Hi all,

Recently tried acetone in my freinds new indigo petrol.....and the result was wonderful....car moved a lot more smoother.....it seems to improve bhp hence we dont get load of A/C.......also as per his report he got better mileage in the tune of 10%........with reduced exhuast sound....

I think this stuff works to improve combustion....hence better throttle response......I too was so much hesitating but when I went deep into the subject....I thought to try it....after understanding all ill effect of using acetone.....I convinced myself that even though if we dont use such stuff......we unknowingly damage our car in many ways...we drive rash in the name of performance harming the engine in much more magnitude....we try different types of additives...to improve performance without knowing and so on....all such we do bcz its being sold at shops.....anything done by ourself creates a kind of uncertainty in our mind.....our individual experience says much more......

Enjoy...............

Read all the for and against opinions in this Great Acetone debate. It was quite interesting to note the strong viewpoints from both the sides. As for me, my personal experience has been a bit mixed. Mine is a 1998 Tata Safari in a very pristine condition. I have started adding Acetone in the diesel tank (1.5 ml per litre). While without AC the purring is lot silent, accelaration is very smooth n quik, I haven't checked on the FE. With the AC on, the initial pik-up is sluggish and I believe it is true to all Safaris, past & present. The emission (black smoke) has reduced and whether it conforms to the PUC standard is what I have to check on the next due date. It has always been a struggle to get a PUC..!

I am scheduled to drive to Mumbai from Gurgaon (that is where I live) and back this month and will get a very clear picture of the FE. Till then keep posting your opinions.

I use it in my Tata Safari of 1998 vintage...In those days the Safari used to come in only one version - the diesel version.

Boy, when I added acetone to my Karizma, the headlights brightened, the brakes worked better and the paint actually gleamed!
Seriously however, I noticed Zilch on the engine front.

The alleged magical qualities of acetone as a fuel additive reminds me strongly of the fiasco involving Ramar Pillay and his "herbal fuel". It seems to me that the acetone believers are showing a similar faith in their magic formula as did Ramar Pillay's supporters.

And to those who would like to add acetone to diesel - please read the links posted earlier in this thread:

http://www.fuelsaving.info/acetone.htm
http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directo..._Fuel_Additive

There are apparently additional risks involved in the case of diesel.
Regards, rks

Did you actually clean your bike with Acetone or add it to the fuel.
