Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

On the various cars that we have owned,
Exide lasted 3.5 years,Tata green and Amaron lasted 4 years,Local made battery is due for a replacement now (installed on 26-6-2009).

All the batteries were replaced before they gave out completely as a preventive maintenance.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My OEM Exide battery in my WagonR lasted for a good 4.5 years! Now since that once cell in it is dead, it is due for change. Thinking on replacing it with Amaron.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My OEM Exide Fredom 75D23L on my Verna lasted 5 years and 9 months and 15 days. Thought it would cross the 6 year mark when it suddenly gave way. It had juice to run other accessories but could not turn the starter motor properly. Took it to an Amaron dealer who did not have an equivalent 68 AH battery and since I was happy with Exide itself have replaced with Exide Matrix now.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

The OEM battery in my Punto MJD was Exide (50AH) and it lasted for 3.6 years. Recently, it was giving signs of ageing with all kinds of errors on the MID, also, it refused to start a couple of times. It was time for an upgrade.

Upgraded the battery to Amaron Flo (55AH) yesterday and now the car cranks super fast.

Got the battery for Rs. 5,300/- with 4 years warranty (first 2 years free replacement and the next 2 years pro-rata discount) .

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

This is my 6th year running on the OEM Amaron battery in my Honda City ZX GXi. Of late, I've started noticing that it doesnt seem to deliver enough cranking power, with the engine coughing a bit and me having to retry once more. Other than that, no other issues.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

Have posted before on this thread 3 years back.
OEM battery -Exide on the 2002 Santro lasted 7.5 years.
In April 2010 , went for Amaron with 36 months warranty.
Precisely in the 37th month , the Amaron died , have now gone for SF sonic battery yesterday which is also an Exide brand. The SF sonic one is with 48 months warranty and the car is in its 11th year. Hopefully it should be trouble free till the time I have this car.

The OEM battery in my Ritz is almost dead. On cranking the instrumentation cluster blinks and the clock is reset. But headlights, stereo work normal when on accessory mode. Cranking time is more than normal (may be it is those last battery juice).

The car has just completed 90097 kms in 2.5 years. Will be giving the car for the 90K service so will change it then.

Cheers,
Anurag.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My Dzire VXI Exide OEM battery lasted for 4.5 years. One saturday car didn't unlock with remote so unlock with Key - this was first time I open my car with Key instead of remote. After getting in I realised that no indicator is glowing on instrument panel and car is not starting. Also this was the first time in my Dzire's life that it did not start at first crank. So opened bonnet and checked whether wires are intact or cut by rat as one of the friends suggested but visible wires were intact. Later I went to nearby known shop and picked one of the service guy with battery jumpset. He started car with battery jumpset then I took the car to service centre. There it diagnosed of battery failure even after filling distilled water.
Replaced OEM battery with Tata Green which costs INR 3500 with buyback of old battery.

Cheers !

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

I think when people give information about life of the battery, one should also add details about additional accessories. like Amplifiers, sub woofer, aux lamps as these tend to drain extra power from battery.

The OEM battery of my Alto lasted out just for 2.5 years, i do have a 4 channel amp and a sub which contributes to the short life of the battery.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

Original Exide freedom on my Vista lasted 3 y and 4 months. Really strange experience. The night and days before the battery conked off the battery was perfect. No issues or signs of a problem. All of a sudden one morning the car refused to start. The central locking worked which made me think that the battery was fine! After an overnight charge the car still refused to start. So bought an Amaron battery from the same shop. No issues since then\

No amp or additional components added to the car.

You got the battery exchanged, right? Did you go back to dealer to find out the status of the battery?

May be the battery was not able to hold the charging that was done by keeping it overnight. The central locking our any accessory does not consume much battery but the starter motor drains the juice to nil on a single crank.

My battery is also behaving same. Cranking its taking longer so when the car had gone for its 90K kms service the SA told it has a little life left and more over I have a daily running of 118 kms so it gets charged a bit which is enough for cranking the next time.

I have the torque pro app and a OBD 2 reader. Kept the car on ignition and checked it was reading a voltage of 11.9v without any accessory on. Switched on the head light and stereo the voltage went down to 11.8v. Switched off all accessories and cranked the engine, the voltage dropped to 4.6v.

Cheers,
Anurag.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

@ Big Ben,
In diesel vehicles the starter motor is the one which needs the highest load. Even on my car when the battery died it was still able to power all accessories including my power windows. Only on cranking one fine night at office did I realize my battery was as good as dead Also, I did not have issues in the morning before while starting. After jump starting and driving for some 20 odd kms to a battery vendor also did not make the battery to retain the charge. So I promptly changed to equivalent. I was happy with my OEM exide which lasted close to 6 years / 85K Kms and so have changed to similar no-maintenance one.
