Re: What was the average life of your car's brake pads?

Recently got my Baleno CVT serviced for 30000 km at Nexa. Service Adviser informed that brake pads need to be replaced immediately. He shared the photos and said they wont last for more than 200 kms more.

Need advice from experts, whether pads need immediate replacement or i can still drive around a bit. If the pads need to be replaced can you suggest any good quality after market pads, but not very expensive. (Bosch/Minda/TVS/KBX/Rane/SMPL)

SA informed that OEM brake pads along with labor will cost around Rs 5200 + GST which i feel is too high.

Any good garages around Mumbai where I can get brake pads replaced at reasonable cost ?

Stick to Maruti OEM brake pads. There are so many fakes that you will not know the real from the fake and that will cause damage to your rotors.

There seems to be uneven wear on the pads. You definitely need to replace the pads but most importantly, you also need to see the caliper and the slide pins.

Also, given its a CVT, do you keep the car in D and keep brake pressed when on a standstill ?

Never. Always shift to N if I see waiting / standstill for more than 5 seconds.

You can try Nakita motors at Bandra if you live near that area. They are there on Team BHP directory. You can check the cost of the brake pads on Boodmo and order them online and then carry to a decent FNG who can then install same for you.

The pads look considerably thinner than a unused/brandnew pad. Can you place the old and new next to each other and see for yourself? Usually there is a dust collector and heat dissipation grove at the center of the pad (top to bottom). Since that is not seen here I would assure that the pad is beyond 90% work out.

And Maruti pads are not 5000Rs! Stop buying filters, oil and brake pads from A.S.S. They are ridiculously expensive.

Amazon India lists Uno Minda baleno front 4 pads at 1800~INR, which means your roadside garage can give it you at 1650-1750Inr if you can search around.

Edit/PS

My Sail UVA front pads from my 2018 archives. Now dont push your pad to this level. This worn out pad was still working perfectly fine. You would not know till the base metal plate hits the brake rotors and gives out a screech noise.

Not at all an expert, but it looks there is sufficient juice still available on your brake pads, atleast on 2 where wear indicators are visible in the pictures, the thickness is way above that indicator mark, can’t say for the other 2. The thickness on the 3rd one also looks adequate. Hence in my opinion, 3 seems to be Ok, while I can’t comment anything for the one where thickness seems to be less.

You can check it with vernier caliper, if the thickness is more than 5mm you are good to go for sometime depending on your brake usage patterns.

IMO - front pads (larger size) have still lots of juice.
