I'm not sure if this the same bike an acquaintance used to own, back in the late 90s. I've not seen the bike, but I was told it was a Kwacker 7r.

This is not an Import. These were made and assembled here I belive in collaboration with Kavasaki or something.
A Friend of mine used to have one of these years ago. Its Huge and has massive road presence, and I used to be sht scared of sitting behind him, as I used to Slide off the damn back end.

If I'm not mistaken, these were for like 5 lakhs back in the 90s right?

Grey market bikes can be from any market, not just the UK. I have a friend who has an '07 from the US market.

And for the colour difference in the '07 and '08 that you have mentioned above, that's wrong. Here's a picture of my friends '07 (December '07) that he picked up in March from the showroom here. Its the last black R1 that Yamaha had left for Bombay and at the time they had one other black one in Delhi as well. Akhil's (rossiter) bike is also a September '07. My friends bike that just got sold and was in the classifieds is also a September '07. So, if the last R1's they sold were '07's, do you think they would sell '08's before that?
brother if you see previous years bikes the year of manufacture will be a year before what is the model year is. not only yamaha but even with all the other companies the same thing happens. And we are not so foolish to pay 12 Lakhs for a 1 Year old bike, even if it is not run a single kilometre. Lastly even if you are right please do me a favour, please post pics of the 2007 and 2008 YZF-R1 and mention the changes. 2008 Yamaha YZF-R1 Photo Gallery Detail http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/photog...s/ATL_5281.jpg have a look at this link brother.

Tiny SBKs.

What's the matter with these new crop of bikes, CBR, R1, ZXR, GSX? They all look so small. No road presence at all. They look almost same size as Karizma, CBZ, TVS RTR etc. Also with so many Karizmas/Pulsars turned into fake R1s and CBRs, it is sometimes difficult to tell the genuine apart from the fakes. I think in their quest to shed weight, these bikes have become too small. Only exception seems to be Hayabusa and ZZR 1400 which are really massive. When I save up enough moolah, I have to look out for one of these two.

yup, all the official bikes were mostly 12/07 manufacture, but afaik, didnt yamaha market them as the 08 edition r1's?

dude, with the exception of the gsx (and to a extent the cbr), all the bikes you have mentioned are huge! and as far as road presence is concerned, when a 06 cbr and a 07 gsx can draw tons of attention on vizag's beach road, then so can most of the other bikes!

the zx10r esp and the r1 do have tons of street presence imo, and unless until a person is about 6'2"-6'3, (then his obiv choices would be the busa or the mt-01) the regular set of sbks should be more than enough.

aadix, may be you are right. But that is my personal opinion. You don't have to agree with that and you haven't. Yes, among these 4, ZXR and R1 fare somewhat better. But all these still look like 60-70% of a Busa or a ZZR 1400. As for Vizag beach, even a modified Pulsar gets attention here. This city is starved of SBKs unlike B'lore/Pune. Sure, a bike enthusiast can easily spot a CBR or a GSX but even a layman can spot a Busa or a ZZR1400. May be people do not like these two bikes much but I do. What to do? And yes, by the way, I heard a guy say he sometimes finds it tough telling R1 apart from R15 from a distance. And, no this guy is a not a 50 year old man but a 21 year old kid who dabbles in motorcycles.
