Re: Azure Grey 2006 Maruti-Suzuki Swift VXi | Ownership Review

Awesome update and let me be the first to congratulate you on the 1 lakh KM milestone Ashton. Swift looks great. The spray nozzle works good from your video. Any idea if its available in India? Would be useful for my Gen 1 Ritz. Also thanks for the Boodmo link for wiper rubber. Off late it is difficult to get rear wiper blades for Ritz. And it costs almost 800 to 1000 Rs. This rubber will be much cheaper and better solution for me. Cheers for more miles.

Re: Azure Grey 2006 Maruti-Suzuki Swift VXi | Ownership Review

This one G13BB engine is one hell of an engine.

I also have a 2006 model VXi. I have kept it in my village for the runs we do when we go there.

I'd like to point out that even after we go to our village after say a maximum of around 6 months, I just need to buy back the battery, and the engine starts in a single crank. No drama AT ALL! I just love this aspect about this engine.

2nd thing I'd like to point out is that there was this instance where we had taken 2 cars on a family outing to a remote location in Rajasthan. The second car was a ford fiesta petrol.

The clutch pipe gave up of the fiesta and we were stranded at a very remote place.

Swift came to the rescue. My 18 year old Swift towed the Fiesta for about 25 kms on non existent roads. You can understand when I say it took 5-6 hours to complete that stretch.

I just fell back in love with my Swift. I felt SO proud of my car.

Being 18 years old with no love given to it (only timely engine oil changes were ensured), it is one gem of a car.

This car isn't going anywhere. It will sit in front of me and I will pass down this vehicle.

Attaching some pictures.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread but wanted to point out some how EPIC this engine was.

Great update .
Can you let me know where you sourced these stickers ? Seems like one of the better ways to get them illuminated in the dark.

Thankyou for sharing this Gaurav ! I see your swift too is of my same type year. In 2020 I went out of the country for about 3 months and I left in a hurry so did not even have time to prepare the car for the storage, when i came back after more than 3 months, it started with a single self without any hiccups just like you mentioned. Truly the G13BB is a gem and has all my respects.

Got the washer nozzles and the illuminated stickers from Aliexpress and a friend hand carried them to India. Sorry guys

Will check if there's another way to get them to India.

Sorry for the tangential question. Have you tried applying this on your phone screen? Does the hydrophobic effect work well on that screen? Hopefully the chemicals are safe for the phone screens!

Makes no sense to apply this on Phone screen as it is not exposured to water . you can give it a try. I have applied this on all the mirrors at my apartment since the apartment has hardwater and i dont like any residue/ stains on the mirrors. This has been helping with it well !

I swear by the G13B Swift, and just can't let go of my 2005 Vxi which has done close to 95k, of which 90k has been in some form of mods, mainly engine/suspension. The first lot were really well built and I haven't had any problems with rust or fading of the taillights/headlamps. I've replaced the clutch, water pump, brake discs once, but other than that it's still running on the original driveshafts, master cylinder, exhaust, etc. The interiors have held up well without any fade except for the upholstery that was replaced some years back. Door and hatch damping helped with the acoustics and also helped reduce ambient noise.

The latest mod so far has been to the illumination and purely by luck figured out that universal projector fogs that are readily available are a direct fit to the 3 OE mounting points on the bumper. If you are keeping the car you really need to invest in this mod, its made my 90/100 headlights redundant and I'm running 25W, 4200K HID's.

The interiors look good as new

Hey Ashton,

Loved reading your thread as a whole process of restoration and the mods too. I do own a 2010 K12M and I am planning for a tyre upgrade. Being a student I don’t have budget for alloys as of now but thinking to upgrade to 15 inch Baleno/Ignis Rims with 195 60 R15 tyres. How would that be. I’ll buy wheel caps for the rims too OEM.

Would suggest you to stay away from upgrading to 15" wheels and stick to the 14" ZXi/ ZDi tyre profile of 185/70 R14. BHPian Eccentric also had plonked in 15" alloys from the 2011-2017 Swift and had a very bad experience with them. The ride comfort was done with and more over it takes a toll on the suspension components made for the 14" wheels.

Simple Oil Change

With the last Oil and Filter change done at the 93000km mark in June, it was time for the the same again with the odo around the 102000km mark. Took this work up over the weekend and was quickly over with. The oil filter was removed and oil was left to be drained overnight. Fresh oil was poured in the next day morning. I decided to change the fuel filter as well since it was last changed around the 85000km mark.

Got the Oil filter and Fuel Filter ( Purolator) from Boodmo. Sourced the Engine Oil (Mobil 1 5W40) from Amazon.

PCV Grommet Replacement

Noticed a slight leakage at the PCV and the grommet needed replacement. Sourced from Boodmo.

Leaky PCV Grommet

Whilst removing the PCV Valve , it opened to two pieces. Luckily I did'nt loose any parts , carefully cleaned and assembled it all back and replaced the grommet and reinstalled the PCV Valve.

Battery Replacement

The battery showed signs of aging whilst cranking like long cranks. It died on me on the weekend and I had luckily a pair of Jumper cables which me and Dad made long time back. Battery voltage showed 10.65V. Left it overnight to charge using a battery charger and was just 10.68V next day morning. After multiple calls with DBHPian Vigsom and Sagarpadaki, a test for parasitic draw was done which was found to be nill.

Called around few shops to find out the rates for the 35AH Amaron battery. My battery had done 5 Years of its duty. The best rate found amongst all the calls was ₹3400 with return of old battery. Changed it and was provided with 30+30 month warranty.

The car cranking felt much better and also noticed lesser vibration at startup.

Hey Ashton ,
Thanks a lot for the recommendation. I did plan for the same in the future adding ZDI rims (15s) to my Swift from 2014 Models as they look good in my opinion than buying the current swift’s ZXI rims. I can get them for cheaper too . I wanted 195s due to getting some extra grip on the road , I planned of getting MRF Zsports Rubbers at 195/60/15 and the dealer quoted me 5800per tyre. My car has been fully restored from A to Z and has been given some accessories too. I will add some pictures here too. I changed the whole suspension parts after 69500kms on the odo and 12.5 Years of Age. They were the stock fitment parts and were never changed. Currently at 76000km . I got it repainted from a detailing studio and with a warranty for 3years . I hope you give me your valuable opinions regarding my car .

Azure Grey 2006 Maruti-Suzuki Swift VXi | Ownership Review-20230318_171422-2.jpg

That sinner is me. I did the grave mistake of upsizing the wheels to 15"ers right after plonking in new suspension components. The upsize scenario here is 185/70R14 to 185/65R15. I was madly in love with the looks of the wheels that I bought them brand new from MGP outlet in my vicinity. And, need I add that these were made by Enkei, Japan?

To begin with, the 1st Gen Swift is one of the stiffest cars to ride. I have read somewhere in this forum that it is too stiff for GTO's liking that he prefers the ride of the 2nd Gen Swift to the 1st Gen. Upsizing the wheels meant the reduction in the sidewalls of the tires resulting in a much stiffer ride. The shocks of the road aren't absorbed by the dampers anymore that it was diverted to other suspension components and ultimately to the chassis.

It's a crazy rabbit hole. Loud thuds could be heard inside the cabin, human body tires out easily( travelling xx KMs would feel like xxx KMs), inception and evolution of the infamous rattles, a leaking rear damper, a busted wheel bearing, play on the drive shafts and lower arm bushes! These were the summary of my experience after using the car as a daily driver for just 15,000 KMs in the 15" wheels setup. I couldn't bear the abuse anymore that I reverted back to the 14"ers.

Your SWIFT is a beauty and let her stay that way. Hunt for the 14" OEM wheels and pair them with 185/70R14 tires. It can vanquish the flowing sections of highways at illegal speeds with A-pedal welded to the floor!

Hey eccentric ,
Thanks for the wonderful recommendation regarding the wheels and tyres. I have a bit of that north indian touch in me which makes me eager of adding bigger rims to the car but overall it isn’t worth it at all . As you said the ride quality got quite bad and stuff. I wonder what people with Type 1 Swifts with 16” or 17” have gone through in the past years . What about me getting the celerio 14 inch rims as they have the same width i guess and look better in my opinion. Also what sidewall of the tyre is required for a 195 tyre for a 14 inch rim in my swift ? .
Thanks ,
Regards
