re: Maruti Suzuki Swift : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

The tyres on my Gen 3 Swift (2011) are nearing end of life. I think it is time to upgrade to wider rubber and get a set of alloys for the car too. I was contemplating on getting 16" wheels for the car. Being an odd diameter, the tyre choices might be very limited. Any thoughts around this? Should I stick to 15 inchers?

What are my tyre options?

16" would cause your ride to become quite bumpy, besides being overkill for the Swift. So I suggest stick to 15", as you get a wider choice of tyres.

Options depend on your requirements.

Stick to 15". No point of upgrading to 16". I wouldnt even call it an upgrade.

Get 195/60-15 in any pattern of your choice. You have a wide variety to choose from. Michelin P3ST, Yoko A drive, Yoko V550, Continental CPC2, Apollo Acelere, Bridgestone MY02, and so on.

Stick with 15". The size is apt for the 2011 Swift. The ride is not at all harsh with 15". You can take either 185/65 or 195/60. XM2 is available in both.

I am running 195/60 R15 XM2 on the stock alloys. The Michelins are expensive but they are great for (wet/dry)grip, comfort and silence. 195/60 feels more stable than 185/65 (stock) and the steering weighs up a bit more, but the car will lose around 3 mm in ground clearance.

Alright gentlemen, I'll stick to 15" . Can't thank you guys enough.

Any idea if Enkei wheels are available in India? I was specifically looking for their M52 in Hyper Black but I don't see any dealers stocking Enkeis here.

re: Maruti Suzuki Swift : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

As far as I know Enkei is here only to supply to OEMs and maybe export to some nearby countries. They are not in the retail business. They have a plant near Pune I think.

I contacted them a couple of years back to see if we can retail but they told me that they are only making OEM wheels.

My 2 cents.
Try not to go for A drives. From past 20k odd kilometers i have this on my car running on 15 inchers and the journey hasn't been good.
It makes a lot of noise first of all and cleaning the sidewall of the tyre is a pain due to the pattern on its sidewall. I prefer S drives instead. They too are noisy but lesser than the A's. For my next set of tyres i'm considering Hankook Ventus, Michelin Primacy or MRF Z.L.O 195's.
Cheers!

re: Maruti Suzuki Swift : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

guys,

i have a old style swift vdi abs. i currently have 195/65/14 Yoko A drives for 40000 kms. my front right tyre keeps getting puntured at the same spot. should i buy a single new tyre to replace it ? will it gel well with the other older 3 tyres or should i go for a set of New 4 tyres ?

If i change to a another tyre then my main criteria being Comfort, Soft ride and Minimum road noise.

Which is my best option in 195/65/14 and also i'm willing to go down to 185/70/14 if it will make the steering lighter. Which tyre would be the best option in both the above mentioned sizes for comfort and less road noise ?

thanks :-)

Gets punctured at the same spot? Can you please elaborate?
185/17R14 profile tyres increase comfort to a great extent and does make the steering lighter. You won't feel each and every stone on the road like when you're running on 195's
If you're going ahead with 185's i would suggest a set of Bridestone Potenza/ Turanza or Michelin XM's/Energy/Primacy. AFAIK Michelin's have less road noise when compared to Bridgestone's maybe due to a softer compound??
Cheers!

re: Maruti Suzuki Swift : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

i went to a new repairman today. He told that spot has become too big with repeated punctures. He then removed the tyre from the rim and put in a 4 x 4 patch inside. He told me now it won't puncture anymore and that my 4 tyres have about 5000 kms life left in them.

after 5000 kms are up i'll shift to 185/70/14, mostly michelin.

thanks.

Can someone advise on what tyres are best for roads beyond the highways? Vehicle is Swift Dzire. XM2s lasted only 20k kms.

Its quiet surprising to know XM2 lasted only 20K, care to elaborate how that happened. Did you ensure proper wheel alignment and is the suspension in good condition to negate unever tire wear prematurely.

I am using XM2 on my swift and the tire wear is quiet normal, have covered around 10k+ kms with them with no issues.

There was improper wear due to alignment issue (on the inside of front tires) but still what about the rest of the tire thread and rear tires, they had reached the indicator too. Maybe they are not made for roads in towns and villages.

The stock tires also lasted about 25k (maybe would have gone another 5k).

re: Maruti Suzuki Swift : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Stick to 185 or 195, beyond which its pointless on a stock car. It will create more drag than useful grip.
