Just replaced the OEM Exide Freedom battery on my Innova with an Exide Express after 4 years and 9 months. The new battery cost Rs 4800 after exchange.

The Exide Freedom 55 DIN battery in my car is still going along after 7 years + now ! (touch wood ) Not sure if this is one of a case. The previous OEM 50 DIN Exide lasted about 3 years.
Got it checked by the service folks and all the cells are fine. They mentioned I can continue using it.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My OEM battery on my Swift Dzire Vdi (Jul 09 model) didn't last that long. When I went for a routine check up before I did a long journey to Vythiri in Wyanad dist, Kerala, I was told by the dealer that the battery was weak and may last for few more months or may go off anytime. I think it was an Exide, not sure about specifications. It was replaced with Amaron. No issues so far.

Its amazing how everyone trusts dealers to decide on battery health. Hope you guys realize that it would pay to declare a battery weak when its not.

Is there any way in which we can check battery condition on our own? Else one has no options but to rely on these dealers/mechanics for the fear of car breaking down in middle of deserted highway

3 yrs and 8 months from the OEM exide in my Estilo. Replaced with Amaron Flo at 3600 after discounts and battery buy back.

One cell had conked off giving a max voltage of 10 odd volts.

Is there not a battery warning light in our cars? Will it not be of any help?

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My Santro AT's Exide OEM battery died yesterday after 4 years and 3 months of faithful duty. I had been noticing a hesitant self start since 6 months on some occasions, but regular running kept the battery alive. With winter setting in in Bangalore, the lower temperatures did the trick and it finally died yesterday.

Based on Team BHP thread suggestions, went for Amaron. Price wise also it was making sense. Got a 35 AH Amaron 'Black' from batterybhai.com. 18 m warranty. Quick service, same day delivery, and cash on delivery. Cost me Rs.2550 after exchange reduction for the old battery. (Amaron 'Fresh', with 12m warranty was quoted at Rs.2350. I didn't mind paying additional Rs.200 for 6 more months of peace of mind).

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My Alto 800's (OEM) Exide busted after 4 years and a month. I think this is the maximum I can extract, because I top up every 3 months and the car runs daily. Planning to switch to Amaron. Shall I go for 35 AH or 40 AH? I have installed after-market power windows, but no Stereo, and no other electrical upgrades.

Please stay with the stock rating - details will be available in your owner's manual. Or the battery shop / car service center. You will not need a higher rated battery.

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My old Tata Indica battery (Exide) lasted for a shade over 4 years. Never gave any trouble and was near maintenance free.

Switched over to Amaron

Re: OEM car battery life - How long did your OE battery last?

My friend's Honda City Zx model purchased on oct 2007 had it's OE battery (Amaron) replaced today after 6 years of service. The car is not driven much and has just 16.8K on the odo.The battery was 'still' cranking and all the functions ie alarm, door locks etc were still working fine but he decided to play it safe and replace the battery.Got a Amaron flo with 2+2 years warranty for 3.7K.I think it's amazing for a OE battery to last so long.
