Not really Sir. It depends on personal choice. Definitely people get photographed all the time but I for one wouldn’t want my photo posted like this on public forum without my consent( doesn’t matter if someone would notice it or not). So it was a good decision to blur the pictures.

PS-Mods can remove this post if this feels off-topic.

what is this flyover for at Rajasthan desert

I came across this flyover near barmer, RJ on NH 925 while updating the map on google road mapper.

This is not a busy area and no cross roads near by. I dont think the traffic density will be high in this area. I am curious to know what is the purpose of this flyover?

There's a school next to the farm.

This video was posted in X on the Times Now handle, three days ago. Landslides have affected vehicle movement in Uttarkhand in this sector. Stuck in the traffic, a group of tourists from Gujarat keep the mood alive by performing Garba.

Re: Unusual / funny / heartwarming experiences on the road

Not sure if this is the right thread. But this was a funny and heartwarming incident for me.
After riding scooters for close to 15 years (Wego, Jupiter, Aprilia, NTorq, Scooty Pep), it was only last week that I realised that all scooters have push to cancel turn indicators. I was under the impression that only NTorq had it.

The Weird Experience Thread

I didn’t know where to slot this - so after browsing a few pages decided to create this. Mods can change it if desired.

Last night, I was coming back from dinner at the club with my wife and kids. Right outside Arthur Road Jail, I heard a weird sound and the car didn’t seem to drive properly. I wanted to pull over but was in the right lane and would have blocked traffic and inadvertently received some choicest abuses. I slowed down at the red signal. A biker came up to me indicating that his helmet was stuck in the undercarriage of my car. I don’t know what he was thinking - but after indicating this to me - he seemed terrified, took a u-turn and zoomed off.

I took the car up the railway bridge and parked it on the side. My younger kid started crying. While the streets in Bombay are well lit, I still needed some light - so used a cell phone light. Sure enough - bang in the centre of the front seats was a helmet. My wife asked if I could get a stick from somewhere. I remembered I had a tennis kit in the boot. I went to fetch a racquet but saw there was also a cricket bat - seemed a more reasonably approach than damaging a tennis racquet. I started hitting the helmet to get it out. It moved but no luck. Took the car a few metres in front to see if it gets crushed or lost on the road - no luck either. Then I got frustrated and hit it even harder - managed to move it very close to the wheel and now my hand could reach. Some good samaritans saw me struggle and helped me - 3 of us lifted the front of the car and one guy pulled out the helmet. Younger daughter asked me if Hanumanji came to help.

Solid helmet though. Crappy incident too. Something never anticipated or expected.

Re: The Weird Experience Thread

Indeed very strange. I am surprised that the helmet was stuck but your car kept moving. Do you have any pics to share? I just hope it was not any roadside scam where you pull over and one good Samaritan comes to help but charges for something without us even knowing. Can you also share your car make/model please?

Re: The Weird Experience Thread

I too initially thought it may be a scam. But given the heavy cop presence outside the jail, I doubt it. The guy really seemed concerned about retrieving his helmet and then really seemed scared that I would probably give him more than an earful. So he bounced. The guys helping me were just crossing the road - no one charged me anything. I was driving an SCross. The car kept moving - but with an extremely annoying sound and whilst driving I could feel something wrong - can’t really describe it in words. I didn’t have the presence of mind to take pics - just wanted to get home. I can’t rule out that it could be some sort of scam. I do have a 7 year old dash cam which works. But it’s not as if I hit any bike or pedestrian or even brushed one.

Re: Unusual / funny / heartwarming experiences on the road

Similar happened around 20 years ago when we had bought the Santro Xing. We were driving to a relative's place & right in front of me was 3 wheeler goods carriage (those green types). It was carrying silencers of Chetak type scooters. One of the silencers fell off & it got struck under my car's chassis. As my car was moving, the friction of the silencer was spraying sparkles of fire. Bystanders & fellow driver started pointing, & I soon parked vehicle on side of road trying to retrieve the silencer out. As soon I touched the same, it was burning hot & I pulled my hand back. Then a bystander helped with a fat branch tree & with some effort the culprit part was removed. Thankfully there was no damage & the car served me for more than a decade.

As usual the goods carriage was nowhere to be seen, oblivious of the commotion had occurred from an item falling off from his load.

Re: Unusual / funny / heartwarming experiences on the road

Villagers in Karnataka has the habit of drying sesame and other grains on the road. They spread the whole plants on the road, I guess it gets dried and the grains gets separated while vehicles drive over them. I had a brand new Ford ikon and was driving to Mekhadattu near Bangalore. We drove over some sesame bunch and car started losing power after few hundred meters and came to a standstill in sometime. There was bunch of sesame plants along with the rag sack that got stuck under the wheel arch. The farmer owner came running in few minutes desperately looking for his harvest. Together we pulled out the plants, paid him few hundreds to compensate for the damage and we were good to go.

Re: Unusual / funny / heartwarming experiences on the road

I have a problem with the horn in my Gypsy - there is a triangular, two layered metal patti inside the horn pad which enables the horn circuit to complete, and thus triggers the horn. This patti is broken, and I have been managing with a jugaad.

However, the horn started acting up today, intermittently sounding the horn. The first few times it happened, it stopped by itself.

I was returning in peak Sunday evening traffic, and driving in the right lane since I needed to turn right. And it happened again, and no sign of stopping. I slowed down to a stop and tried to switch on the hazards to indicate to the cars behind me that I have a problem, but fumbled a bit.

There was a Fortuner 2-3 cars ahead of me in the middle lane. He stopped, put out his hand to wave. He then moved to the right lane and stopped, and came over. I pulled up behind him and opened the bonnet. He quickly helped me disconnect the horn, and after a quick thank you, he went away. So thankful to him for stopping and helping me at that moment.

While it is easy to understand the noble intentions behind compensating such people, it would be good to see the larger picture.

They might likely take this as a precedent and start extorting money from others who get into similar situations. Placing all this stuff on a public road is probably illegal to start with, and might cause damage to vehicles.

Re: Unusual / funny / heartwarming experiences on the road

I do not sit around here, normally. I take a brisk walk for 20 minutes and go home.

But today I chose to sit for a while and admire the seas overlooking the coastal w.i.p. But what do I get to see ?

This is neither funny, nor unusual (atleast not in our country) and definitely not heartwarming. It is in fact heartbreaking.

A gent parks his vehicle on the road, gets out with his grandson (probably) for a nature's call in full public view.

This coming from a well heeled individual, owning an Innova, with a special number plate to boot. I have the pics. He is probably a SoBo resident.

He had atleast three options.

1. The yellow wall in the background is a public toilet. He ought to have known this if he is a regular on this route.

2. He could have gone near the rocks not very far and be away from the public glare.

3. Heck, he could have asked his grandson to pee inside his vehicle and sent the vehicle for a deep clean.

What use this education. God save my country.

Most likely he is a small farmer who has grown a small quantity of that grain, and cannot afford the cost of mechanised threshers. While there are people out there who are waiting to con, this is often not the case with such people.

Running over the cobs does not damage vehicles. One way is to take only one set your car's wheels on the edge of the spread (the other off the opp shoulder. And definitely go slow. The heavy vehicles will take care of more of the spread of the cobs since they cant avoid this as much as cars
