I too had seen a car sometime(a couple of years or more) back down here in Mumbai with white on black fonts. At that time, I thought it might be some special case of registration. Was not addicted here then.

Is it anyhow possible to get one? No no, I am not willing to get one, but just asking. Which plate printers do this knowing this is illegal.

i don't think it matters to the people who make these plates whether its legal or not; for them its just good business. here you'll find number plates in Kannada too!

one thing i've noticed in Bangalore is many AP registered vehicles with copper/gold numbering on black plate. i asked one of my friends who's from AP and he said if one is a politician and/or an important/powerful figure one can have such a number plate. is this true? i've seen techies driving around in such cars. anyone knows?

Today's Malayala Manorama is reporting that one "big boss", KL-01-BK-6055 has been caught by RTO officials and has been charged with road tax evasion. So one down, many thousand more to go. :-)

In a follow-up report today, Malayala Manorama says this chap was fined Rs. 4000. That must have hurt! :-)

I saw many many such examples in Hyderabad. Including one in my company's parking lot. Mostly you would find these on SUVs. You can see the facebook page of HTP where many such violations were fined based on the user uploaded pics.

While it maybe a trend or the 'in-thing' to get this done, it certainly isn't backed by law. If anything, these cars appear commercial - very similar to Yellow on black plates - used mostly by hotels or self drive taxis.

Dear Mate, In mumbai i have come across n-number of examples of illegal number plate in terms of fonts

Example: 214 can be written as राम in hindi number
4141 can be written as दादा in hindi number
8055 as BOSS is too common.

MH-12 is Pune registration and 3456 is the number after the letters. This is the only way he can get all six digits consecutively. It's pretty attractive you have to admit. But illegal.

Hello All,

Now-a-days I am spotting too many number plates in Mumbai with a new political party's flag & registration number written to look as the party leader's first name added with 'saheb'.

I am not getting into political discussion here, but I understand that this is illegal & strictly not allowed. But I always wonder how come these escape the hands of law.

Similarly there are too many number plates where the last 4 digits are written in a way to look as Raja, Dada, Sai, Baba, etc. Somehow I do not understand the pleasure people get getting fancy number plates on their vehicles.
