Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

Our October 1999 Santro OEM car battery worked till April 2007, 8 years almost!

However the car ( we still own it and love it ) has a current reading of 27k and no car audio system. The replacement battery is still working just fine by the way as our usage came down further when we got a 07 City ZX (sold last month) and now a Vento that has 3k in 1.5 months as dad started commuting to work by car (75 odd km every week day) when we got the City (lovely car itself! )

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My i20 CRDI is 34 months and 70k old and is still running on the OEM battery. I have till date had no issues with the battery and I have always noticed that Hyundai service tops up the battery with distilled water on every service. So its still going on and I will update in future as to actually how many months did my OEM battery lasted me. I am expecting that it will die this winter and one fine winter morning it will not be able to crank the engine. I hope for the best and keep my fingers crossed and above all touch wood.

With the increasing popularity of AT cars, once you cross the 12-18 months mark make sure you have a set of Jumper Cables in your car.An AT cannot be realistically push started.

My Indicas OEM battery lasted 4.5 years. It died as the car was idle for a long time (3 months +).

I would suggest Exide. (Heard from taxi men that Amaron doesnt work well with Diesel engines, I don't have first hand experience on diesel though!).

What does diesel engines have to do with either exide or amaron? They just need a good battery of correct capacity just like petrol cars.

My thinking was that the composition / construction of Amaron doesn't go well with the high current requirement to crank diesel engines (in comparison to petrol ones, which are lighter to crank, relatively).

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

3.5 years gone and still going strong. I Have a MS Swift Dzire. The battery is the Amaron from OEM.

Though I have a feeling that it will last another 6-10 months only.

That is an interesting point sir. If an at car does run out of battery, is there any other way to get it started?

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

Verna 4 years / 82000 km's - the battery did not crank last night. Had to call in someone who pushed and started it. Came home - tried starting it this morning BUT no luck. Looks like I will have to get a new one.

Any suggestions ?

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

I have a chevy beat petrol and its 1 yr and 10 months old now. It has covered 11000K approx and it has not rested even for a day from the day it was bought, atleast we have driven it for a minimum 2 kms ( I am insisting this point not to make assumptions that, may be the car might have been rested for some days or weeks or months) and the OEM battery went dead just after the warranty period, in 14 months. So in here the battery is not used to a great extent or no case of not using it at all. When inquired about that in exide and in chevy service center, they told warranty is for 1 year ( I was in an assumption that warranty was 2 years for OEM batteries) and I need to replace it. I was so frustrated with exide at that time and would I go on a replacement with exide again? nooooo way. I have experience with amaron living for 7.5 years in our old santro, so without doubt went for amaron battery now.
