re: Preview: Ford Endeavour

Just spoke to a major Ford Dealership in NCR, the executives are absolutely clueless on the Endeavour but as per the Sales Head, they're foreseeing bookings to start by December end and Deliveries by February.

A pic of Ford Chennai plant shared on ford Ecosport thread. Looks like the rain may spoil the Endeavour launch.

There is a very good review of the Endeavour posted in this thread from Australia, showing its true blue off road characteristics.

It has got all the ingredients of a winner and all depends on the price now.

Fingers crossed

Hi,

Just got a call from the Sales Head of KS Ford, Jaipur that they are expecting the demo vehicle to arrive by the middle of this month and by that time the booking info also would become available. The training for the car is about to happen soon.

Spoke to him about the pricing, to which he said the top of the line model will be priced very close to the currently selling Fortuner.

So, the day is not far when we get to see this beast in flesh

Ouch!! what a bad time for Ford!! Such incidents can make or break the car before launch. I am sure Ford would launch a serious inquiry and come back quickly with details on what went wrong. One scary thing gathered from this article is the quote from the fire brigade saying: it took long to extinguish the fire since some materials were burning almost uncontrollably. May be Ford should take a hard look at the kind of materials used in building the car.

On an unrelated front; Its best not to buy any product coming out from Chennai for the next 3/4 months to simply eliminate potential flood damage parts/vehicles. If Ford is smart it will time it's launch in such fashion to dull the memories of the flood and its impact

This is the scary reality of using outsourced vehicles and components!

Agreed.

I understand that a lot of auto component manufacturers are located near these factories and we still do not know how they are affected by the floods/rains.

Even Toyota who may have a factory in Bangalore, but may use components sourced from the Chennai/flood-affected area. Who will really know what parts goes into their vehicles?

re: Preview: Ford Endeavour

Ford Australia has taken a huge risk and priced the Everest against the 4x4 market leader Toyota Prado (which sells more than 15,000 units per annum in Australia).

What's interesting is that the Everest's natural Toyota competitor, the Fortuner, has also been recently launched here. Have to see how many people will buy an Everest over the Prado as Ford 4x4s have a poor reputation and resale (the Explorer sold for a few years & was withdrawn) whereas the Prado is really loved by all, from soccer moms to hardcore bush drivers. There is only about 10% price premium for the Prado over the Fortuner.

In addition to the Everest & Fortuner, a number of similar medium sized pickup truck based SUVs have been launched (like the Pajero Sport (based on the Triton), Isuzu MU-X (D-MAX), Holden Colorado etc) at similar price points.

Incidentally, the pickups (called utes in Aus) are not that much cheaper than the equivalent SUVs (unlike India) as they also come with the same powerful drive trains as well as all the bells & whistles.

re: Preview: Ford Endeavour

I don't believe any of this - imagine a simple battery grounding/power cable not secured could spark a fire like this?!

Further, the materials used are obviously unsafe, based on the description of the incident.

I have serious doubts about this vehicle and am simply waiting to see what actually happens over time...

Note the ending paragraph from autoevolution.com's story:

"While this makes every owner of Ford Everest SUVs and Ranger pickups feel better about the chances of not going up in a ball of fire, at the same time it raises question marks for all Ford owners in Australia."

Why is that there is a vast pricing difference here between the prado and fortuner?

Import duties + fat margins!

Pardo is a CBU import and is taxed accordingly.
Interestingly, both the Prado and the Fortuner share the same engine! A lot of mechanical bits are common.

Re: 2015 Ford Endeavour vs XUV

The off roading capabilities shown in this video is really tempting..the SUV takes care of tough terrains on its own

XUV5OO is impressive with its highway performance and handling. Any inputs on how this SUV handles & perform?

IAB has uploaded an extensive gallery of the endeavour spotted at an Indian Service Station. What's good is I can spot many features that have been carried from the Thai version and haven't been omitted.
Price it correctly Ford and you have a winner in your hands.http://indianautosblog.com/2015/12/2...d-india-206358

Does anyone know what the flat rectangular bumper-mounted units are on the Everest in the video - both on the front/rear of the vehicle?

Are they LED lights?

In these photographs, they show a beige interior.

Does anyone know if Ford has plans to offer the fully black (and leather seat-covered) interior - like in the South African video review?
