  • Exide which came in Accent CRDI lasted only for 3 years and it was replaced with an Amaron which lasted for 4 years. Got replaced with another Amaron recently.

You may have wasted a good battery which may have lasted months/years more! Normally batteries don't die without warning. You could have just tested the battery instead, for your peace of mind.

And if its ment to die suddenly, its perfectly possible that even a brand new battery can die suddenly.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My Indica’s OEM Exide died after 5.5 years. As correctly said it does give warning. In my case one cell was gone at 5 yrs, but it was working. But when I tried to crank after an idle time of 3 months I found it to be dead. It was Exide MF50Z.

The Santro OEM lasted for more 4+ years, which were replaced with Amaron. 5 years later the Amaron continue their service without any complaint.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My OEM battery was Exide, which lasted for almost six years. But then the car refused to start at the first attempt. One evening just a fortnight ago took the car to one roadside Exide dealer while returning home from office, for a load test. The mechanic showed me that while the battery voltage as well as the alternator charging was good, the battery was not behaving properly under load test. And after two or three such loads, the car refused to start. They helped me to start my car with a spare battery.

Although the next morning the car started at the first twist of the key, took the car at the same dealer for a battery replacement. This dealer was possibly the largest dealer of Exide in north Calcutta and for an Exide ATB battery they charged me Rs 4380/-, with an exchange of my old battery.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

Changed my Safari's OE Amaron battery with another Amaron. Could have lasted 5 years or more, but decided to change it after 4.5 years when the cranking RPM started coming down. Didn't want to face a situation on the road so played safe.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

I have a Honda city which I bought new in 2007 March. Till date, I still use the same OEM battery. I guess it is Amaron. I also have a 60 Watt VHF transciever directly wired from battery. Hence many a time, I have used the radio on full power even with out engine one.

I must confess, the battery still works perfect. it is almost 5 years now..

Same has been my experience with my previous wagon R which I used for a good 7 years, with only one battery replacement.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

We changed our Indica Turbo's OEM Exide after 5.5 years and 100,000+ kms. However we had to replace our Accent CRDi's OEM Exide after 1.5 years and 20,000 kms as it became flat after 3-4 days of not using the car. This was mostly due to some fault in the electricals (which BTW the service centre could never diagnose).

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

my OEM Amaron was on its last legs when my Scorp went for its 50K Kms service. The Scorp was taking time to crank at start up time every day and I was beginning to wonder when the battery would kick it.
As it happens there was a bit of life left in it - 3 years and 9 months of use.
good enough I think.
I ve replaced it with a brand new Heavy Duty Exide before selling my Scorp on, to my pal.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My OEM exide battery on my M800 lasted a good six years before giving up her ghost. The replacement Amaron did not make it past 1.6 years and afterwards I switched back to exide. I think Exide is a better option. Just be sure it is an original and not some refurbished stuff.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

the OEM Amaron on the Scorp lasted 3 years and 9 months. changed it last week for a brand new Exide Heavy Duty one as I was selling the vehicle.
The Amaron would have gone on for a bit longer according to the service chaps but it was on its last legs and I prefer preventive maintenance rather than disaster maintenance.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My Alto is currently running on the OEM Exide which was given with the car. The battery is over 3.5 years old now and the car has covered 50,000 kms.

During the recent service the mechanic mentioned that one cell in the battery is weak. Cranking (on a cold start with ambient temperatures of 12-13 deg C) takes a little effort now, but I reckon that it should be good to last through this winter.

Static volt reading on the battery with a multi-meter shows 12.35 volts down from 12.53 volts when the car was at 30,000 kms.
