Re: Mumbai Traffic

Wish there are more traffic cops deployed near the Lotus junction, where the cars take a slight diversion to move onto the Coastal Road. Also, there is just one signage denoting the Coastal Road, on top of that signal and that too not prominent enough. It was pure madness today morning for the rest of us who wished to head straight toward Haji Ali and beyond. If this junction is not manned well, this is going to devolve into sheer chaos during peak hours, defeating the very purpose of the Coastal Road; albeit just the south-bound direction is operational as of now. The real success of the Coastal Road can be measured only once the entire project, in totality, is thrown open to the public. Hope the revised deadline of May 2024 is not pushed further.

Surprisingly did not encounter much traffic at Lotus signal today morning. But there was a 1km long jam on Worli Seaface southbound at Madhav Thackeray Chowk to get onto Coastal Rd which requires you to make a double u-turn, while another 2km long jam on Worli Seaface northbound to accommodate the southbound traffic! It was chaos. Maybe thats the reason timings have been further revised upto 5pm now as its going to be quite a task since in the evening majority of the traffic heads towards the Sealink!

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Had a lovely drive on Sunday. It took about 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete a 65km run.
I started from Kurla Phoenix marketcity, got on the Eastern Express Highway, from there to the Eastern freeway which connected me to the Atal Setu and came back to Wadala.
Absolute bliss !

Re: Deteriorating roads of Maharashtra

For those who don’t know yet about the new traffic nightmare roads thanks to even more construction/repair work undertaken in the city. Took me 90 mins to drive from Borivali to Powai on a Sunday evening

Re: Deteriorating roads of Maharashtra

After spending 27 years of my life in Borivali, I have finally decided to move out of the city for good. The catalyst for this move was a few months I got to spend in Surat, which opened my eyes to what pathetic roads we have in the city.

The lane closure on JVLR is right opposite my office, and it took me 2 hours to reach there from Borivali on Monday morning. I have decided to WFH for the foreseeable future.

The less said about the stalled work of Akurli subway widening, the better. I have not seen a single worker working on this part of the road for a few months, and it always is a 45 min to 1 hour brawl to get through this patch once you get on the WEH at Goregaon/Jogeshwari.

Cheers

Was crawling in 1st gear for about 45mins at around 10am on JVLR towards EEH due to the road work near L&T Powai ! The alternate route suggested by Mumbai Police is SCLR. Just earlier this week it took me 1hr from NESCO to Vakola Flyover! The Janata Subway work on Jogeshwari WEH is another bottleneck with the Traffic Wardens doing a terrible job in adjusting the barricades during off-peak hours. Its going to get worse once the Monsoon starts!

I moved out of Kandivali Thakur Village after spending 22 years of my life there because I just gave up on the Western Express Highway. Driving had just become a torture. I contemplated moving a few times but held back. The inconvenience I had to go through during dads bypass surgery was the final nail in the coffin to move out.

I shudder to think of what happens to patients in a medical emergency. My heart used to go out those in ambulances stuck on the WEH.

While we initially thought of moving to Vile Parle, the parking facilities were a downer even though the apartments were nice.

We finally explored a little further, and finally ended up buying a new home in Sewri. I have to say everything has become just so convenient in terms of commute. Fort, Churchgate is just 15 minutes away and even Bandra is close now. The Sealink has become irrelevant to me.

Overall very happy with our decision. Even the folks are happy.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Did a Mumbai Surat run on this Monday. Started from Vikhroli around 5:45 am and found relatively less traffic on Ghodbunder road except the truant truckers who hog both lanes while on Ghodbunder. From Fountain, the roads are quite bad as concretization is going on. Zero markings of diversions or guidance on which lanes to take. Some lanes are concretized and have a 1 feet of difference with the other lane. This is quite dangerous as one needs to have good visibility and judgement to stay in a single lane. Overtaking or even passing trucks (wide vehicles) is extremely risky as the heavy vehicles don't want to go close to the edge. Some barriers are fallen on the road and it's extremely dangerous to sedans. I'd recommend avoiding driving during low visibility as it's seriously accident prone.

Almost all mini ramps to the high concretized roads are extremely steep and the car needs to be slowed down to almost 10kmph or slower to get on those. One can easily have a bad experience if they're going at speed.

Overall quite horrible and I hope that they finish the work sooner as I dread to imagine what will happen when there's heavy monsoons.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Almost every pincode in the city has large portions dug-up and infra projects in full swing. Already there is so much chaos during peak hours. Suffice to say that the upcoming monsoon is sure to be a disastrous affair!

1,500 cars and 2,700 two-wheelers registered in Mumbai on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya yesterday. The density of vehicles in Mumbai has crossed 2,300 vehicles per k.m.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

It is increasing becoming painful to drive in Bombay. Apart from the issues such as road manners (which are not just isolated to Bombay), potholes, crumbling roads and law enforcement are the biggest issues. I live in Wadala and driving in and out of Wadala feels like a video game set up wherein the challenge is to drive at a constant speed. Speed breakers are just shy of mountain/peaks. They have recently done a 'touch up' wherein they repair the potholes and but haven't re-tarred the whole road even if the road was/is full of potholes, this has resulted in an uneven road with a higher height than earlier. The only respite for now is that the road is slightly smoother than earlier, but still not good. But these repairs may last until Monsoon or may give up before that because the road is used to ferry material from the port, Metro's construction factory where they make the big panels and also for GST bhawan. All the truck that carry the material are overweight damaging the road.

2 weeks back I was returning from office and there was a police car behind me, I was waiting at a traffic signal since it was red, our law enforcement buddies honked me way out, it wasn't as if there in any emergency since they drove off and continued to drive at a normal speed after jumping the signal. How are these people supposed to enforce the law.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

There is supposed to be closure of certain roads in and around Ghatkopar area due to the rally / roadshow called upon by the Indian PM.

https://www.freepressjournal.in/mumb...0on%20May%2015.

LBS marg will be closed from 2 pm to 10 pm: I wonder how people will do since LBS marg is the only entrance / exit for many areas west of the central line!

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Mumbai's Sion overbridge to be closed for 2 years from today. In BMC terms 2 yrs means 4-5 years at least.

It took me 1 hour to commute to work today which normally takes 12-15 minutes.
