Re: The Cricket Thread

One thing I noticed today was that of the teams in the Super 10s only India, SL and WI have no leg/wrist spinner, rest of the teams have atleast one.

Goes to show dearth of wrist spinning talent in our country.

There is no real outstanding spinner coming through the ranks, hasn't been for some time now! Our selectors keep going going back to Amit Mishra in Tests & Piyush Chawla is man for all seasons. He somehow finds a place in the team

Re: The Cricket Thread

NZ are running riot! Talk about going from outsiders to contenders in TWO games.

They're adapting better to the conditions than the subcontinental 'home' teams.

Re: The Cricket Thread

With today's win NZ has ensured that out of IND and AUS only one will make it to the SFs.

Well played NZ.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I am 99.99% confident about India's win as off late I have seen PAK team just has some serious mental block against IND when playing in World level tournaments.
At the same time Afridi's stay on crease would be directly proportionate to our chances but I am sure we will tame him.

Well played NZ.
Not really, NZ can still be knocked out and India and Australia can make it with 3 and 2 wins (and a better NRR)

However, it is more or less more likely to be true. We need to win all 3 games, Pak, Aus & BD - we lose any one and we would be clutching straws. We don't need to be so negative about our chances, the team is good - if we have a decent day tomorrow, we will be back on track. Lets hope we bring our A game tomorrow. I also hope the pitch is a good one tomorrow, neither swing or spin, we need a batting track.

And BTW, NZ are my second fav team

Edit: SA openers are toying with England right now

Re: The Cricket Thread

I was thinking that India's best chance to be #2 in the group would be if NZ or Aus win all their matches and top the group. Australia just lost that chance today after losing to NZ who now have the possibility of topping the group with wins in all matches.
But this now means that there will be a very tough fight for the second spot and makes most of the remaining matches of NZ, Pak and India crucial ones, interesting times ahead. If Bangaldesh manages an upset win in between, it will make things even more interesting.

NZ seem to be at 'home', playing so well on our slow, turning tracks when our players are still struggling to come to terms with such pitches.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I was expecting this from a BHPian but the possibility of NZ being knocked out with such a healthy run rate is similar to say me reaching Mars.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a chase !!!
In one group all matches won by team batting first and in other vice versa.

Appears to be so thanks to the rain! I do not know if its a fast drying ground like the one we saw in Bangladesh recently.
In a rain curtailed game, we should play the extra bowler Shami instead of Pandya i feel.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Toss delayed, but there is still hope that we won't lose overs. Lets see. Toss becomes crucial in a match affected by rain.

Pakistan women win by 2 runs (DL)

Re: The Cricket Thread

Apparently overs start reducing from 8:15 pm onwards, don't know what time the pitch inspection will take place.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Finally the match has started. India have made a great decision by deciding to bowl first. Now they need to restrict Pakistan to 140
