For Diesel cars,it will be in 950+ RPM.
Not exactly 1000 RPM.

@VP
Is the seat height issue satisfactorily resolved with the new assembly? And everything was fit back properly with no new niggles?

I also have a gut feel that it was exactly 1000 RPM in my Linea earlier. But now its 800-900 RPM. Does it drop down? For what technical reason?

Ashwin's post shows pic that his Linea also idles at 800-900 RPM.

Unfortunately, I could not yet check it as am not in Mumbai. Lemme have some days for if the seat height stays or not.
No, it did not produce any niggle/ rattles after it was refitted.

Somehow, Fiat seems to have penetrated Goa market relatively well. Daily I used to see 1-2 Lineas & Rear Quarter Glass chorme strip is intact in every car

Even Palio's are seen relatively in higher numbers in Goa as compared to other cities

Got hands on my car today after 5 days. First things first, there were some checks pending:

Coolant level: As of today coolant level seems more or less the same as before 5 days when I left Mumbai. Also the pipes around T-hose were dry. On Monday when I checked there were certain sections around there which were wet. I think possibility of leakage is very remote & if there is still a leakage, it must be very very minor. Will have to check for another week. (Could not check floor under the car as the road was wet with rains)

Engine Oil: Checked today again-1) looks very brown & 2) on oil dip stick, the level is half way (of the lower section to measure) lower than the max mark. Hence finally decided to change it today itself. This time trying Fortune Powai, taken appointment for today afternoon.

Shall also take up small small things to be done. Last week, when I mentioned these small thingies to Wasan TASS, the SA started laughing that I want to get such small thingies done. e.g. a rubber seal (small) on driver side door where the door closes & touches with body, needs to be fixed as its missing & so on & so forth. Lets see how Fortune responds. Does that SA also laugh or does he take seriously a Linea-owners viewpoint vs a Tata Indica cab owners priorities?

You guys have confused me too,
Will open the bonnet tomorrow and check engine oil colour and level. Mine has done 4500 kms so it might be okay.

How should it look like if its fine? Will await your obs if any after oil change.
I think oil change might cost around 2500 incl of oil filter as well.

Kharcha kharcha, must have changed that day itself when we were talking. I knew in my heart that you will change it, if not now after 1000 kms

No, I have not pampered my Linea with any kharcha's. She is still a natural beauty in her raw & natural avatar except for good decent but non-expensive clothes. None of the below are still done on my Linea & I think mine would in the most natural form without any of these
  • No Sunfilm
  • No Reverse Parking sensor
  • No Paint Protection Treatment (after monsson WAXOYL may get the deal ! )
  • No underbody anti-rust / sound dampening
  • No genuine leather Seat covers like Stanley or Kaarlsson
The only things where I needed to spend on are - very good decent Art Leather/ PU seat covers & Fiat Badge

Fiat also supported & borne all costs of all I got changed - Viper tank/ bottle, Central Satia - AC Panel, Seat Height Assembly, no cost at all

the 1st real cost is incurred today - Engine Oil Change ( details follow)

Yes. Am very sensitive for 2 things - Engine Oil & Coolant check. Both these go a long way to keep the vehicle healthy. And I overservice both of these - almost always

Engine Oil Changed...TASS also changed !!

Instead of my usual Wasan Motors Kandivali TASS, today I took appointment of Fortune Powai at eleventh hour. I called at around 11 am & asked for appointment for 2.30 pm today itself. There was a load the GM himself SMS'ed back after confirming the appt.

Reached late at 3 pm. Did not even had to go to reception to meet SA, Michael. He came to receive me as soon as I was entering. In next 5 minutes he patiently understood what all I want to get done & the Job card was ready. Impressive. (my comparison would be with Wasan Kandivali TASS as I have been there 8-9 times).

I strolled around in the showroom. Had a look at Foxtrot Azure Linea. Then went to service bay to get manual from the car to pass time in the customer lounge. By then the work was started & car was on the ramp already. SA fetched the manual from the car & gave it to me & requested me to wait in customer lounge. I agreed as it was only professional (though I wanted to be there). I specified that I want to see the flushed out earlier oil & the new oil can & specified 3-4 times that the oil is Selenia K. Verified the can also which they brought from the store. Satisfied, I went to the lounge (around 3.45 pm).

At 4.55 pm, got the SMS that the vehicle is ready. Damn impressive, so fast. After delays always at Wasan Kandivali, I had never expected such a fast response.

SA came & explained me the bill. I was expecting around 2K, it was 2761/-. Because the oil change was a "request" on my part, they charged Rs. 550/- for oil change labour. I requested the works manager quoting Wasan never charges me for such things & even for Coolant new bottle & see if they can waive. They reduce it to 300/-. OK.

Out of 3-4 small small items, The GLove box fitting was done. There was a gap on right side between dash panel & glove box lid. It was looking slightly ugly. They fixed it, the gap is gone & fitting now looks alright. However, when you close the box, there is a tick heard generally. That tick was almost inaudible means the lock has become loose. I asked SA to check it as it seems it may open when car will hit a pothole. He showed me a setting in the glove box deep inside on left hand side & said if that is done the gap will reappear. So, left it at that. Also, left other small things also for 15K visits as timing was a constraint (I went late)

Car was washed externally & interiors vaccum cleaned & handed over to me.

And yes, Anooroop team is at Fortune Powai.

Timings - did the job quite fast.
Professional than Wasan which looks like very amaterish.
Slightly costlier than Wasan.
Unlike Wasan, I might not be permitted to be there on service bay
SA, Michael was patient in hearing anything & any request though he was loaded & mine was unscheduled visit thro' their GM. At delivery there was another Linea customer after him still he came with me for a trial when I asked just to check if car is running alright.
There was no dilly dallying like Wasan where everytime the car is not touched for 1-2 hours after reaching there & everything seems to be in panic with loads of customers.

1st impression is good. My Linea will got to Fortune Powai for its 15K km service. They serivce avg 4-5 Lineas everyday.

Engine Oil (4 Ltr Can) - Rs. 1955/- (Linea takes 3.2 ltr & they generally pour 3.4-3.5 ltr. took back the remaining for future use if needed)

Oil Filter - Rs. 124/-
Labour - Rs. 300/-
Total - Rs. 2,761/-

Is there any effet after oil change? did not feel much, car got a li'l smoother. Butttt, the earlier oil was turned blackish brown, no metal particles were seen. Sa said it could have been run till 15K kms & many use such oil regularly. But I always overservice engine oil. The new oil is clean with light yellowish tint almost water-like.

While coming back, stopped at Petrol pump, saw Nitrogen & got it filled though I was not in favour of it. Air contains 78% nitrogen so I was always skeptical about much difference nitrogen can make. But since I was there, thought lets just test it. Did not feel any difference in ride quality, too early to judge. But my expectation is not much. There was another car before me & the guy took 15-20 minutes in each car, so half an hour for me. So much for nitrogen being time-saving. 30 minutes I would have spent in next 6 months for normal air fill

Pic of oil can - Selenia K

Coolant Mystry

During today visit to Fortune, got Coolant leakage also checked. SA confirmed there is no leakage. This coincides with my observation also for last 1 week when level has not dropped down.

Later while on trial run before leaving, I just asked SA in passing that how the level went 1 inch below minimum level in 25 days?

He asked me 1 que - Did you use Max defogger button? I said yes, 5-6 times during Goa & Lonavala tours. He said that coolant warmth is used in generating that defogger heat (I read that in manual also). Hence, it takes away a protion of coolant. I asked that then that coolant should flow back to the tank when engine is cold. He said once defogger uses that portion of coolant it blocks it & now whenever I'll use defogger, it would not need to take away portion of coolant anymore.

I think this explains the coolant mystry.

IMO this needs to go into "Did You Know" series. Overall, I feel Fiat service has improved by large amounts. Have fixed up a Linea Fire TD today. Sales person promised to call and bring the vehicle to my residence. Let's see, how he keeps his promise.

Thanks for the update, Amit. I have heard good things about Fortune, Powai and second service onwards I am sticking to them.

I have been to Wasan, Chembur and the dilly dallying you talk about is prevalent there also. There is also a sense of panic and busy atmosphere in the Chembur outlet but nothing really gets done! In fact, I rate Fortune, Nerul better then Wasan, Chembur.

Spot on !! Just after posting above post, promptly the same was also updated on "Did you Know?" Series thread as well

Its advisable to check coolant level initially particularly when you use Max Defogger button for 1st 5-6 times

Oil filter is dirt cheap, just 124. And the labour was charged because you asked oil change on request. For 15k service it will be free, am sure 15k service will cost less than 3000 incl oil, oil filter and air filter, pollen filter.

Amit, synthetic oils are built to last. If you change oil at 6-7k then its no use spending 2k on synth oil. Normal mineral oil cost 300-400 and lasts 5k kms which Hyundai and Honda follow. In my Scorpio from 2006, i use synth oil Mobil1 and give car for serv at 12000 kms service intervals.

Thats a first for me. I never use the rear defogger button or ORVM as the ORVM remains chilled whatever you do (will show in 15k service, no plan to waste my day on such a small issue) and am lazy enough to have not opened the bonnet after July when 1st service was done

I am not sure if they will. These salesguys hardly keep their promise, either they dont come or come 3-4 hours late and are in a hurry.

Mine said "Sir ki gaadi hai, jaldi TD le lo, unhe jaana hai". I told him that this is a TD car and if you dont stop telling me this, i wont buy the car from you and will leave a feedback at CEO corner Fiat with your name.
Then me and dad both took TD turn by turn and found the Fire adequate for us, stability at high speeds was a part i found 15 days later when touched 155 on highway..

Absolutely right . I had this feeling so got after the dealer right at the time he had promised to send the car. It did not materialize obviously. I have written a mail to Fiat customer service about this including names of concerned people and waiting for their reply.
