By 09:00 we cleared Malling Nalla and moved forward.

We reached Sumdo Check post by 10:15AM





Jeep Captain made some friends




After the formalities at the Checkpost we moved ahead only to be stopped since a pole was being erected.

Samdo is at 3076 meters

We reached Hurling by 11:15AM and stopped for tea

By 12:00PM we had plucked a lot of apples and contended with that we moved on towards Tabo

Your query set me thinking , and to search a bit online. I found the details here Welcome to Tabo Monastery. This place was missed by us in both occassions. Probably our database has to be updated on this one. Thanks for pointing that out and letting us know. Hope you have some pictures from your last visit. If so can you please post it for us here?


Both the occassions we have stopped at this somewhat modern monastery only. What a miss! Well that calls for another drive to Tabo

Not really! I escorted our senior citizens around the Old Gompa, but for some reason I did not see you come into the old gompa area which was in the same compound but separated by a mud wall and with a narrow entrance.

@HVK, Sir did you get a chance to go inside the Prayer Hall in the Old Gompa? There are some wonderful painting on the mud walls, done by Kashmiri Artisans!

Sir I was lucky enough to get a chance to go into the Gompa and view all this. If I remember correctly all this is in The Main Prayer Hall of the Gompa and is more than a 1000 years old. Unfortunately was not allowed to take any photographs.

Pictures are wonderful of the monastery. It definitely is a miss. Bolero Saab, the next drive plan is ready for me perhaps?

From the website I see a lot that was there inside Tabo monastery to be seen.


Now I remember a Tamil Movie in which a comedian says " Information is wealth ".

Unfortunately, the prayer halls were all locked up and we could hardly see anything inside (it was dark) through the narrow windows.
