Guess what! Chevy plans to launch the Optra Magnum Diesel with an automatic transmission featuring a 5 speed Auto.

Betcha it'll be cheaper and faster than the Skoda Octavia!

Hmmm... Sounds good.

And i guess it should be able to negate the turbo lag if properly done. GM is working hard these days.

Because the Optra is a diesel will run double the amount of kms in the cost of one liter petrol then the Civic, its cheaper to buy, has a better ride, staibility, comfort & features then Civic.

have test driven optra magnum and civic both and i think the comfort and features offered by civic are more in comparison to optra.as regard to ride quality yes optra seems to be better, stability - both are same,FE yes optra is better being diesel. yes civic is costly buth then GM's reliability versus Honda's reliability is another question to think of.

I was the first one to drive the Civic and can tell you that though the Civic is a good car, the Optra offers more features like audio controls on steering wheel, leather seats(now comes in Civic V, sunroof(still comes in the petrol), and comfort, The Civic is no match for the Optra. Infact the Optra got the most comfortable car tag from OD which even included cars like Mercedes Benz E Class, C Class, Mondeo, Accord.

No the Optra is more stable then the Civic, the optra has been tuned by Lotus and is one of the few cars whose stability is more the faster you go.

There is nothing like that, GM has been the world number 1 for 73 years, its only now it has been pushed to the number 2 postion by Toyota. Honda cars are not specially over reliable, recently there was a recall for faulty fuel pump in the Accord, so is that realible??

Yes the Civic has better steering and better interiors(read funky), looks better then the Optra, Better brand image

Optra does not have audio control on steering wheel.

Infact it does not have climate control, fuel to empty meters,...

even i did not notice this when i took TD.and OD is no comparison to CAR india or AUTOINDIA.CIVIC bagged CAR of the year award.and BUSA you really seem to have a funny bone against CIVIC.and calling cars(accords) back for rectification does need guts for a company ,i actually appreciate it.you may differ and have other opinion.Overall i found civic more suitable than optra magnum in my personal opinion.

I found a hyundai verna to be much more comfortable than the magnum diesel.
Optra magnum is a tiny car inside with hardly any headroom.
Kind of claustrophobic.
10L is too much for a small car on the inside.
I guess the designers did not pay much attention to the needs of tall drivers, a problem very prominent in cars like Octavia.
I expected the magnum to be better than Octavia, but its only slightly better.

Thats your height playing against you.

I think Optra is the comfiest in the segment. The suspension soaks up everything thrown at it.

You are the first person to be saying that about the Verna's suspension. From what I have felt & quite a few others too, the suspension is actually rather soft.

I second that @dockap. The Verna suspension may be good, but the Optra is oh-so-comfy. And yes, I too felt that the Verna (drove the VGT) does have body roll. The Magnum is better here too.

@tsk, I'm 6'2". You may have felt claustrophobic since the driving position in the Magnum is probably lower than the Verna. I initially had the same feeling when I drove low slung cars during my Indica ownership days.

Petrol Optras do.
Check Out the Optra Royale, for example.

BTW, the new Petrol Optras are also Optra Magnums.
Optra Magnum Diesel does not have the audio controls.
BTW, shuvd how's the new car (magnum diesel) doing?
