Team-BHP - Maruti Suzuki Swift : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Bridgestones are good, they are soft so excellent grip and but wear out 5k kms earlier, this is my exp, then again they are notorious for stone hit damage to side walls. So if you do lot of bad roads stick to tougher brands.

195 and 185 is debatable, i took 195 coz i do lot of lunatic driving on bad surface and in rains, so an extra buffer. Then again there are loads of people who are happy with 185 also, mileage hit between them can be estimated at around .5 kmpl, again my findings doesnt take into account odo error and fill up error ;)

Sorry for asking so many questions.. i am fairly new to all this stuff and my next stop is going to be the ICE section stupid:

5 alloys will give you the freedom of having 5 similar size tyres which can be rotated, 4 means you will loose out using one tyre, unless you are ready to remove and refit it during rotation.

4 tyres good news is you can buy a similar size non directional tyre for spare, which can be used in either of the sides in case of failure. ie if you are getting a directional thread upgrade.

I took 5 alloys and never had to use the spare one in the boot even for rotation. I would suggest go for 4 alloys and 195/60/15. Though I have 205/55/15 Yoko S Drives they do touch the wheel arch when in full load. 195 is better I am not sure you get S drives in 195 ES 100 avoid it as it is already out of the market and the leftover stock might be pushed into the market and they are pretty noisy though not as noisy as the Goodyear GSD2's. S drives are the best.

As far as the roads are concerned, I am lucky that most of my driving will be on somewhat good roads.
Somehow I want to go for either Michelin or Yokos, still confused about the profile though.. will wait for the tyre gurus to respond.

Dear as can understand you are looking for a decent ride quality with FE.
I feel following options you may find good.

185/70 R 14
Michelin Xm1+
Yoko A.drive
Yoko A300

195/65 R14
YOKO A.drive.

All above options will not make any difference to your FE , They may only improve it.

Bridgestone i think.

Location : Cochin

Alloys in the range of 15k+ for set of 4, with bill and 1yr warranty.

Makes sense to go for 4 sets of tyres and alloys, in my view investing aroun 10k for a spare is err...:Frustrati

In case of failure I guess the stock tyre can be put in place as the overall difference in diameter is negligible.

It seems to be a little more costly down south. Almost all dealers have quoted me atleast 1000 per ture.
Also the price that you mentioned for the 195/60/R15 Bridgestones seems to be on a higher side (i maybe wrong here).

You are right..its no point spending that extra money on the spare tyre.
The spare tyre if and when needed would not be that big a problem even if it is of a slightly different profile and ya i've got it confirmed by one of the tyre gurus!! :)

Nope, they are 165/80/R14 MRF.Maybe Maruti has also started shipping MRFs now. I had taken the tbp checklist along and when i got the month of manufacturing checked on my car , they told me that it is May 2008.I am not sure how they decipher that code into the month and year and that dealer guy wont tell me saying that its their trade secret and i can get it checked from outside also.
Buttttttttt is the tyre dealer also thinking what you are thinking??
