As I plan to replace it with an Amaron, I need your inputs on a good dealer here in Bangalore where I can change it. Have seen a few Exide shops stock Amaron, but the boxes were faded which meant they had old stock and hence I steered clear of them.

Need your inputs on where I can find a good dealer in Bangalore for Amaron.

Thanks in advance,

Has that dealer changed his primary sales to some other brand.
usually such stuff is said when they try to sell a more profit/commission yielding brands.

Edit: I strongly recommend Amaron. Ding Dong

Tata Green is untested. Go for Amaron or Exide. Amaron is the favourite here on TBHP. Exide rocks for me. Remember that extended warranties which are pro-rata only add to the cost

A battery generally lasts 2-3 years (4 if you are really lucky) in Indian driving conditions provided your car's electrical system is upto scratch. So get the alternator checked when replacing the battery and at regular intervals thereafter.

I currently have Amaron on all my cars except the Padmini and they are really good ! Regarding their service, I had a problem around 2 years ago in the battery on my 800 with one of the cells and the battery was immediately replaced by the dealer under warranty.

Amaron without a doubt, I had Amaron in my conty, and I still remember the time I started the car after having left it idle for 3 months. That too on a cold winter morning, the battery never, ever gave up on me.

Amaron is good. I wouldn't belive the dealer. Though Amaron is good, its a bit pricy. Base Terminal/Panasonic is both good and cheaper. I was just quoted Rs. 2,600. for my Esteem's battery. Warranty is for 50 months (including pro-rata discount). There is a cheaper and pricier version too.

Tata is too new to comment on as mentioned above. But with Yuasa's backing, I'd expect them to be good too.

Just stay far away from Exide and you can't go terribly wrong.

I'd expect a good car battery to last nothing less than 4.5 years in the very least (provided of course that you maintain it as it should be). Ditto for bike batterys... in fact if its on a non ES bike, it should be even longer. The longest a battery has lasted me was 7 years.

That's really a long time. Which brand was it?

^^^ Yup. It was an Amco Yuasa.

Well, don't head off to the battery shop to get an Amco now. Its only Amco and no longer Amco Yuasa. The collobaration has ceased.... and it seems the quality is no longer what it used to be.

I have an Amco OEM on my new CBZ-X and its BAD... just like Exide! In short, just don't go for it.

Btw, Yuasa is now with Tata Green.

Very interesting. This must have been in the 1990's, I presume? I do remember the brand, but never used it for any of my vehicles.

As for Exide, I've not had problems with them and yes, this thread contains mixed reviews of the brand. Yup, Yuasa has collaborated with Tata Green. However, I don't think their quality is what it used to be.

Hmm... between the 1990s and 2000s, I guess.

Exide - mixed reviews, but definitely most of them are negative; as I'm sure you have noticed yourself. Its one of my most hated brand. It just makes me boil and spew H2SO4 when I even hear that name...

I'd could trust a cheap local battery more than an Exide.

I've never had problems with Exide though. Touchwood!

I had the Exide as OEM on my Getz right from the day of delivery. The battery lasted for 4.5 years/35,000 kms.

I went for Amaron Pro MF sealed battery as a replacement, mainly because I read a lot of negative reviews on the Exide.

Even my dad (old school!) was not able to understand why I am vehemently against Exide. His simple argument was - if its so bad, how come so many car makers choose it as an OEM?

Absolutely. Exide has a market share of 70% in the OEM space. Possibly for a variety of reasons including costs. But if Exide's workmanship was as shoddy as many claim it is, then the market share would have reduced steeply year on year. I dont see that happening but note their sales increasing.

My experience with Exide has been good since 1990 (almost 20 years). My car came with an OEM Exide Freedom. So far no issues in 9 months. Let me see how long this one goes.
