Tanveer has been very clear about the fact that he wants a 4WD and within a certain 'budget'.
In all likelihood, he'll go for the Safari, as he says M&M are not coming out with a 4WD mHawk before end-July.
I think that about sums it up, as much as I could gather!

But now that his Indica is working like a charm, maybe he'll be willing to wait for a while more?

All bank guys are weird. They call up once, take my details, promise things like 11% 11.5% etc., etc., and then vanish.
I think the reason is NCR bank guys are contacting me(inspite of clearly telling the call center that I want a Ludhiana bank guy to contact me)
I think I will have to make the weekend trip to ldh, and spend saturday doing bank rounds.

Why not let someone get the quotes from banks in LDH and mail to you so you can compare them

Like i said earlier, 90% of the bank staff in all banks are either incompetent or new recruits or both..!

Wont your Tata Showroom guy have guys who does these work? All I had to do was talk to respective agents at Tata Showroom, ie,select a bank and then talk to respective agent.

There is just SBI and Tata finance at the showroom. Moreover I am not in LDH.
Anyways I spoke to HDFC Kotak and ICICI.
ICICI has given the best offer till now(11.44%), kotak is best 11.75, and HDFC says 11.5.
SBI had an advert of 9% but apparently nobody is aware of that advert, and its too good to be true.

EMIs given by the bank agents match the ROI(I calculated according to forumula).

First preference is Kotak, and second is HDFC. Lets see.

Meanwhile the dada motors contact is not returning calls. He was supposed to get back with the discount etc.,

Suggest you call the Ludhiana Tata Motors dealer, and get connected to the finance company / bank's agent sitting at the dealership. Talk to him to give you the details. Once you get things going, you can give him purchase location & other details.

Most of the initial work would have been outsourced by the banks. The people who will call you are not going to think too much about what your actual requirements are. You would need to make them give you what you want.

Tanveer, my beast was financed by TMFL (Tata Motor Finance Ltd). I simply picked up the best offer that I'd received (ICICI were the best) & asked TMFL to match it. Suprisingly, they did. The overall process was also much simpler since they were an in-house arm of Tata motors, so to speak.

Try that approach as well - might work

i had the similar experience, the best offer was made by ICICI but they backed out at theday of delivery and i was furious

asked the dealer to return my money with interest and they gave me the vehicle and after 3-4 days TMFL papers were signed as per same offer that ICICI made.

But why does TMFL act weird and quote rates like 14.5% etc., when most banks hover from 11.40-11.75??
Weird stuff.
Anyways, I spoke to dealers representative. He was unable to convince me to by a 4x2 instead of 4x4(hint: If I wanted 4x2 I would buy the hideous one).

So this decision is going to go with the heart's choice.

Strange how all these dealers discourage 4X4.
A friend of mine was successfully convinced by Bhasin Motors and bought the 2WD. Regretted 2 months later at Nainital's Swiss Hotel when his car refused to climb the short but steep driveway with about a half inch of snow on the road!
Sri Durga tried to convince me to go for a 2WD. Standard line: Sir, where will you ever use 4WD?! Why waste money?

One reason for the discouraging of 4x4 by dealers may also be due to the fact that the dealers "generally" have a 2x2 in stock and has to order the 4x4. It is only but obvious that any dealer will want to get rid of whatever he has in stock rather than blocking his money (even if it is for a couple of weeks) to order and get a 4x4. In Shillong, the only Tata dealer does not keep a single Safari in stock and all orders are placed only after confirmed booking by a customer, be it a 2x2 or a 4x4. As such, the dealer is more interested to push for a sale of a 4x4 as it gets him more commission.
