GTO, Can you confirm if there is USB support on the stereo?
If yes where is it placed?
I am asking this because in no review it is mentioned that it has one.
You said it can be added as an accessory, Will the Ford do it for us?

Here's a pic showing USB support

With minimal mods, here is the potential the car has in terms of looks.
Imagine the blue of the 1.6S on this car!

Dear GTO,

It is a honour to teambhp for the invitation for Td of Figo. In fact I have chased the car with my Ritz from Ford factory to Melmaruvathur.(A small town in a drive of 30 to 40 mts drive from Ford Chennai. Frankly speaking I did not like. Of course I did not drive. It was a black Figo was going on test drive by the company. It was Titannium. I snapped that in the mobile but unfortunately it vanished.

Also with a mature & competent chassis , the figo can safely be peted & along with better rubber, will be one to watch out for in its segment.
Only if Ford keeps the spare prices reasonable & reliable, they sure have a good combination.

Don't worry about spare prices one bit, expect to see less than or equal to Maruti Suzuki levels. Our dealer in Calcutta (the one from whom my parents bought the Fusion) mentioned that specifically.

Ford India is pulling out all stops to get this car to do well in the market.

Attachment 277100
15" wheels & more thicker rubber will make this car look wild!

Whoa! Full black is so much better, thanks for sharing. I'm on my way to add this to my review (with due credit to you for the pic, of course).

They used a flashy colour to bring some element of funkiness to the Figo. It's anyways not as modern as say, a Beat, and then showcase the same car in a dull grey? Planned move by Ford.

As mentioned, the USB add-on will be sold as an accessory by Ford.

Totally my kind of design (except for 'em rear lights). Extremely clean lines. No quirkiness.

I'm telling you : The Figo has the steering & handling to please enthusiasts. A 1.4 TDCi + Petes, or even better a 1.6L 100 BHP unit, will be an absolute blast to drive.

GTO, i think you missed my previous post no 209. Its not a pic, its a PS job!

EDIT: Noticed that its added to the review. Sending you a PM, and reporting the post as it may go against the forum quality. Please mention in post #209 that its a PS job, and change as per mod's wish in post #3. Sorry for the confusion! Please change it accordingly.

Note from Mod : Thanks for the Reported Post. The review has been edited to specifically mention your PS work.

pricing

I think people are being a little harsh on Ford.

Ford is being thrashed for its policy of releasing vehicles at higher prices and then cutting down the prices drastically and launching limited editions of their models (as in the recent case of Fiesta).
In fact i appreciate Ford for passing some benefit onto the customers at some point.
I've found a Honda City or a Hyundai Verna to be over-priced in the mid-size segment. Same is the case for i20 or a Punto, emotion. Still, the car companies have never bothered to reduce prices or enhance benefits, obviously because of the steady sales numbers. When the Fiesta was launched, the base diesel was approx priced at Rs.7.4 L, Ex showroom compared to the Rs. 7.8 L for a Verna. Was it ever over-priced?

Now, similarly if the Titanium Figo diesel is say going to be priced at 5 Lakh, ex-showroom, would it be overpriced, comparing this to the ex-showroom price of Rs. 6.33 L of an i-20 diesel or 5.9 L of a Punto Emotion?

The thing I've noticed is that Ford is attempting to make cars to suit basic Indian conditions i.e. provide great drivability & maneuverability as most of the time we drive in dense city traffic; great fuel efficiency which is a must for us and now with Figo are focusing on safety features too.

For Figo, the strategy seems clear. They want to utilize maximum parts from the current products; the interior being completely derived from the Fiesta. Great cost cutting strategy as the Fiesta will be revamped in end -2010. So make use of current manufacturing processes and parts.

Would be interesting to see how the Figo is accepted & adopted.

Very well written post. Thank you Gaurav for this.

I agree with you completely, that although marking down the price might hurt resale values but Ford has never really had an overpriced car (other than the Escort). I also like the fact that Ford has been consistently trying to give us cars that are more Indian than many others with lot's of attention to detail, e.g.

a. The idol stand (Fiesta, Figo) - That flat spot on top of the dashboard might seem like a bit of moulded plastic, but it is so quintessentially Indian. I am not deeply religious, but I can see how that tiny feature is praiseworthy.

b. The ikon headroom - I remember Ford saying that the car was designed keeping in mind a tall sikh gentleman with a turban being able to sit comfortably in the rear seat. Even if it is marketing spiel (which I think it is not), it shows that Ford thinks about these things.

Thank you GTO. You have done it again in your inimitable style.

Some thoughts:

No alloys on top-end. Fiesta wheelcaps:

Aren't these wheelcaps likely to fly off even at the slightest nudge? Some cars come with the wheelcaps that can be bolted along with the wheel. I think they are better.

The glass area, especially at the front, is generous.

Think about the hot Indian summer. The more the glass, the more baking power!

I had my concerns over the sloping roof eating away into rear headroom. Turned out to be a non-issue; I had about 2.xx inches of space between my head and the roof.

Isn't it too short for a low-slung car? 2-something inch for a person who stands 5'10 in his socks is not much. Definitely the roof is not high enough.

some hatches use 80 – 90 cc compressors

Please throw some light on these. Which cars?

1.4 TDCi = completely take your foot off the accelerator in 3rd gear, and the car will chug along happily at 22 kph. Slot the car in 4th gear at 40 kph and it still doesn’t labour.

I have seen in in my humble Palio MJD. Someone mentioned in team-bhp before even I checked it. Quite useful in city traffic, especially if the clutch is hard!

Medium-sized ORVMs. Convex mirrors cover the road well.

My Innova has convex. After using Palio for city rides, I started liking the plain mirror. It's more convenient to reverse into tight parking space. Of course, I never had an occasion when I mis-judged the Innova, but after using the normal mirror I find it easier. May be subjective.

Thanks GTO for one more "bull's eye" review!

The FIGO pic posted by benbsb29 looks sleek. If only Ford had replaced those christmas lights with a decent rear and included beige interiors? This car would have been a stunner.

The existing model, IMO, is strictly average. However, it more than makes up with excellent drive!

Just read

"It is evident that Ford was not present in the Auto Expo 2010 held at Delhi. On Sept 23 2009 Ford’s global CEO has revealed brand new Ford Figo targeting Indian market now the same car is about to enter India and will be available at the dealerships from March 2010. Ford Figo wil be priced between Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 4.5 lakh according to the variant."

Ford Figo battle with small cars in India | Ub News

If that is the case then seems like VFM

@EasyR1der

The news seems to be some sort of a blog, it has way too many grammatical errors to be a reliable source.

I too believe that the Figo's pricing would be competitive but it remains to be seen if they can actually price the car that competitively (i.e. 4.5lakhs ex-showroom for the top of the line diesel seems improbable).
