Pic 1: View of the sea from Murudeshwar Temple.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-dsc00373.jpg

Pic 2, 3 & 4: We have lunch at a restaurant - a platform with a roof basically - with its pillars dug into the sea.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-dsc00385.jpg

Pic 5: After lunch, we drive on towards Goa. I jump into the Palio which is the pilot car now - Karthic felt more comfortable chasing at 90 km/hr rather than leading at 60 km/hr.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-img_0025.jpg

Pic 6: This Indicab driver overtook this bus at a curve and made us get off the road. I hope he is reborn as a lizard in his next life. Going by the way he was driving, I'm pretty sure he is already dead by now.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-img_0030.jpg

Pic 7: We enter Goa, and head straight to our old favorite beach - Palolem - and have a swim.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-img_0036.jpg

Pic 8: We find a ultra cheap accomodation near Palolem beach. Note how we plug in the laptop to the power socket. Also note Naveen's pants hanging on the door - there is no room inside the bathroom to hang clothes. Because clothes need to hung on the door, we couldn't close the door. So anybody who wants to take a bath has to sing - LOUDLY. Naveen chose the Kannada superhit song by Dr. Rajkumar on buffaloes (seriously, the song is on buffaloes) - Yaaare Koogadali, Ooore Horaadali...

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-img_0042.jpg

Pic 9: Anybody recognize this game? Although not exactly a graphical masterpiece, it was incredibly addictive.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-img_0043.jpg

Pic 10: The next day, we have breakfast in one of the shacks on Palolem beach.

When I went to Murdeshwhar/Gokarna it was pretty hot. Never felt like going to the beach. Need to go there once again.

From what I hear, Murudeshwara beach is not safe for swimming. Apparently, it suddenly becomes deep just a few metres from the beach. Gokarna & Om beach are fine though.

- Karwar has the best beaches in Karnataka - hard packed sand and mostly shallow.
- Surathkal has a couple of beaches, but sand easily gets into your undies. Those rocks on the beach make it interesting though.
- Panambur beach is good for swimming, but is crowded. When you get into the water, you will be wondering if somebody will flick your bag containing the car keys.
- Marvanthe Beach waters are rough but is good fun.

Nice to see the old photos of Murdeshwar. Clean stretch of beaches. Just the gopuram (tower) under construction.
Now it's a mess there. RN Shetty has ruined the place by commercialising it.

Murdeshwar is a very dangerous beach. People drown there regularly. You may stand on the beach just to get the waves on your feet. The current is powerful, the depth is sudden and it's rocky.

Who is this Shetty guy? Yeah, all the statues are covered with gaudy paint now. I think it looks better in my old 2006 pics.

A few more Murudeshwara sea pics - the sea water has a strange dull greenish blue colour here.

I've been to murdeshwar when neither the statues where there, nor the tower. It was a simple temple on a rock surrounded by sea on three sides. Just a hotel used to exist, the one you said resting on pillars, by the side.
RN Shetty is the guy who's opened the RNS residency and built these monstrocities.
I used to sit on those rocks for hours enjoying the waves more than 15 years back!

Thanks Torqy. I'm actually an author who was written a book on advertising - which unfortunately didn't sell very well

It paid the EMIs of my Optra for the first 2 years though.

I'm pretty sure there is no point in asking, but any pics?

COASTAL KARNATAKA - GOA TRIP CONTD:

Pic 1: After breakfast, we decided to go to our old favorite - Cabo De Rama Fort. Instead of taking the WagonR, the couple hired a Honda Activa, while the four of us boys jumped into the Palio. The couple have way too much fun on their little two-wheeler.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-dsc00391.jpg

Pic 2: Muhaha! God punishes them swiftly for having more fun than us. The guy who gave them the two-wheeler had mentioned that there was more than enough petrol to get to the closest petrol bunk. But the Activa coughs, sputters, chokes and finally shuts down - about 300 metres from the petrol pump

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-img_0061.jpg

Pic 3: We drove our Palio to the petrol bunk and got a litre of petrol for the stricken Activa.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-img_0068.jpg

Pic 4: We decided to sell petrol to Karthic at Rs. 500/litre, which he thought was a reasonable price - but he promised to pay on Feb 30th. We agreed.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-img_0064.jpg

Pic 5: A few KiHiHiHiHi KiHiHiHiHi's later, the Activa roared to life. They went to the petrol pump and filled her up.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-img_0067.jpg

Pic 6: The road to Cabo De Rama Fort.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-dsc00393.jpg

Pic 7: As expected, there is not a single soul here, and we have the entire Fort for ourselves. In the photo, you can see me wearing my favourite "coupe convertible" Pant cum Chaddi. It's actually a pant, but within 30 seconds (just like Merc SLK), it can be converted into a Chaddi.

RN Shetty, is now a famous industrialist.
He literally owns Murudeshwar.
RNS Motors, RNS institutions, Naveen Ceramics, Hotels+lodges etc are all his properties(Bangalore, Murudeshwar,Hubli etc).

OK, now it rings a bell. RNS Motors & his Maruti dealership. Didn't know he was such a big shot.

Well, its only now that I have lost touch with the world of two-wheelers

2004 BC (Before Chevrolet), I was using a Hero Puch 2G, Suzuki Samurai and then a Yamaha RXG. I last drove a two-wheeler 6 months back - my saaala's Yamaha R15. Man, those disc brakes are scary.

Here is proof that I can ride a bike - 2003 pic in Goa with my hired Hero Honda CBZ.

100,000 kms on Indian Highways, 6 treks & a Couple of Flights-dsc00263.jpg

It atleast proves that I can sit on a bike though.
