Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

Hi BHPians,

I have a Punto 1.3 MJD Emotion which is 3 Years and 8 Months old and the today it showed up 'EBD Failure' at the start of the engine and if i repeat it again then it goes away. Checked with Service Centre and they told the issue is weak battery and needs replacement. The OEM battery is 50 AH Exide Battery.

Checked in two sites www.batterybhai.com and www.batterywale.com, the Amaron battery which are quoted are 55AH and 60AH batteries. Is it fine to go ahead and change with higher capacity battery or should I stick with 50AH battery.

Note: I have Relay for higher powered headlights and Race Dynamics ECU in my car and would like to know if the higher powered Battery would affect these instruments.

Thanks

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My Linea's OEM Exide battery lasted for almost exactly 3 years. Lasted from October- 2010 to October-2013. My car used to have hot ignition failure. The mechanics advised me that it was because of the battery. Ever since, I changed the battery, I never had the same problem. I replaced it with Amaron as I was getting a better deal (price, warranty wise) than Exide and others, and also the reviews of Amaron were pretty good. So far no problem.

Just two days back I changed my car battery from OEM to EXIDE. It was fully dead and stopped in middle of the road. It lasted 7.6 years with all the music and display system.

Its funny it happened. My Honda City's battery went kaput exactly 5 days over its 2nd birthday. I was surprised. With most OEM batteries going strong for 3 years +. But I guess Honda has to be blamed for such a lousy OEM battery. My car was a June 2010 purchase.

Agree. I was under an impression that the battery can be charged, but the battery guy after inspecting said it needs to be replaced. Hope Exide lasts longer.

My neighbour's Exide in his Swift VDI died just short of 3.5yrs. This was the OEM battery. How come same battery lasts shorter or longer in same/different cars?

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My Fabia OEM battery seems to be dead since last couple of days, needs to be checked for how is the condition.
Never gave a problem in 5 & 1/2 years till now.

Is it ok to just show it to neighborhood mechanic, or should only show to an authorised battery dealer and/or car service center??
