Also some updated on the issues i was facing
1. The left wiper had left a deep impression on the glass. In the service the glass has been replaced and a new designed wipers (as per Rm) have been provided
2. Break pads were changed, since then have not heard any break noise
3. Front right side windows used to rattle when half opened. The motor was changed and glass feels better now without any noise
Thanks to my manager Mr Khalid at the Bhasin motors mathura road delhi, who had has his fair share of scoldings from me, the car feels far better now |

Why don't you take up the matter with M&M customer service requesting that in view of less running of the car your 2nd service should be deferred without affecting warranty? Logical requests like this may not be turned down by M&M. |
I have just given my XUV for second service (10000 km). The RM told they will not be changing oil in this service, only wheel rotation / alignment etc. Oil change was done at 5000 and now will be done at 20000, I think.

For the dipper, I was suggested to go in for HIDs, and boy did that make a difference!
The difference is stark and the roads are bright and sunny again!
I'm still wondering what to do about the fog lamps though. It's not really worth putting in another 8-10k for the fog lamps. And I don't think just upsizing the bulbs is goinng to help either. Any other solutions? |
I have a question: Is HID use legal? Can a cop fine me for using HID?
Other than this, some update on the past issues:
1. Brakes noise: I had got brakes noise within 200km of driving after I got my vehicle. Pads were changed. But the noise came back again within 300km of driving. This time, both discs and pads were changed. The noise took longer to come back about 1000 km of driving. Then pads were changed to new ones (I am not sure 2 / 3 generation). Now the noise took many thousand km to come back, but
come back it did. Now I have told my RM to change both disc and pad. May be he will and the noise will be gone for now. But now I am worried that this will basically continue till the warranty runs out. And then????? I will have to get the brake pads changed regularly AT MY OWN EXPENSE? That's scary. I just don't know whether Mahindra will be able to provide a permanent fix or not!
2. Passenger wiper making marks on the wind screen: Have reported this to RM and told him I want to see both wind screen and wipers in good condition when the vehicle is returned from service. Let's see!
3. Jerky acceleration between 1500 to 1800 rpm band, more pronounced in 2 and 3 gear. This does not happen all the time, but does happen often and the frequency of occurrence has been increasing with time. I had not been able to demonstrate this problem last time when I went to the service center. I have reported it again now. Let's see if it gets reproduced this time. To me it appears to be a problem with the control system of the turbo by-pass valve. It is oscillating under certain conditions (the system is not able to settle down at one value - It decides to open the valve, opens it too much, then tries to close it, closes it too far ..... and the cycle just goes on). It is a classic problem of poor calibration of a closed loop control system, technically called the "PID" control loop. But I have a doubt whether I will be able to demonstrate it to the technician, and if so, whether he will be able to understand the issue!
There have been other minor issues like 3 times in the 8 months of ownership, the A/C turned on by itself. All three times this happened around the same spot. The "Auto" button was off, A/C was off, only fan was running. And all of a sudden, the A/C turned on by itself. I suspect that some high-tension wires around that spot have something to do with it (Electromagnetic Interference).
Also, the CD mechanism is very poor quality. Many times the CD got stuck simply when I accelerated hard in 2 gear on a smooth highway! I am now mostly using the USB, which is working fine for me.
I am also now constantly worried about the clutch failure. Mine is Jan 2012 make. The thing is, I will always be worried now taking my family on a long trip.
But so far I am overall happy with my choice. I picked W6 precisely because I was expecting issues with electronics gadgets and I was prepared for that. Brakes noise is the only serious grouse I have. I think as many people commented earlier, if you have 8 lakh more to spend for quality, you can go for fortuner. But otherwise, there is hardly any better choice in this price segment.
