Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Was checking the tyres before setting off for the day when i noticed a cut on the sidewall
Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)-img_20220513_120653.jpg
Immediately removed it and installed the spare.
Went to a Yokohama store and asked about if it was covered in the sidewall warranty the seller had mentioned while buying the tyre. Showed them the bill and all. But they wouldn't even check it. Said goto the store you bought it from. I was in another city, not in Mumbai. Even showed them the online registration of Yokohama but no luck. Also the warranty replacement needs to be approved by the company and can take 5-6 days and you have to leave the tyre with them.
Came back with spare installed and went to the shop i bought it from. But they said cuts and other damage weren't covered in the 18 month unconditional warranty i was told about. Not that would have helped because the warranty expired mere 20 days ago.

He suggested the cuts was superficial and wouldn't cause any harm( the guy in the other city said the same). I was not convinced so he suggested repairing the cut like they repair truck tyres. Fill with rubber and cure with heat. I went ahead with it for peace of mind. Paid ₹600 for the repair. Apart from the plastic film used when clamping the tyres could not feel any difference in the material.

Have covered around 1500kms since the repair and haven't seen any issues.Front left tyre was damaged so i put the repaired one rear left and vice versa. Will be keeping an eye out and checking frequently.

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Today, as I made query at a dealership, there were two models available -- Earth 1 and Bluearth GT. Earth 1 is obviously hard rubber.

How is Bluearth GT for Verna 1.6 CRDI? (I do long highway trips and the tyres should be quiet and giving adequate grip).

You can go 205/55/16 max. We did this on my Dad’s Glanza. OEM stock Apollo Accelere of195/60/16 was immediately changed to Yokohama Earth 205/55/16. These fill the wheel arches much better and make for a more comfortable ride as well. And then we again changed to MRF Perfinzas 205/55/16 and these are even better. Soft ride. Silent. Grippy. Excellent.

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Running YOKOHAMA Earth-1s on my Rapid since last 4 years. The tyres have developed chipping without any reason and I'm not being given any warranty or goodwill discount. Anyone who bought these tyres around 2019 know how much warranty was offered with these?
The warranty drama is also posted on this thread https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-...ml#post5542048 (Tyre Warranty Claiming)

Happy to hear that. What's your observation on the mileage? Has there been a drop in it due to the wider tyres?

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

My new Citroen C3 needs tyres. Stocks are Ceats - 195/65/15. Thinking of getting 215/60/15. Any suggestions?

IMO the current size is ideal. 215/60 is going to look odd and will have a sizeable impact on fuel efficiency. If you want better comfort and performance get a soft rubber tyre like continental UC6 or Yokohama bluearth AE51 or MRF perfinza.

So what is covered in that warranty? Are you certain that this was not there when you first got these tyres?

I have gone with UC6. My first choice was Pirelli, but due to tyre import restrictions, were not available.

I believe all new tyres perform similarly. Things get interesting after some odo readings. I ask myself how my UC 6 different from stock ceat and I have no answer. Ceat was new and so is UC6. Can't really differentiate at early stages of tyre lifecycle.

Is your car the C3 Turbo or the NA C3? If it's the NA version, then stock size is more than sufficient. Get better rubber in the stock size instead. And even for the C3 turbo, 195 section feels enough. I personally think 215 will be overkill.
Edit: UC6 is a good tyre with minimal tyre noise.

I am sure there will be some impact/drop in FE, but I have not noticed any significant drop. It has done 20k since, and has held pretty well given the driveability is as good as it was on day1!

How much did a set of 4 cost you? The Earth1s on my daughter's Figo have crossed 41k kms in 7 years, and are in need of urgent replacement due to age. There were no punctures so far, but only a month back there were 2 on the left front wheel. Overall, i am pretty satisfied with these tyres, when compared to the Michelin XM2s that were earlier on the car. Those were more silent, but prone to sidewall cuts---had to get 2 of those replaced in the initial years.

I paid 15k for a set of 4 Earth1s in July 2016, after exchanging the 4 year old XM2s. How much is the current price, in exchange for a set of 4?

I paid ~17k for a set of 4, this was way back in Dec 2020.
