I am not very happy with the facilities at the place where I serviced this. They don't even have a hydraulic lift for God's sake! So you're saying it's good to stay away from authorized service centres
The cost of suspension overhaul will be around Rs 30k.
You can buy the parts yourself from MGP outlet.
Coming to technician's, a competent FNG for Maruti is not difficult to find.
Yes, stay away from authorised service unless the said service centre is very customer centric.

I suggest stick to a authorized showroom for diagnosis and then get the work done elsewhere. The problem with FNGs is that their competency at diagnosis ia really poor mostly. Which results in your situation. 30K bill with hygiene things not in place. They must have done a ton of things which were unnecessary.

An easy way to fix the ride is to go for low profile tyres. Swift has fairly high profile tyres for the stock car. My car has low profile tyres and the handling is as good as my Civic if not better.

A COMPETENT FNG will not present the aforesaid problems.
Takes time to scout for one. But,worth the effort.

The stock ride quality on a swift is good enough for most scenarios. Ideal tyre upgrade suggested for Swift ZXI on this forum is 185/70/R14. I am on this setup and this works beautifully. If it is an absolute necessity, only then lower profile tyres are preferable.

Re: Maintain the car yourself. A service checklist

It would help a lot if members of the forums can contribute images and create a tutorial with visual helps. NOOBs like me don't know how to identify many parts listed here.

All Maruti cars come with a user manual, which has a detailed maintenance schedule for 100K km. It is a detailed table at 5,000 km intervals, recommending what is to be done.

So here is the PMS Schedule for the Ciaz that you can refer to and ensure to replace all that falls into the 40,000 service (R). Rest of the elements you can check by yourself and ask to attend based on needs/complaints although the service center is obliged to carry out all the tasks associated with the 40,000 Kms service.

Maintain the car yourself. A service checklist-pms_ciaz.jpg
(Refer Section 7 in your owner's manual)

Basically 10,000 Intervals (Except the initial 5,000 kms).

Re: Maintain the car yourself. A service checklist

My 2010 Alto is due for 40K service shortly, another 500 kms. All my services have been done at Surakshaa, Bommanahalli, until now. The car has absolutely no issues. I am planning the below things for the service and would like to have your opinions about it, like if everything is really required or some of them are an overkill, and if anything has been missed. FYI, my 20k service was done at 18k, 4+ years back.

1. Engine oil/oil filter change. Changed at 35k. I know it is a must!
2. Gear oil change. Done at 18K. I will go ahead with it. Opinions welcome.
3. Coolant change. Done at 18K. I will go ahead with it. Opinions welcome.
4. Spark plug change. Done at 18K. Required?
5. Fuel filter change. Has never been done. Required?
6. Brake oil change. Done at 18K. I will go ahead with it. Opinions welcome.
7. Brake pads change. Has never been done. Required?
8. Air filter change. Done at 35K.

Air Conditioning, Injectors, Throttle body have been untouched until now and are functioning absolutely fine. Are servicing of these required even if there are no issues, because they may not be trouble-free like now if the service is not done properly!

Anybody got their car serviced recently at Surakshaa, Bommanahalli? Is it the same quality wise as when Mr. Lokesh was there? Have they resumed washing of the vehicles? Because I would like to get the under chassis and engine bay washed at least when getting the car serviced!

Thanks and sorry for any silly doubts!

Ground rules which will help a smooth car service and repair

1. Do your homework. Prepare a list of points to be taken care of. Take a print out if possible.

2. Prepare your car for service - Take out all your belongings including radio antenna, SD Card and tool kit.

3. Take pictures of your car and inspect for exisitng scratch marks and dents.

4. Note the km reading and fuel level by taking a picture

5. Do not opt for driver pick and drop

6. Reach the service center early and discuss all job to be done in detail with your SA. Clear your expectations and doubts. Mention the list of jobs and expected outcome. Handover the printout if possible.

7. Before leaving the service center (in case you have to) note down approx cost of repair/service, parts to be replaced and approx time of delivery.

8. Follow up call with SA on work being done, change in service cost if any and expected time of delivery.

9. Reach service center 30 mins before time and inspect your car thoroughly for any new scracth, dent or damage in interiors. See if the car has been cleaned as expected.

10. Ask your SA to explain the work done and inspect physically wherever feasible.

11. Request for a test drive if any major work is done.

12. Proceed with final billing only after you are satisfied with the work done. Do not forget to recheck km reading and fuel level.

13. Before making payment, verify each and every spare cost and labour cost carefully. Negotiate if required and handover the service coupon, in case you have one.

14. Fill the feedback form and thank your SA if he did a good work.

15. Observe the vehicle performance and if any new noise/ issue during next 7 days of drive. Call your SA directly if you feel vehicle is not performing as expected.

Re: Maintain the car yourself. A service checklist

Need some advice, I probably know the answer but still taking a general consensus.
Due to the sole Toyota Dealer in Pune folding up, I had to service my Etios outstation earlier than the specified time/kms.

Because of this -
Service milestone of 30K was at 26K
12 month interval was supposed to be in Dec but service happened in Oct.
So I am running 4K and 3 months earlier than the specified milestones/intervals.

Due to 2 long drives this year, my car already ran 9.5K kms and by the 10K interval rule it will be up for service within 2 months. 40K service has brake oil and spark plug replacement.

So what should I do?
a. Honor the 10K rule even if it will always be 4K earlier?
b. Delay a bit, like by 1K kms every year?
c. Change the engine oil as per the 10K rule (within next 2 months) and the other replacements (brake oil/spark plug) by the 4 year rule?

I would not be concerned by delaying the oil/filter change to 2k, bring the 4 year replacement a bit forward to coincide and stick to the regular intervals again for everything going forward.

Going over the intervals on a well maintained car now and then is not a big thing. Especially things like engine-, brake oil and plugs. It is not as if these completely loose their usefulness as soon as you hit a certain mileage or time.

Re: Maintain the car yourself. A service checklist

My Honda Civic is due for the annual service in Delhi.

The vehicle has done 1000 km since the last service, done a year back.

In annual service I do

- Oil change.
- Oil filter change.
- Cleaning of all filters.
- General servicing.

Do I need oil and filter change every year?

If you can tell me what all should I get done I will be grateful.

Yes you need to, irrespective of kms run. Manual mentions certain number of kms or 1 year whichever is earlier.
