Muggle world has to contend with boring considerations of physics and geography.

I am assuming that a ramp, semicircle in nature, will have to be built that allows the metro line to make a turn and climb to the height of the elevated line. Now I have already mentioned that I am not an expert, but I would assume this ramp will have a large arc, maybe a kilometre in length, that will have to be built through Aarey Milk colony. Wouldn't this be the same stretch of land as the one being disputed?
That is exactly true. Indeed, the MM3 line will yet need to go thru a part of Aarey Colony to rise and join with MM6 (or go parallel with it), if the depot is shifted to Kanjurmarg. This is shown in the third figure at https://themetrorailguy.com/2020/10/...to-kanjurmarg/ , which I cited in my earlier post a few days ago (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/stree...ml#post5217401 (Mumbai Traffic))

The number of new private cars, including SUVs, registered in Mumbai in 2021 saw a 13% jump over the pre-Covid time (2019) and 47% more than last year, 2020.

56,689 cars/SUVs were registered this year at the four city RTOs between January 1 and December 26, the number of new car registrations in Mumbai in 2020 was 38,592 compared to 50,002 new private car registrations in 2019.

In all, 1,95,109 vehicles were registered in Mumbai this year compared to 1,64,483 in 2020 and 2,57,386 in 2019.

In the case of private cars, Tardeo RTO in island city had maximum registrations in 2021, with 15,195 new cars hitting the roads. This was followed by Borivli RTO in western suburbs witnessing 14,659 new car registrations. This does not include suburban RTO numbers which if you include - will be an almost equal number I believe. Wait for 2022 to begin and we will see a lot more registrations for sure. Perhaps equaling 2019 numbers, if not better.

This whole overhyped used car market will see some correction in 2022 I hope.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Travelled today from Borivali to Airoli via JVLR and the Mulund Airoli bridge and reached in flat 1 hour which is very unusual as I used to travel to office and it would take min 2 hours.

On returning, I took the Ghodbunder road and the timings were similar. May be I am travelling after lot of time so not sure but wasn't there a toll plaza just ahead of Fountain Hotel towards Thane on Ghodbunder road? I remember my bus driver always paying toll there. Not sure if the toll was being collected for cars or not.

Travelled via Uber / Ola both ways.

Princess Street flyover descending onto Marine Drive has been shut for a couple of months. For those who use that area of the city, just FYI.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

I guess due to WFH there is a considerable reduction in traffic since the past 10 days. My daily route is from the Western Suburbs to South Mumbai during peak hours & as per MID I have on some occasions managed to get mileage of almost 20kmpl which has left me completely astonished! Have been reaching office in record time off late. Have never really seen mileage go above 15-16kmpl in all these years.

Missed taking that one last drive via that flyover last week and took a shorter route instead. That flyover was one of my favorite places to drive including the one during monsoons. Used to slow down on the left most lane to enjoy view.

Hoping the new flyovers justify the old one.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Heads up members.
Lower Parel (the section around Phoenix Towers / Mall) has suddenly become a nightmare the last few days. At the Peninsula Business Park / Corporate signal, the road going towards Phoenix Mall (under the flyover) has been shut. The result is crazy evening traffic towards Elphinstone bridge and at the signal near Elphinstone bridge (/One World Center) when offices shut.

I asked someone who lives there and they mentioned some road laying works are going on in that section. I really hope they finish it in a couple of days and not longer. Lower Parel is unbearable with these closures. I plan to work from home today and tomorrow if possible. No way I’m suffering that nonsense if I can help it.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

I don't know how exactly the traffic is going to be routed from this tweet but it is going to cause major misery I'm sure to residents who cross east to west. This while the Bharat mata bridge has not yet opened and the road in front of Phoenix towers

Death by a thousand cuts is the phrase I believe.

Just wonder what monsoons will further do to beyond what they already do to that place, my condolences

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Needless to say these are all important projects and will transform traffic movement for the better in the long term. But the prospect of multiple interconnecting bridges being simultaneously under controlled traffic is just exhausting. Specially for those who commute between East to West on a daily basis.

Don't disagree, the "simultaneously" part is the issue though. When in the 90s, flyovers were being constructed in parallel on the Western Highway, it used to be a huge mess.

The current metro construction is better, for each route, parts are being picked up and worked on before next set of parts are picked up. It still creates jams which are unavoidable but there's still some thought given on how to build it.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Not related to traffic itself, but looks like the new Commissioner of Mumbai is getting all those rusting & unofficially scrapped vehicles lying around the city and below flyovers, moved out. Mumbai will look a little better with that.

Re: Mumbai Traffic

Hi, I will be relocating to Mumbai in next few months (Chakala, Andheri) and already know the traffic woes from my colleagues in Mumbai. Good news is my office has a metro station nearby, so I am looking to find a house which allows me to utilize that.

However wanted to understand that for short distances (less than 10 km), does it makes sense to use a bike versus a car? I currently have an Innova Crysta and as thinking I buy and use a bike for commute.

Any thoughts?
