Re: The Cricket Thread

Chawla getting 4 highlights the issue further. If he is the best (on a given day) then we can understand how bad our bowling attack is. Poor Ishant kept trying (as he has done in probably his last 5-6 matches). This team is being selected more on base of personal rapport than performance report. People like Tiwary, Dinda, Rahane are getting ignored and poor Robin Bisht doesn't even get a mention during the selection. It's good that English bowlers are able to pick quick wickets else, we would have to tolerate a boring draw.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Just happened to see an ad while catching up with the match. India vs Pakistan, watch live from December 25th onwards.
Guess all the drubbing will be forgotten soon and the focus ll be shifted to that tournament.

Re: The Cricket Thread

IMO
India need to look beyond Sehwag and Gambhir at top.
Kohli needs to rethink. He has the talent, but if he has to succeed in the real test he needs to apply himself better.
Groom a real Test player for No 5/6 instead of stop gaps like Yuvi and raina)
Get two Fast bowlers in the team at any cost irrespective of the pitch. Groom them.
Identify real spin bowling talent who can bowl well even on pitches not supporting spin not bowlers who cant perform even on supportive tracks.
Make IPL a once in 2 year excercise. Better even, ban it.

No coments on Sachin and Dhoni.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So nightwatchman Dhoni came ahead to protect Ashwin & Jadeja.

I'm falling asleep just by watching the highlights show, spare a thought for the crowd at the stadium.

The main issue our team is facing is that there is more talent in the commentary box than on the field !

Re: The Cricket Thread

Good application from Kohli and Dhoni. I think Dhoni knew, if he got out early he will never play a test match as a captain again.
Dhoni has ensured with one good innings today that he will captain the side forever.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Both Kohli & Dhoni have faced more balls today than in any innings in their career so far. Just 17 overs to go. Can they carry their bat through, like Dravid & Laxman did in 2001?

BTW, great application from Kohli & Dhoni. Though its late by 2 tests, it better than never

Re: The Cricket Thread

Just when it was looking like a good day for India, it came crashing down in one hour. Great bowling by England and even better application by Kohli and Dhoni earlier in the day. They made England toil and sweat today.

Hope Ashwin, Ishant and the rest of the tail stick around for the full 30-over morning session and get a small lead tomorrow. A 50-60 run partnership would be a big bonus at this stage. A lead of 30 might just come in handy.

But if we are going to win this, we'll need to bowl out of our skins. And going by Cook's track record, it seems highly likely that it would end in a draw.

It has been an absorbing day of Test Cricket. It's very well balanced at the moment. Loved every moment of it. Looking forward to the 4th day.

Just goes to show how many times Dhoni has tried to apply himself in 74 tests that he has represented BCCI. This is not the first time team is facing crunch situation. Kohli is 10-12 tests old, I will give him benefit of doubt.

Both played really well, but to win test matches you need big hundreds. All hard work undone in last 10 minutes of play.

Jadeja - might have forgotten his triple triple hundreds in a jiffy facing injured Anderson

Why do you need Economic Times when you've got this:

But today's performance by India, Kohli and Dhoni in particular, was commendable! Especially Dhoni! The man kept wickets for 4 and a half sessions and then comes out to bat after a 30 over break (whilst the top-order collapsed) and played for 3 sessions straight.

Yes, he isn't the best batsman out there. And some might say he's doing this to keep his captaincy and test-cap, but the fact of the matter is that his score was instrumental in getting India close to England's 1st innings score.

His captaincy might be questionable, but he showed fight today. Hats off to him for that.

Sure he did keep wickets & then come out to bat after 30 over break but what about the earlier 6 innings in the series when he had enough rest sitting in the dressing room when he flopped badly apart from maybe 1 inning when he got 50 odd!

It just shows that if you put your head down, apply yourself & play according to the situation, you can succeed!

Hats off to him! This pretty much ensures that the axe won't fall on him for another 6 months atleast.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The English are cautiously putting everyone to sleep. 11 runs from 11 overs.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Hi everybody.
The match has become very interesting with all 4(4th being a tie) results possible. So well balanced that anything is possible.
Everybody would have a different view.
Whatever that is,hope this match doesnt become too one sided.

A well deserved series win for the Poms. I think we were effectively beaten at our own game. Status quo remains though! Only one team knows how to play spin!! And the Englishmen showed us who!!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Used to take Indians a couple of matches to adjust to the conditions (in aus, SA, eng etc). Turns out now they need the same in India too !

The worst team ever.
