Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Just changed my Michelin XM2 (195 60R15) at 43K Kms life with Yoko Earth 1 tyres (185 65R15).

- Michelin was not available. Importing (restriction) has some issues as per the dealer.
- Yokos are silent as compared to Michelin
- Got minor improvements in ground clearance
- Minor mileage improvement (On MID ~0.5Km/l)
- Paid 5900/- for 1 tyre
- Total 4 tyre change: 24,200INR

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

I had purchased a 2013 Wagon R from Spinny on Feb this year. The car came with Good Year Assurance at the front (replaced by Spinny) and Apollos at the rear in stock size (155/65/r14). Last month i replaced the steel wheels with Minda Konsai Alloy wheels. Since the alloys were 5.5j (stock is 4.4j), the ride became a bit stiff. Changed and upsized with Yokohama Earth 1 (165/65/r14).
Observation:
1- Ride quality has improved a lot, Wagon R already has a wonky suspension, but with the new tyres, ride quality has improved.
2- Braking has improved.
3- The car no longer appears under tyred, at the same time the wheels almost allign with the fenders.
4- Steering has become a bit stiff, not of a concern though as I am used to driving the Gurkha, which surprisingly feels lighter.

Objective of the upgrade was to make the ride more comfortable for my wife (medical issues) and my parents (senior citizens). Didn't go for Continentals as i need to drive over some really bad patches.

Total Price paid: 19k including Alignment and Balancing.

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Guys I am planning to change the tires on my vehicle. Stock replacement(205/65 R16) to Earth 1.
I am concerned about the drop of FE and road noise in case I replace with the existing one.
Creta is anyways not known for FE and a further drop will be catastrophic
Current set is Goodyear Assurance and have clocked 44k in 5 years today.
Appreciate some views and suggestions.

Experience with new set of tyres & Importance of Spare tyre

I changed the stock tyres of my 2022 Tigor iCNG after around 68k kms and purchased Yokohama Earth 1 tyres of the same 175/65 R14 configuration in April this year. After driving for about 9k kms, oneof the front tyres developed a crack and profusely leaked out the air. The authorized shop from where I bought these was far away from my then location so I simply chose to replace it with the spare tyre. I remembered the tyre dealer said that we would replace the tyre if it was not tampered with. So after about a week I made it to the concerned dealer and showed the tyre to him. He made some measurements and sent them to a third person by clicking some photographs (same has been attached herewith). My claim was accepted and I was charged Rs. 1000/- for a new tyre. But I cannot figure out if this was correct. If someone has knowledge in this regard I will appreciate you share it.
As for the overall experience with these tyres, I have enjoyed the ride. They are an overall good package. Provide excellent grip, stability and are comparatively silent on highways than the stock Goodyears.
One thing I noticed during my search for the new set of rubber was that most authorized Yokohama dealers in Delhi had tyres which had a manufacturing month of about atleast 9 old. But I found the latest set in Sector 17 Gurugram, in which the oldest was 5123 and latest was 1324.
Fun Fact: The faulty tyre was the latest one 1324.

Traced this post from 2018 - May:

Standing on 2024 - Nov: My Yoko's are being replaced by another set of Yoko's priced around 7.4 K per piece. It was a tough call, as I was not so sure of replacing all 4 in the first place. But eventually I decided to replace all 5 with a resolution to rotate the wheels every 5K.

Except for 2 tyres three of them had a decent 5K left in their life.

Two tyres probably were subject to my faulty Steering rack + tie rod end joints

I thought of retaining all 3 and just to replace 2. But thats when I jumped into the forum to understand which tyres would go where.

But in effect and with the Bajaj finserve financing, I thought of going out and trying 4. Which would give me some peace of mind - and realised that adding an another tyre will not give much of a bang on the pocket. This is my friendly neighbourhood tyre store about 100 meters from my house. I upgraded my A-stars tyres to Earth - 1s here. They gave me another an average 1.5 K discount by taking the old tyres and also additional 1K on the whole deal.

With the new shoes

My ODO stands at 1,01,000. The ones which I let go gave something north of 50K on the ODO, and it served a decent 6 years - with 3 punctures if I recollect it right. I have all the more reasons to stay with Yokohoma Earth 1s.

Every tire company replaces tire under warranty on pro-rata basis. They have their own calculation based on age (mileage) and remaining tread depth. Usually it approximates to percentage of tread wear like 2 mm (worn) / 8 mm (original) = 25%. You need to pay 25% of the new tire cost.

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Folks, my EcoSport tyres are due for a change now. Have decided to either go for Earth-1 or UC6. Any recommendation for shops in Bangalore where I could get a good deal on Earth-1? One of the dealer quoted ~7600 per tyre, is that a good deal or can it get better? Size would be 205/60 R16.

Its a good price. UC6 are little expensive than Yoko Earth-1.
Do check the manufacturing month of the tyres from the dealer and don't take more 3 months or older one. Best is previous month or one before, not later than that.

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Yokohama Earth1 Max- New/Improved version of Earth1?!

Hello all

I've been researching upon a new set of tyres for quite some time now for my dad's WagonR, it's currently running on its 3rd set which are the Bridgestone Turanza T005a, prior to that used Michelins and Apollo(OE fitment), even though the Bridgestones have fair bit of life left, small cracks have started appearing due to being parked in one place for long time periods, therefore have decided to upgrade the tyres along with a major service during next month(or year perhaps ), after some research zeroed in upon the Bridgestone Turanza 6i,which is recently launched by Bridgestone and promises to offer cushy ride and silent operation and the Yokohama Earth1, which is also an all-rounder tyre but TBH I'm slightly tilted towards Bridgestones due to multiple reasons;

Firstly from what I gathered the Earth1 is hard compound tyre and are pretty noisy especially as they age, secondly where the WagonR is currently stationed, Bridgestone has wider dealer network and better support than Yokohama and lastly I'm kind of a Bridgestone fanboy, right from their F1 days back in the day, I still remember when my dad's MS800 required fresh set of tyres as the MRFs got burst circa 2006, I really pressurised him to get the Bridgestone S322s instead of cheaper Ceats which my dad was leaning upon owing to its lower cost but after explaining him how Bridgestone was way better than others he agreed and we got fresh Bridgestone S322s on our 800 MPFi, I was so overjoyed I decided to adorn the 800 with big Bridgestone decals all around, it was so much glaring that once when I went to service centre people started asking did my dad work for Bridgestone or is a rally driver !

Cutting back long story short, randomly today when I visited Yokohama website spotted the new tyres named as Earth1 Max which promise to offer better grip and lower rolling resistance than the Earth1, so my question is does somebody know about these tyres and are they a really improved version of Earth1 which I should give a try? I only hope it doesn't turn out to be worse since seeing Max badging just irks me a bit too much, ahem, I'm looking at you American aerospace giant Boei....

Hii Rakesh Ji. How are the tyres performing so far? I also own a 2013 wagonr VXI, i am planning to put 155/65 R14 in it. Do you this I should go for it! Most tyre dealers are suggesting MRF or Ceat where I might loose comfort or Bridgestone which is too costly considering the car only has around 3 years left.
Considering Earth 1 is to make the remaining 3 year journey comfortable.

The tyres are good, no doubt, but a bit on the noisier side. Recently i got the tyres of my dad's Alto k10 replaced with Bridgestone Sturdo, pretty much impressed with the tyre, comparatively silent and comfortable.

Hi Rakesh,

I am also looking for replacement of my Alto 800 tyres which is totally at thread level with Bridgestone Turanza. Alto 800 would be used mostly within city and for daily off road to our farm land. Turanza served me very well without a single in puncture in 40000 km life of the tyre. But unfortunately Bridgestone stopped manufacturing Turanza in R12 size and am left with option only for Sturdo.

I am also a fan of Bridgestone and I have Bridgestone Sturdo in my other two cars. They provide me good comfort ride but on the other side it tend to make more punctures (may be because Sturdo is soft tyre compared to Turanza).

So am thinking to switch for hard tyre like Ceat Milaze. Can you suggest any hard tyres so can escape from off road punctures

Regards,
Prabu

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Hello Friends,

It's time to change my renault kwid's 6 year old 42k run ceat milaze tyres. Have an idea of going to 175/70R13 instead of 155/80R13 in stock rims. Looking for a tyre that gives little more comfort. Which to choose, Yokohama earth 1 or continental CC6 ? I currently maintain 32psi, should i change that while moving to new ones ? Also confused about comfort difference in earth 1 and earth 1 max. Earth 1 max not yet available at dealers over here. As per company the new tyre's pattern number is MAX (Old - E400). If believing what the company says, earth 1 max will be better, i hope.

Earth 1 max availability confirmed in 175/70R13 size. Will be provided against order as it is not a popular size. .
