right from schooling age to playing India. “Mr-Fixit” mystery still holds though.

Meanwhile from being dropped by Karnataka to Vidarbha's run machine. Knocking on the doors for CT and England series !!

Meanwhile this:

"BCCI has also decided to bar players from travelling with personal staff, including cooks, hairdressers, stylists, or personal security guards, on tours. "Players are not allowed to travel with their personal staff (cook, hairdresser, stylist, no personal security guard) on tour any more"

When the team was doing well (Shastri-Kohli era for example), all this was allowed and encouraged to keep players in a positive frame of mind. The exact opposite is happening now because the team is on a bad losing streak and such things will catch the attention of BCCI, selection committee etc. It also gives them some brownie points with respect to public sentiment when the media hypes these things to give the impression that they’re serious about getting their house in order.

Now the real question is who has leaked this information which happened behind the closed door in BCCI review meeting to the media

I was always of the opinion that players like Karun Nair, etc shouldn’t be brought into national team because we have to look forward, focus on youngsters, mould them early on and not regress to old players who were given a chance and lost it however unfair it might be. But he is still only 33, he can very well be given a chance in some format at least. New players get a shortcut from IPL all the time making things almost hopeless for these players. Same for Bhuvi, Chahal and many more

Who’s the common link between what happened at BGT dressing room and behind the close door in BCCI review meeting.

Your guess would be as good as mine. This guy is better suited to be a politician and not be close to the Indian test team.

For a batsmen 33 is a ripe age, not young, not old, many Aussies have made debut at this age. He might not be fit for the vigors of T20, but he can be looked into boring ODI’s and definitely in the scheme of tests. And looks like to get a place in Indian team atleast with England. But wait, Sharmaji will hit few centuries on flat decks and he will have to do the duty of “water boy”.

This team has got all the bad manners what Indian team had in late 90’s and early 2000’s. More conspiracy, less substance.

IMO, test team should only be picked from domestic FC cricket performances of the last 3 years. Even if a player is in hot form in IPL. And make the contracts accordingly. Period !!

India haven’t lost a T20 series to England in last 10 years - We are allowed to lose once in a decade - Sharmaji in PC while GG listens.

Fortunately he is retired from T20I, so I am much more hopeful for us to hold on to our record, specially with current T20 team.

Damn, in that case he has got a bigger challenge to achieve, India hasn’t lost ODI series to England at home in last 35 years. I’m sure he will get this feather also in his cap

This English team is looking hot on man to man comparison, specially in bowling department. I think they will grab the series.

What’s the use of scoring runs in tons, Karun Nayar and Mayank Agarwal are not looked in after playing brilliantly in VHT, and dead woods like Virat/Rohit/KL/Jadeja/Shami are tagged along, worst is they will form the core part of playing XI. It looks like a corporate culture, where non-performing people keep on getting good rating and performers are looked down.

And what’s the love affair with har(shit) to lug around and Prasid not getting a look in.

Surely, this team/management is on a slippery slope and on a downward spiral. They have made a simple game of cricket pretty complicated with too many stake holders.

What’s this referring to? Could you kindly elaborate?

Completely agree with you and sends the wrong signal that Instagram followers matter more than present form. We could still prepare roads for pitches and allow the venerables to pad their stats but that will not help us in the long run.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Along the expected line, but the real two surprises are dropping Siraj and making Gill the vice captain, that means he is a sure shot in final XI. I thought Jaiswal would open the innings with Captain.
