Re: Ownership Review: My Kia Seltos 1.4L Turbo Petrol (GTX+ DCT)

Service Update;

This service happened at Shreenath Kia, Thane.

The car got new Engine Oil, Oil Filter, A/C & Air Filter. There was a sound coming from the front end of the car when going over bad roads / undulations which I thought was coming from a rattle in the steering column / lower dashboard area but later it was identified as a steering rack related component which had failed. It was replaced in warranty FOC. The car was cleaned and the interiors vacuumed before delivery.

Total cost was INR 5560 (Including GST)

Re: Ownership Review: My Kia Seltos 1.4L Turbo Petrol (GTX+ DCT)

Hello @Karan,
Thanks for such a great ownership thread. I am kind of torn between the new Seltos DCT/ Virtus DCT and was wondering if you could help me out over here. The reason I am a little hesitant on taking the Seltos is the complaints about the suspension on the R17 versions, even after the minor suspension upgrade. I have test driven it a few times and found it alright, but i have a close friend who own Seltos GTs in my circle, and he is telling me it is pretty harsh and hard to live with for non-highway driving and in broken bangalore roads.

How do you find the performance of the suspension on broken city roads? I don’t want it to be as compliant as the VW twins, but I don't want a car that will throw me around unless I am ultra careful also on expansion joints and stuff.

Thanks in advance!

I personally feel the Seltos has a great suspension setup, its just the tyres which are bad. Change the tyres (like I did) and everything will be ok. Suspension is stiffly sprung for sure (1st few lot cars) & aids handling dynamics, ride is good too on OE tyres but now has become beautiful on Michelins. Also I believe the later lots have softer suspension, test drive the facelift & find out.

Apologies for a delayed response, All the best

Bumping up this old thread to understand your experience driving the DCT. So many speculations and negativity around DCT for city driving, wanted to check with you directly since you seem to be driving this in crazy Mumbai traffic. Do you face any overheating issues? How has the experience been as of today?

Dislikes;

- No Paddle Shifters (A Big miss for this Engine / Gearbox combo and should have been offered at-least in this GTX+ trim)
- Ride Quality at low speeds is not that great.
- Good Year Assurance Tyres (The size 215/60 R17 is Ok but the compound already feels hard & this selection makes the car understeer in some situations & also puts down the ride & handling capabilities / potential of the Seltos)
- The GTX+ variant misses out on the Dual Tone Exterior Colour Option.
Thank you for this excellent and detailed thread which you have kept updated. I went through every line :-). I am evaluating the Seltos GTX+ DCT version as our second car. It will replace our Volvo XC60 which being a diesel will soon run its 10 years out in Delhi NCR. Could I trouble you with some questions? My thanks to you in advance:-

1. How is the DCT gearbox performing for you. Any hiccups so far.
2. How is the ride, in terms of suspension comfort, especially in the back seat 3. What has been your experience with Kia's A.S.S.

Thanks a ton.

Regards,

V.Narayan

1) No issues with the DCT gearbox for me. There have been 2 updates for the initial issues which users faced;
- Transmission Control Gauge was removed with a software update. This I did not get done as I wanted the gauge to judge what's happening with the trans. in traffic situations. In the past 4 years of ownership no issues for me yet.
- Clutch actuation was altered as a part of a recall, this was done couple of years back during a service, this relaxed the DCT a bit in traffic situations in ECO & Comfort mode.
2) Ride was stiff on OE tyres, with my Michelin tyre upgrade & upsize the driving experience has transformed substantially in favour of ride, handling & steering feel & also better stance/looks. Kia After Sales has been good, but they have been really busy with the kinda sales they are doing, thankfully I have a good rapport so support is good. Overall I believe they have never been opportunistic.

All the best

Thank you for your prompt and complete response. Very useful for me. Really appreciate your professional approach.

Once I get the car I would like to take your advice on changing the tyres. I'm ok with making that investment in month one itself. The video link was very informative. Thanks for sharing it.

You really love your cars and know your cars. I can relate to that love. I feel the same way about aircraft. :-)

Re: Ownership Review: My Kia Seltos 1.4L Turbo Petrol (GTX+ DCT)

Earlier this week the car's A/C Stopped working hence sent it to the Kia Workshop.

Within a few hours it was Diagnosed to be a failed A/C Compressor Control Valve. Replaced within warranty. Job well done by Shreenath Kia Team (Kolshet, Thane).

A very exciting update for this thread and an upgrade which I wanted to do since the time I bought the car is finally done;

Attachment 2337928

Michelin Primacy 4ST Tyres (Size 235/55 R17);

Attachment 2337929

^ These are Feb 2022 manufactured and were installed couple of months back (May 2022)
Can you please share an update on how the Michelin's are performing after 2 years of usage. Would appreciate if you can share the Kilometers run so far on the Michelin's along with any issues faced.
