Thank you. Sony LIV app is very good. The streaming is very good inspite of an inconsistent wifi in the hotel. Been listening to the commentary as watching on the small screen is very stressful.

What an innings by Smith. Root needed to better it, but failed. Should be an easy victory from here.

Btw, I really like the looks of Handscomb. He could be a long termer in the Aussie 11.

India-SL ? Well nothing much to talk about that. Predictable and, dare I say, boring !

Re: The Cricket Thread

The Ashes test was pretty competitive for 3 days before AUS got on top. Some riveting cricket all round.

The local game, let me just say I actually stepped out to watch the kids indulge in some gully cricket before lunch and it was far more enjoyable.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I am amazed at Jimmy Andersons comments at the eve of the second test match calling the Australians bullies. Why are the English whining like this ? Given up already it seems !

Re: The Cricket Thread

Today's play stopped because Lankans complained about the air pollution in the stadium.
I guess Delhi needs to wake up and do something before it becomes a ghost city.

Re: The Cricket Thread

* Play was stopped for 16 minutes
* 3 bowlers couldn't complete overs nd went inside midway
* Some players wearing masks while playing
All there things were unheard of on a cricket field. So much so that there was nothing in the rule book or such a situation.
All in all, it was a shameful day for India IMO. Although many told that it was overacting on the part of Lankans, the underlying fact is that Delhi has become mire polluted. Banning crackers, odd-even rule or whatever is the measure, if we don't start taking those measures drastically, Delhi will soon be a city out of bounds for humans. Sad!

A bad advertisement for sure. No doubt the larger issue has to be tackled by the administration but on their part BCCI could have altered the venue by applying its mind. Everyone knows there is winter & smog in Delhi during this time of the year. I know there is a rotation policy for venues but Delhi could have been allotted this game in some other month. Similarly in Kolkata it was known that it gets dark very early, they could have started the game 1 hr earlier!
In recent times, day-night ODI's have started at 1:30pm which is 1hr earlier than usual to tackle the dew situation.

I agree. Whether it was overacting or gamesmanship is besides the point. And saying, as some seem to have, that if it was not polluted enough for our players why are yours having a problem is even worse. It is like saying that we are used to living in the filth, so if you want to play here, you better get used to it too. That compounds the shame. And shows the extent to which we tolerate non performance by the government - politicians and bureaucrats both - that we now justify it by saying it is ok for us to play in the filth they have allowed to exist. Is this supposed to be patriotism now?

And we'd be fools to think that Delhi is an exception.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Srilankans are not giving this one away easily. India will definitely have to bat for the second time now. with just another 82 runs to go with 7 wickets in hand, Srilankans will surely avoid the follow on in all probabilities. But if they also manage to chop off the lead completely, then it will most probably be a draw because of less time IMO.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Ashes looking one sided affair. This has 5-0 written all over it. England facing another crushing defeat at Adelaide.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Tests, a majority of them at least, have always been won by the team with a better bowling unit. And Aussies have better bowlers in pace as well as spin departments when compared to England. While Jimmy and Broad are good bowlers, with the pace they are bowling right now, they aren't the dangerous bowlers they were a few years back.

Having said that, England's only hope of getting back into this test and avoiding a loss is taking advantage of the night conditions, which are almost identical to a seaming wicket in England. Just saw Jimmy getting huge swing both in the air and of the deck. Should be interesting session.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I was half expecting Smith to enforce the follow on, given the conditions in the night session.

Yeah, the contest in the series looks to be over. And like Lyon predicted, some careers could be over too. Cook, Broad & Anderson will have to bear the brunt if they fail to perform individually.

What a session of cricket. England did well to get 4 wickets. If only Broad bowled a fuller length they would have had a wicket or more. I don't know why Broad was bowling back of length and wide when he could see that ball was swinging so much. Even Anderson did the same mistake but realised and changed his length. If England can get some early wickets there will be a contest in this test.

Re: The Cricket Thread

IND Vs SL and AUS Vs ENG both tests poised nicely.
India and Australia both will have to bat till tea at least to declare
England and Srilanka will have to bat out 4 sessions to force a draw or fancy a win. If England bowl out Australia in one session tomorrow, they'll have 5 sessions time. Generally day 3 is the "moving day" in a test match. but in both these matches 4th day will make things clear.
