Hope Sri Lanka can draw the match. 14 overs to go, 2 wickets to lose

Re: The Cricket Thread

I have never seen a home team performing like this ever. Even Bangladesh played well against West Indies at home. Shame on these guys. Dhoni is still defending himself.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I was watching Australia Vs SriLanka this morning. Aussies were pushing for a win. Look at the their intent to win. They had all fielders within 30 yard circle.

Most of them in catching areas. They managed to pull off a win. I can't publish India field setting due to BCCI restrictions

I think Dhoni was misunderstood on his views on turning pitch. He didn't demand turning pitches. He said like Australia, South Africa is known for pace & bouncy pitches, England for seaming wickets, India must be known for spinning tracks. Hence he felt India must produce turning pitches for adding variety in test cricket.
But media twisted his opinion & pitted against the curator of Eden gardens.

Last time India lost back-to-back tests at home, I think the captain was Sachin Tendulkar and he resigned. Ganguly took over and reversed the trend.

I feel the turning point of the series was Cook's knock in the 2nd innings of 1st test. Cook stay put at the wicket, showed his team-mates how to tackle the so called daemons in the wicket.
But baring Pujara (Kohli-Dhoni partnership in last Indian innings), none of the Indian batsmen showed any resolve to stay at the wicket. They played too many shots too early.

PS: Andy Flower, himself being a heavy scorer in India would have surely helped England's cause. Not sure to what extent Duncan Fletcher has helped Indian team.

Chalk and cheese. No bounce and no swing from the new ball. and no spin from the old.
If Dhoni had 6 men catching on the pitch at Nagpur. Forget about captaincy, he'd be put into a mental institution.

Hatari - Completely agree about the situation being totally different. But where were the short leg & silly point fielders for spinners? Trying to point on intent about winning not necessarily the 11 fielders withing 30 yard circle.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I guess we will win from Pakistan in odis and then everything will be forgotten about the Test crisis which we will face again with Australia if nothing is done now.
First step- Remove Dhoni. We need a fresh mind to take us forward.

A silly point/short leg are put in place when the wicket has bounce.
The nagpur track toward the end had none. Completely dead.

Dhoni did something that worked, the leg slip which got Trott (eventually) off Ashwin.

The fielding strategy cannot be faulted. The problem clearly lies with the batting and bowling department. In most cases batting prevents you from losing games while the bowling wins you games.

Touring teams have clearly got stronger with IPL exposure and we were probably the weakest team for the past 30 years.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The captain is only as good as the team. There was no collective effort from all players to win sessions. Sehwag had a few good starts including a 100, Gambhir started finding his touch at the fag end, Ojha lost his zip after the first 2 tests. We needed everyone to come good at the same time. Clearly this is mental fatigue, the skills are all there. Indian players have been playing non-stop for over a year and that cant be good.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Just get the feeling that Duncan Fletcher will be made the scapegoat & dumped soon! Earlier everyone wanted Dhoni to be sacked, now they want his workload to be reduced! Players are complaining that Fletcher is no good.

Anyways, read the below article, for a change Sachin is not dismissed !

A fresh mind will not make a difference when players are not performing.

Although, I was just thinking about something.
Dhone excels under pressure, hence success in T20. He clearly is the best there is.

ODI's are an extension of this.

Now Tests. Completely different. Maybe he has not excelled here because he needs that high level of intensity to thrive which Tests do not provide.
Kohli could be handed this over. Would remind me of the time South Africa handed over the reins to a 20 yr old Graeme Smith.

Nice article. But I feel Sachin still has cricket left in him.
ODI's vs England will answer all questions.

Hate to see him go like this.
All the 20+ years of cricket preceding this will take a backseat.

One thing is certain, no other player in the history of the game will get an ovation in any stadium of the world the way he gets it. I was there at Eden Gardens yet again, and what a sight. The first glimpse of him in the dressing room, when Pujara was not even half way to the boundary rope. Awesome.

After more than 20 long years in the field, Sachin has announced his retirement from the One Day Internationals.

BCCI tweeted it this morning and now its there on cricinfo as well.

I wish that 49 centuries would have got converted into 50 against Pakistan, but...

cricinfo link
