re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

Didnt want to add to the rants but couldnt help myself. As many of you have pointed out, we have a strange situation here where the Mayor of a city calls for bandh to harass the populace of the city he is supposed to help.
Why???
Because his boss was slapped by someone in a different city!! Duhh I fail to understand the logic! What was the story again about Andher Nagri Chaupat Raja??!!

We need to get out there and vote during election times and not take the day as a public holiday! Then maybe they'll stop taking us for granted.

re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

Took a walk on the new Yerwada bridge. It is not yet open to traffic, but one can walk across. Since the weather was nice, Mrs. dot suggested to take a slow walk from Bund Garden to the other side. It was quite refreshing. Here are some pics.

The autorickshaw garage stalls have moved from the junction area towards the riverfront side. That should help in reducing the congestion around the signal.

Nicely built, but I still fail to understand the purpose of that bridge.
Is it that, people coming from Wadia college going towards Nagar rd/ Deccan College cant use the old Bund Garden bridge now? If so, then it might be of some use.

Maybe the old bridge is going for renovation? Otherwise the only output is - we are going to get one more signal on the Kirkee - Yerwada route. Anyway I ain't complaining. Any new infrastructure in Pune = good for the city.

People,
My car needs wheel alignment, currently it is angling towards the left. Should I take it to the VW workshop? Or do we have any well-known 3rd party workshop who does a good job on this & hopefully not heavy on the purse too.

Take it to any reputed wheel alignment centre. Should cost rs 250.

Pune has a long way to go in terms of infrastructure. The newly laid concrete road on the kharadi hadapsar bypass is completed till the river, but I don't see any solution for the bottle neck at mudhwa chowk.

re: Pune : Roads, traffic conditions, route queries and other assorted rants

This is what I heard -
1. The old bund garden bridge will be closed
2. The new bridge (the one that is being used for traffic going towards Pune from Nagar road) will be one way with traffic going only from Nagar road to Pune side, the other way round will not be allowed
3. The newer bridge (the one in the pics above) will be used for traffic going towards Nagar road from Pune

There will be circualr traffic on these 2 bridges but I am still wondering if this is going to be practical enough. Fingers crossed and hope it wont make things worst for us daily commuters on this road.

Better get it done from outside in front of your eyes, Darshan Tyres or N Mehta Wheels. Both are equally good. Should cost you around 200-250 bucks. BTW did you hit a pothole offlate since the alignment is distorted?

Err. That's what I need - I don't have info on wheel alignment centers in Pune. Please share

And thanks for the cost info. VW workshop apparantly charges around a bomb for the same. Definitely better to get it done outside.

Thanks. I actually ran over a dead animal (dog I think) on the expressway during one of the night drive(s). The car's been leaning left since then. Couldn't see any other damage.

Ninja, I suppose you stay in or around Aundh, right?
There are a couple of reputed guys who do the wheel alignment work.
Try and find out from someone like noop, Dueller etc. They live in and around Aundh/Baner.

EDIT: If you fancy a drive to Kothrud, lemme know. I know of a guy who's pretty good at it, and dirt cheap too.

I would like to mention about

Anand Tyres, opp to Alfa Laval, Old Mumbai - Pune road.

@ninja: I don't think you will be charged less than Rs. 300 for a VW. It should be around Rs. 300-350 at Darshan Tyres on Nagar Road - but their printer stops working every now and then so you don't get a print out. I would want to avoid that next time.

Thanks guys. Will get it done this weekend. On an aside note, any plans for a tbhp meet? First weekend I have got free time, for quite some time now.
