re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Lately, a couple of issues have cropped up. Odo of my car stands at 23k kms.

1. There is some sound from the rear when the rear suspension is compressed. Eg. when going over speed humps, when the rear suspension is compressed while exiting the speed hump, there is a grinding sort of noise. Hope the rear shocks have not gone kaput!

2. There is creaking noise from near the front windshield on both the driver and passenger side. However, this is intermittent and not present always. This has started since the cold has set in Delhi. Do lower temperatures have anything to do with this?

3. The rear mudflap has again detached from its cladding at the side. This is the second time this is happening. Already changed once. Poor quality of mudflap plastic by Mahindra.

4. This is a recurring issue present since day one. Brake Squealing noise which somehow just does not disappear. I mention it to my RM at Koncept Mahindra, Mathura Road at every service but no permanent solution is proposed. They used a (supposedly new) calliper grease during the last service but the noise just reappeared in a couple of days once the grease wore off. Just to mention my car has the latest version of the brake pads from Mahindra and is a July 2013 model.

I have a ~1300 Km trip planned in this month so would visit the ASC before that. Would appreciate of any one else is facing these issues and is willing to shed some light on the fixes so that I have some ammo for my ASC visit.

Rest all things are rosy and am thoroughly enjoying driving this beast everyday.

Hi, I too had faced an issue of infotainment switching off on its own and coming back on. The service center replaced the unit (they call it the silver box). You may want to check with the service center.

When the issue occurs the blower fan runs at normal speed and AC indicator will be showing as ON.

Without doing anything special the cooling will start working. When it is cooling, it is able to cool really well, so I don't think this is a due to a gas leak. Planning to take it to service canter tomorrow. Anyone else faced same problem?

Thanks

Issue identified as the evaporator coil leak. They have replaced the evaporator under warranty. I have insisted on atleast 2 days pressure testing before taking the vehicle back. Since the whole dashboard assembly was moved out, installed the rodent net on the blower intake manifold.

Also another issue found is violent jerk / shredding in reverse gear. As per my conversions this seem to be a problem with the clutch pad material. They will be looking into it today.

thanks

Yes, got that replaced at Koncept Mathura Road. The GPS works now and I havent faced an issue of the ICE re-starting ever since.

@Sisu mine too has these two problems.

Regarding windshield creaking noise, that seems to have started as it started to get colder. But I am not too sure about it.
And there does seem to be a small squealing noise on the brakes as well. Mine has done 12K on the odo.

Going to take the car to the service centre next week. Will post back once everything is resolved.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Folks who are having front suspension noise : There is a service action, to replace the front studs mounting with a new design / material. In my vehicle it got replaced yesterday and the vehicle has become noticably silent over broken patches. The khat khat noise is gone for now atleast. I guess M&M is doing this work during regular service without much media / public attention. People having issues with suspension noise would need to check with RM for a replacement. Good luck.

Hi HCP,

Thanks for the update. Do you have a part no for the replaced/new part? or perhaps a picture? I am visiting the ASC tomorrow so would be easier for me to explain to my RM.

Thanks!

I don't have a part no. The only part visible from outside is the study top capping which is a different shape than earlier version. I will try to get a pic.

Thanks

I see that you are from Bangalore. Which service center did you get this done? My RM does not know about it.

Hi HCP,

Do you have a picture? My RM also is not aware of this service action.

FOr the first time in my 2.5 yrs of ownership, my infotainment system restarted while driving. I was using the maps at the point of time. I heard a boom and the IS switched back ON. Just got scared and distracted for a brief moment. As I was driving in the night on the crowded narrow highway of Kerala, thought some one bumped the car from the back.

Yes, its quite a loud boom from the speakers. It caught me unawares a couple of times. No particular pattern in terms of when the system reboots.

I understand the system rebooting, may be because of software complexity. I do not understand why the speakers give such a loud boom when that happens.

Hello folks, I have recently noticed noise while turning the steering wheel. More squealing kind than squeaking. It is intermittent but happens only when I slow down to negotiate a turn- mostly left turns I guess. I had noticed this first time while backing the car to park. I did speak with the RM but haven't been able to visit the service centre yet. Will post an update once I do.

Cheers, Jay
