Re: The Cricket Thread

After Rahane and Vihari dismissals, India are 251/5 with Rishabh Pant and Kohli at the crease. Trailing by 75 runs and the last recognised pair, interesting situation.

Edit:Kohli out caught in the slips ? Decision being reviewed

Edit2:Kohli out, close decision that one!

Edit3:Shami out for a duck, now India is really reeling. Given that he now has only tailenders for company, I think Pant will try to bat aggressively and score quick runs to reduce the deficit. It's a gamble that may or may not pay off

I won't be surprised if we are bundled out, giving around 50 runs lead to Australia. If that happens, we can assume we're done with the match.
I guess your prediction will come true

India have 4 number 11 batsmen !!

Yes. And high time team realises that. At least one of the 4 bowlers need to be one who can bat a bit. A 20 odd runs from one of these 4 can help immensely in situations like these, specially with someone like Pant still batting.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Rishabh Pant need more grooming before playing in tests. Even here he is running singles on first or second balls with tailenders at other end.

That's what Steve Waugh did till the end of his career.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Just when I thought Pant was batting well, he gets out to a bad shot.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Let's see how bad the 43 runs lead that India conceded can be for their fortunes in this test

I can't understand why Jadeja wasn't taken, it could prove to be that one single selection gaffe in this match that could cost us dearly.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I'm noticing batsmen throwing their gloves outside the boundary line while walking back to the dressing room. Anyone know why? Is it to dry them out? Discard them? Out of frustration?

Any idea?

Re: The Cricket Thread

India gets a wicket finally but Australia already have a 100+ lead, is this match running away quickly ? 225+ will be very tough to chase down for India

It's a general practice to ensure that gloves are dry once they resume batting after the break.

My guess is Australia's going to add another 100 runs and post a 250-275 target for us. And Nathan Lyon is going to be the key issue over the next 48 hours, if we survive the next 24. I hope Rahul, Vijay and Vihari get this through their heads though. The three middlemen are not going to be able to survive another episode like this.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Only rain or some sort sort of a miracle can save us now!

Another case of selection blunder costing us a match, most probably. Umesh Yadav has been very disappointing with the ball. In the last couple of years, its an open secret that this Indian Team struggles against half decent spinners like Moeen Ali so its not surprising that Lyon is doing so well. He's bowled very tight from 1 end , allowing the seamers to attack from the other. Something which probably Jadeja could have done!

Re: The Cricket Thread

If we restrict the lead to 200-220, and it's unlikely we will, we may have a chance.

Anything above 220 will be a tough ask, considering we carry dead weight like KL Rahul and Murali Vijay in the playing eleven. Pujara, Kohli and Rahane can't be expected to perform every single time.

Australia may get close to 300. Even if they get 260, the lead would cross 300 and that will be enough to seal their victory in my opinion.

As discussed before, the team selection has been baffling. Someone like Jadeja would have made a serious impact if he was selected.

Pant seems to be a little skittish and wrong-footed. He has already dropped more than a few regulation catches. A lengthy conversation with Dhoni may help.

It is, as you said, to dry them out. And while they're at it, they show their frustration as well.
