Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

The OEM Amaron battery of my Swift VXi has just completed 5 years of trouble free service and has started the 6th year of existence. It is still going strong and starts the car in the first crank.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

The original battery in my Tata Indigo (MPFI-2005 GLX) is still giving me six years of trouble free service. Just last month I took the car to an electrician for a battery checkup, after the dynamo started giving overcharge, resulting in both my headlamps being blown off simultaneously.
The electrician checked both the battery voltage and measured the specific gravity before informing me that the battery is still in good shape and shall last for at least six more months. However, I make it a point to check the battery for water levels, at least twice or thrice a year.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My OEM Alto Exide battery had been working since purchase from August 2007 till day before yesterday. Yesterday morning it just didnt crank! The battery suddenly appeared to be completely dead. Not even the dashboard lights came on.
Now thinking of going for an Amaron, any suggestions for the model and expected price? Or even if another like AC Delco, cummins shakti, etc is better .

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

I had brought a Omini in 2004 and it came with Exide battery , my freind who owns a battery shop told me to exchange this Exide with my Zen's battery of Bosch make since I am selling the Zen.He said it will out last.

Zen BOSCH battery was just 2 months old at that time.
I exchanged the omini's Exide with Bosch in my Omini,Sold the Zen proudly within few days with brand new battery and got about 2000/- more then I expected price of the car.

I sold my omini in Nov 2010 with same Bosch battery in I have already sold my omini but by now my beloved batteryjust OK condition ,it used to start but with reluctance.that works out to be 6 yrs.
Although I have sold my OMINI, by now the BOSCH must have died, R.I.P.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

I bought a new battery (Exide Matrix) for my Zen about 2 weeks back. The old battery (Exide) lasted me 6 yrs and 11 months .... almost 7 yrs!!! I knew it was getting old but worked fine, until I came back from a month long vacation. After 7 yrs of service, my old Exide battery finally gave up.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

I have Exide battery in my SX4 which is 4 years old. Recently the car failed to start after using the fan, charger, FM for 30 minutes. I got some help with the local guys to push the car to start it.

When I came to my home I switched off and tried to start again, it started. I checked the water levels and it was correct, does the battery needs charging or time to replace it ?

I think the battery has reached towards the end of it's life. Have it fully charged once; when the issue surfaces again, you'd rather replace it.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My Chevy's original AC Delco battery lasted 4.11 years. I never faced any issue with it, till the day it drained out. I did the mistake of listening to music with my heavy duty woofers on, when the engine was off. The car refused to start later and I had to call a local mechanic to help me push start Chevy. He insisted on bringing a new Exide battery the next day to replace the old one. I politely refused his offer and with the help of Team BHP member Khoj, decided to go with Amaron.

The Amaron dealer in Pune told me that the AC Delco battery was still good and could be used for at least another couple of months. The acid level was perfect when he checked. But I decided to change it before my Goa trip.

I installed Amaron Black with limited warranty. The new battery has been working perfectly well for the last six months.

Key thing is to check the specific gravity (density for layman) of the water (dilute sulfuric acid). It should be around 1.3 in all cells of the battery. You need a hydrometer and cover yourself with old apron before checking the cells. Acid splatter from batteries can burn (tiny holes) clothes. If the sp gravity in any cell is less than 1.1 or so the cell is dead and most probably charging will not bring it back to life. You need to replace.

since i needed a battery in the morning, was thinking of Amaron or Tata Green. Checked the website of Amaron and there was no menu to suggest model for a specific car. Then checked TATA green and they had 5 varieties for alto. Was interested in 2 models Silver Plus (24+12) and Gold XT (30+18). Called up the dealer and he said silver plus -2600 (warranty 18+6) and GoldXT -3000 (24+24) after old battery exchange. I was shocked to learn the warranty mentioned on website and quoted by their official dealer was different! Called their helpline and the person repeated the warranty onthe website. When i told him that their own dealer was giving different warranty period, he was speechless, he asked someone and said that whatever dealer is saying is true, website may be wrong.

Anyways went to motor market. Went to an amaron shop and was quoted 3000 for amaron GO 38B20 L. came across bosch service centre and went inside. He said S4 (18months) 3570 and S5 (24months) 4000 (no exchange accepted). I came out without saying much. Just wanted to check the TATA green shop now.
Came across a shop that had only batteries, even name of shop was XXXX Batteries. Went inside and saw many brands (Bosch, SFsonic, BaseTerminal, Eastman and a few others too.) but most visible was Bosch. Inquired about alto battery. He said Bosch S4 for 2300 and S5 for 2600 after exchange. I was amazed to see the price difference, but inquired about other brands. He said bosch is best followed by a new company called 'Eastman' (supposed to be a big tool manufacturer), it had kapil dev's photo on it. But i did not want to get something i had never heard of. Sealed the deal for S5 (24months) for 2500 rupees including fitting it at my home. Had a warranty card stuck onto it which was duly stamped and signed by owner along with bill.
Hope it gives good service.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

OEM Exide battery on my Spark lasted for 4 years. I did not use car for some 20 days and then I noticed that the car was not starting in 1st crank. This persisted even after driving for some 30 KMs. So decided to change the battery.

I heard good feedback about Amaron batteries, so checked their website. The pitstop they mentioned on their website no longer exists. So I tried calling their helpline number. To my surprise, no one was attending the phone. Not sure what will be their service level if I end up with drained batteries. This is bit strange that customer is trying to buy product, but gets discouraged by lack of information and response from the company.

So finally I gone back to tried and trusted Exide batteries. Installed Exide ATB range battery. Now my car is back to first crank starting. And bonus is - Alternator whine coming from my ICE is gone !

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

I have a SWIFT VDI (May 2008) that has clocked 67K. It's time for a hcange in the battery, I have a Exide -right now with no additional fancy gear that would eat out the battery. I do charge my mobile on & off!
Any advice of a good battery and dealer in Pune would be kind.
Thanks in Advance.

Has the battery given up? It is just over 3 years old so it can go on for a bit longer.

However, if you feel the battery is showing signs of giving up, change it by all means.

You could consider the Maintenance-free batteries from Exide; they are pretty good. Should cost ~5k. You could even get some discount if you return your old one.
