From Cric info:

Alok: "Since 1999, India has won 36 test matches. Most surprisingly Sachin Tendulkar was not man of the match in a single match. It shows he is not a match winning player. On the other hand man of the match award in these winning matches have gone to: Kumble -7, Dravid - 5, Harbhajan - 5, Sehwag - 3, Ganguly - 2, Laxman - 2 and Zaheer Khan - 2."

Cricinfo - Tendulkar ruled out of ODI series

Hope he hangs his boot upon completion of Australian series (subjected to he being selected)

Sri Lanka need 122 runs in 130 overs to win series.
India need 10 wickets in 130 overs to win series.

IMO this was a pathetic batting display by so called great batting order. Why don't they take the coaching of someone like Gavaskar and learn how to play with Bat rather than pad. See the no. of LBW dismissals in the series which clearly suggests the technique is at fault. Is this the effort by the team which calls itself no.2 in world?

Sangakkara s innings could well be the turning point of the series. Obviously we cant take out Mendis . SL deserve to win this one. We were kinda outplayed in 1st and 3rd match.

Sachin is injured and out of the one day matches. Badrinath replaces him.

Again - do you think it is the right time for Sachin to call it a day from test match cricket ? More importantly - will he when he is just about 70 odd euns away from Lara ?

We all know the answer, don't we ? He will not do it. He will play the Australia series, break the record at home. He will then go on to play for another 6 months just to prove that he was not playing for the record ala Kapil Dev.

I think Ganguly might get the boot. And high time that Rohit Sharma / Yuvraj gets a game.

No way. the selectors will want to break the record of Lara. Then as EL had already said, he will go on to play till he wants to call it quits.

He will always not be a "100% match fit" as his injuries is also mounting. . IMO, we better leave this discussions on him as it is.

Ganguly is the biggest liability in Indian team. Hiw attitude and form just doesnt reflects if he is playing for the country. God knows when will selectors show him the door and give chances to youngsters.

With Dalmiya back in CAB, I don't think booting ganguly will be easy.

Dalmiya is only influential in CAB as the BCCI does not likes him at all. So ganguly's exit is on the cards now.

There is a sad problem in Indian cricket and this is not something new - Illustrious cricketers do not retire unless they are shown the door in a rather insulting fashion ! Lets talk about the big 4 in test cricket for India today - Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman. These guys have played big, won many matches for India, broken many a records, earned lots of money - I salute them - but what more do they want man ?

Are they doing us a favour by playing because they think without them Indian cricket will touch rock bottom ? Do you think they are so selfless and foolish ? Why can't these people gracefully step down, plan their retirements and quit when people would say "why did he quit ?" rather than "good riddance !!!" ? No succession planning, making cricketers believe that they are bigger than the game and favoritism will ruin our game - one game that we can be proud of.

I have been a keen follower of cricket all my life and this interest and enthusiasm is almost negligible now because of these same old people everytime. New heroes will never surface if old ones don't want them too.

I hope for the best and wish the seniors a much needed permanent rest !!!

Cheers,

VAP
