Forget about Rohit, was just now watching the match & I was shell shocked to see Stuart Binny in the squad, how did he manage to get into the Test team!
Anyways, happy for Saha that he's got a century when the team was in trouble.

When Shikhar and Rohit can be in the Playing 11, it's not at all shocking to see Stuart in the touring squad.

Indian team has now scored 2 centuries in an innings in 3 consecutive matches.

Ashwin and Virat in the 1st match
Rahul and Ajinkya in the 2nd match
Ashwin and Saha in the 3rd match

This must be a record in itself!!

Re: The Cricket Thread

I have been a fan of Pujara, but I can still digest him being dropped for Vijay, but for Rohit Sharma? I mean its a joke!

Rohit Sharma is a great batsman, just not in Tests. We all had hoped he would be, but the temperament is missing. Dhawan is a walking wicket in any form of the game. Whenever he scores, its like we've hit a jackpot. For all WI tactics, they did not attack Saha and Ashwin and let the game slip. I did not watch yesterday, so have no idea how we bowled. The pitch looked slow? Atleast, this was expected to be a better pitch.

India can go on to be the No.1 Test side if we win the series 3-0, I hope we give it a better try. This test looks meandering to a draw.

Re: The Cricket Thread

In line with the discussion above, Government sets up SIT to probe Rohit Sharma’s test selection
Quote:
New Delhi: Giving in to the demand by several cricket fans across India, center Government has approved a three member SIT to probe Rohit Sharma’s test selection. The probe will be monitored by Justice (retd.) Katju and a report will be submitted before the Indian home season begins later this year.

Rohit Sharma, who has scored 4 50+ scores in his last 27 innings, was preferred over Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara for the 3rd test match against West Indies. The decision was criticized by many people and as they feared, Rohit promptly failed in the first innings.

“We have received this request earlier too but we thought it wasn’t important enough to merit an SIT probe. We also assumed that Indian captains will stop playing him in the test team and let him play ODIs and T20s only. However, we were proved wrong as he was yet again in the starting XI even though there were other batting options available. We received tons of requests from irate cricket fans across the nation who wanted us to look into it. Now cricket fans are a huge vote bank and we don’t want to alienate them so we decided to set up this SIT”, a government official said.

This decision has been welcomed by many cricket fans. 22 yrs old Ankur from Delhi said,”Finally we will know why. Why does he play test matches even after showing so many times that he will fail there? Averaging less than Ashwin with the bat after playing 16 tests, that too after averaging 288 after first 2 tests. He has some video tape of selectors, he is friends with someone, he is blackmailing someone, what is the real reason, the nation wants to know.”
PS: Its from satire site.

Note: To get him into playing 11 over a regular test batsman (Pujara), changing the batting position of captain (Kohli) and another regular test batsman (Rahane), speaks volume on the influence of his talent.

Re: The Cricket Thread

3-0 is not going to happen. This current test is going to be a draw as well, that is if we don't collapse in the second innings and lose.

And Kohli is not a test #3 batsman. Ideally Rahane should have batted at 3.

Rohit is a complete hack in tests.

The next test is in Trinidad, which historically has been a flat pitch. But we have managed a couple of wins over there in the past.

It's often discussed on this thread about the Bombay Club which must be having a big hand in Rohit's selection.
Irony is if Pujara plays slow it creates pressure on the remaining batsmen to score quick while if Rohit gets out cheaply it creates pressure on the next batsmen to play defensive.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Indian cricketers have started complaining about commentators & have succeeded as well!

Quote:
Harsha Bhogle's exile from commentary is set to continue. New series, new channel, new production house and new BCCI management not withstanding, there are no chances of his immediate return to the telly for the live India games.

It has been learnt that he has been kept out of the commentary panel for the ensuing India international matches both at home and the US as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken note of the complaints of the Indian players, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in particular.

Wow, what is your take on this guys. Should we shield our players from criticism? I haven't followed the whole Harsha incident, I thought his exclusion t was because of his clash with a BCCI official.

I read somewhere that BCCI pays the commentators, the likes of Gavaskar & Shastri. This i believe is over & above what Star or any other broadcaster pays them.
I don't recollect what exactly the problem with Harsha Bhogle was apart from him criticizing the players which is normal if they don't play well. There was some controversy in that Ind-Ban T20 WC game where his commentary was criticized by Bachchan.

I see no harm in praising the other team on their merit. Sometimes, truth hurts, no point in hiding from the fact.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Lady Luck again seems to be smiling on the Indian Test team when it comes to rankings

Sri Lanka's complete sweep of Australia in the Test Series and Pakistan's results against England have now made India #1 in Tests, again

To retain the #1 spot, India needs to beat West Indies in the last test, else Pakistan may become the next #1 Test team!
